Soulcailbur VI is part of a longstanding series of fighting games . First released in 1995, Soulcalibur made headlines in the fighting games scene by being one of the first titles to feature guest appearances by popular video game title characters from flagship games in the Bandi Namco brand.

Soulcalibur went into a bit of a dormancy after Soulcalibur V launched in 2012 to mediocre results and a very mixed reception from those who enjoy fighting games. However, it burst back into the fighting game scene with Soulcalibur VI and the title serves as a reboot to its original classic ideals that made the game so popular in the first place. It brings players to the 16th century and retells the story of Soul Edge and Soul Calibur, which are the forces of good and evil in the game that are depicted by sorts of Excalibur-type swords. It does this by taking players through the Soul Chronicle gameplay mode that tells its story through brilliant animations and soundtracks of conversations between the title characters in between the hard-hitting fighting action.

Soulcalibur VI also introduces a second story mode that allows players to create their own characters based on fighting styles and designs within the game. Following this, players will run through the story of stopping an evil genius from taking over the world using the evil sword and will encounter a variety of enemies ranging from characters in the game, characters created by other players around the world in the form of downloadable content, and experience a wide variety of different fight restrictions and sanctions. Because of this, the Libra of the Soul gameplay mode is loosely compared to a roleplaying game in its own right and will have players coming back to increase the abilities and powers of their characters. As players progress throughout the mode, they will earn stronger weapons and have greater levels of customization that they can apply to their creations. It's this element of customization that the title is well-known for in the gaming community and is indeed one of the cornerstones of the game itself.

What sets Soulcalibur apart from other fighting games are the long narratives that take place between the title characters in both gameplay modes. Each discussion has appropriate voice overs and complete dialogues, which breaks itself free from the usual text conversations that take place between characters in both roleplaying and fighting games. This level of depth provided by the voice actors gives the title quite a bit of body and provides a richer experience than what was previously offered by the Soulcalibur series. This level of audio excellence is complimented by its outstanding graphics, too.

Fans of the Soulcalibur series would do well to pick up this title and enjoy what it is has to offer. While it takes things back to the beginning, it does so in a way that provides a far livelier and more entertaining experience thanks to the advances in modern technology. It's sure to please those who enjoy the fighting genre as well.
