The story of "The Dwarves" is good. It rushes in places, and some characters are left undeveloped, but you can't really ask for much more thanThe story of "The Dwarves" is good. It is not really an RPG, though I think it would have been better if they embraced RPG more and RTS less. The voice acting is solid. The sound effects in general are satisfying. The score is good.Gameplay is meh. Pathfinding bugs get annoying, general Quality of Life observances are lacking, and having to restart a mission because your character inexplicably flew off a cliff is annoying. There are some strong bones here, but the delivery was too flawed to be called a 'good' game. There was a lot of promise though, and I look forward to more from the devs.

I like the map and how you are free to choose a path, and stuff that happens in between gives you actually some choices and they will have effect on events later. The combat is an intresting mix and the fights can be hard and unforgiving. Also i am not a big fan of real live action, that you have to pause every couple of seconds. Either make it that you can handle it live with sometimes a break or make a turnbased game. Not what they are using here. The biggest drawback of the game are the long loading times, and if they where sometimes, it wouldnt be a bug deal but there are a lot of them.

It clearly takes a LOT of inspiration from Lord of the Rings. So why do I like it?The characters are a lot of fun. The combat (which was super confusing at first, mostly because it's much more simple than you expect) is serviceable and gets better when you get some more characters and abilities. The overworld is pretty interesting in that it's set out kind of like a game board you have to move across. You can move one "dot" at a time, often choosing between branching paths. Occasionally you'll come across random (they're not actually random) events that you'll have to deal with. Some of these play out by choosing dialogue options to resolve and sometimes you resolve the problem with combat. Some of them can be resolved with either, depending on your choices.Despite all its flaws I really enjoyed the game and its story. It left it open to a second game that can go a number of directions and I really hope they decide to make it one day.

The Dwarves would like to achieve a better rating, but their own companions in the fight undercut this effort. Simple technical state is not always a recipe for a success.

It is no big production, but it is quite good for a kickstarter game from a small company. Also, for those who are power metal fans, the soundtrack by Blind Guardian is amazing. There are times when it looks like there’s a much better game trying to claw its way free from the technical and design issues that plague it, but they’re only fleeting glances at what could have been before it gets overwhelmed by the muck dragging it down. Fans of the books it’s based on might get some worth out of The Dwarves, but when compared to pretty much any other half-decent RPG on the market, it comes up short in almost every possible way.

The Dwarves feels too much like a project still in development to receive a higher grade. The best thing about it, however, is the franchise's future potential.

It's a bit glitchie during the loading screens; it may error out at times or take a while to load, but I'm sure that could get corrected with some hotfixes. I do hope they add more content as well, side quests, replay battles without having to run through the story, etc.

Offers a unique and enjoyable experience that straddles the lines between RPG, movie, and novel, and delivers a satisfying fantasy adventure. However, the many technical glitches can be frustrating, and the dull combat and noticeable lack of meaty RPG gameplay elements will turn off players looking for a richer gameplay-focused experience.

The Dwarves is a game that came out of a Kickstarter campaign, and it's absolutely the type of success you'd hope for as a gamer. It's a fun game with a really good story, thanks to a solid adaptation of good source material. It looks good and it sounds good, and my few frustrations with menu controls and a couple of battles I had a hard time surviving really don't diminish my appreciation for the game as a whole.

King Arts Games has done a great job taking Markus Heitz’s ‘The Dwarves’ into the videogame form, providing us with a very original title that will give us a lot of game hours, where its charismatic characters stand out. If you want something different, maybe this mixture of strategy and action in real time is what you are looking for, despite of its questionable performance on Xbox One.

Even though the setting is interesting and the overall atmosphere is beautiful some serious gameplay issues along with the terrible A.I. and the poor graphics make this game a missed opportunity.

The only really good part about The Dwarves is the characters and the world they live in. It’s an interesting tale, and one I’d gladly sit through if the combat was improved, load times were decreased, or any of the RPG elements had more depth.

Ultimately it gets down to personal preference.Saying that, let's get down to business with a list of pro's n con's about this gem of a game:PROS:+The narration and dialogues gives of a soothing and cosy atmosphere to the game. Fully voiced which is always great! I was hooked from the start and did not loose interest nor clicked away any conversations.+The story and character development; As I advanced through this epic journey, I got more invested in the characters and their background stories. While being your standard RPG a la lord of the rings, the tale unfolded in an intriguing way, inviting some chuckle here and there, lots of smiles and a few sad events. The cut-scenes enhanced the experience even further.+Exploration of the world is approached via a worldmap with a vivid narration of events in which you sometimes had to make choices thus, to a certain extent, could influence the outcome.+ Game mechanics; compared to other RPG you get to fight hordes upon hordes of orcs while using lots of AoE skills that could also cause friendly fire. Therefore, placing your characters and using the environment is a must to avoid being overrun by the mobs. Smash the orcs, knock em out then finish them or just push em off the cliff! Whatever you decide there is a great sense of satisfaction!CONS:- Oh camera, where art thou?? Why not let us freely scroll over the battlefield to plan even better strategies?!-The ending felt just a tad too rushed.- Some health potion bugs which in some situations were rather frustrating.

For $40, I feel like THQ Nordic might have an idea on their hands. If there was to be an integrated loot system, updates to the movement system, and general bug tweaks, I would be open to playing the game more. I love single player games and was really excited to try this out. However, I feel a little underwhelmed. It’s fun, and it has opportunity, but right now I feel like I was left with a half empty plate.

THQ Nordic and King Art Games bring us The Dwarves, an RPG adaptation of Markus Hetiz’s novels that, despite good ideas, doesn’t live up to its source material albeit its entertaining story.

I loved the diversity of characters and their abilities in battle. There are some truly interesting mechanics at play here. The bottom line though, is that it is rarely fun to engage in combat. I got frustrated at the useless AI, and starting over battles constantly was a real drag. The world of The Dwarves is interesting, and maybe with some patches down the road this can become a game I can get behind, as it stands now though, this is a tough sell.

Underwhelming RPG elements and character customisation, poor loading times and a map screen that now seems to have a mind of its own do hold back the game from being something great. Those with a penchant for a tightly woven narrative and tactical thinking will enjoy the experience, but it is difficult to overlook some of the more glaringly obvious problems.

Having devoted lots of hours into this game I can say that The Dwarves provides a lot of content, but not a lot of meaningful content. It is definitely a game that will drain hours upon hours of your life away, but I felt that the more I played it, the less I actually wanted to.

Difficult yet for me to evaluate the game, I hope that they will add the modification of the controls of the keys in a patch eventually, for now it is worth no more than 7/10, rather nice graphic, rather well optimized and A touch of humor on the charism of the dwarf class.

The Dwarves boasts a strong story that's taken from a bestselling novel, and it generally honors that lineage with a cast of likable and ably voiced characters. It's a good foundation, but unfortunately it's not strong enough to make up for the deficiencies of its gameplay, which include unfulfilling RPG elements and a stubborn camera.

Based on the successful fantasy-bestseller, written by author Markus Heitz, the homonymous videogame takes place in an action-rpg, focused on massive battles with orcs. The story is well told, but shortened in comparison to the book. The battles are fun to play for a while, but they’re lacking on AI- and pathfinding-issues. Moving the camera can be tricky too. The rpg-elements are minimalistic, there are no collectible weapons or gear and characters can be equipped with only five skills max. Your main character, the young dwarven-smith Tungdil will be accompanied with up to 14 companions, most of them well transformed from the book into the game. You’ll spend a lot of time in listening to many dialogues and to a well performing narrator, so in the end The Dwarves feels more like an interactive audio-book than an rpg.
