You don't have much content, don't have much story, don't have many abilities, don't have anything that makes it good. You just a click and dodge, and sometimes b click. When compared to HADES, this is no roguelite because it doesn't even matter what of these **** perks you get. You grind till you match the linearly scaling damage requirements and you don't ever care about perks. Game is also very short and the characters are imbalanced and most are very boring.

Children of Morta is pieced together in such a way that no element feels out of place, and the wonderful roguelite gameplay is backed with a deep and emotional story that kept me engrossed until the very end.

It keeps you hooked, when you think you might be about to get bored the dungeons offer you a new short side quest that sort of -wakes you up- again after just going through enemies. The storytelling by the narrator is great, the visuals are great, and you should definitely pick this game up! You really get your money's worth with the time you can spend playing the game as you can also play another mode after you finish the main story.My only complaints about this game are that it has quite a few sound issues, the main ones I encountered were glitches in the storytelling during cutscenes and when there are a lot of enemies on the scream the creatures' sounds would just keep repeating even when you take them all out and even during loading screens.. it leaves you playing the game with the sound off sometimes. In the final stages of the game it also starts lagging a bit.

You WILL level up everyone at the same, ungodly slow rate, and Heaven forbid you like any one character more than the others.

The game lets you choose between a variety of characters, each with their own specialties, moves, and playstyles. The cool thing is as you level each character up, they have attributes that will also help all of the other characters when you play them. You can also permanently upgrade various stats (for all players) between levels as well with the gold you collect from runs.The story is pretty cool and focuses completely on a family called the Bergsons, each selectable character being a different member of the family. While not a terribly long game, it does have a decent amount of replayability as you continue to try and level up each different character and unlock all of their abilities and attributes as well as their bonuses for all the other characters as well.While I did enjoy this game a lot, I found that it became pretty tedious as I got farther into the game. It became strikingly clear that the characters were largely unbalanced and there was little reason to choose anyone other than those characters with the better playstyle. Obviously this is usually the case with games like this, but usually the characters are closer together in effectiveness so that you can still use them if you like and they are totally viable. In this game however, the way the enemies are in the later levels makes many of the characters a complete chore to use and I found myself dreading spending any time with them.Regardless, I enjoyed my time with this game, even if it was cut a bit short by its shortcomings. I enjoyed the pixelated art style and the narrative storytelling. I just wish the characters were balanced a bit better so I could continue using the characters I liked without feeling like I was severely handicapping myself. In short, if you enjoy games like binding of Isaac or Enter the Gungeon, I think you’ll feel right at home here.

I started playing it with my brother when he came down to visit. We loved it, but there wasn't enough time to finish playing. Since he can only get down once a year, we're going to have to wait to finish it.But if you live with someone who'll play with you, this is a game with both plot and interesting gameplay. We were not expecting to like it as much as we did. It doesn't sound like something we'd like. Hard to pinpoint exactly what made it good. But it's on the game pass so I recommend, if you have someone to play with, you give it a go and see what you think.

I can’t stress just how smartly made Children of Morta is. The narrative flows smoothly in and out of dungeons, the characters have a real life to them, and the gameplay is enthralling and has those addictive qualities that make you just want to keep leveling everyone up. In the 15-plus hours I invested in this adventure, I was thoroughly captivated by everything Dead Mage set out to achieve. The way family comes together for the final conflict is truly impressive.

Children of Morta is a gem of a roguelike that often behaves like an action RPG and with its exquisite art style, simple but fun combat system and enormous variety of customization and character experimentation, it makes for a marvelous game that gets its job done in a very satisfying way. On top of that, it even features a wonderful co-op component.

While at first glance Children of Morta may simply appear to be another typical roguelike RPG hack and slash, it all comes together in a wonderful and charming way, making you forget that you’re generally repeating dungeon runs back to back. While the lack of online co-op was really the only negative I have, the rest of the experience with the Bergson’s was a very memorable and entertaining one throughout.

Since it’s polished in almost every regard with its gameplay and presentation, it’s possible Children of Morta would’ve benefited from a more focused design direction rather than a rogue-lite dungeon-crawling experience. Nevertheless, in a sea of games for the rogue-lite genre, it’s refreshing to see developers do something unique and tell a meaningful story. The emotional heights that the game reaches goes farther than many narrative-focused games. If you’re looking for a story-driven ARPG, then Children of Morta needs to be at the top of your list.

Between the dungeon size, the bite-size story chunks, and the clear objectives, this is a game meant for picking up at a moment’s notice. Ultimately, players torn between this version and a home console one are choosing either function or form. Dedicated Switch gamers, on the other hand, would be fools to pass this one up.

Children of Morta has a very compelling story and the way they use death in the game to help progress the story is refreshing. However, there is so much that you need to unlock in the game to try and balance the difficulty in your favour to even complete the first dungeon. This, in turn, ruins the experience by having to play the same dungeon over and over. It is a shame that the same level of effort that was put into the story line was not put into the gameplay, things becomes repetitive quite quickly.

As with most things, Children of Morta will probably get some substantive updates in the coming months, but it currently pales in comparison to other action roguelikes and won’t hold most gamers’ attention for too long.

Children of Morta would be a perfectly good linear dungeon crawler; it would also be a pretty good roguelike. But it genuinely manages to strike the perfect balance between the two, offering addictive, challenging and varied gameplay, as well as strong narrative, characters and world building. Besides some difficulty issues with the two-player mode and the melee characters, it’s a pretty great game. Plus the spirit you rescue at the end of the first area looks like a giant floating vagina, so what more could you want?

Children of Morta is a resoundingly beautiful game that tells a compelling story of growth, forgiveness and love through a set of deep of satisfying rogue-like mechanics that only kept me invested in the gameplay but the journey of The Bergsons throughout my playtime.
