While combat can seem a bit complicated at first, after playing it for some time you will appreciate the richness and innovativeness of the tactical combat. Nice graphics, great voice acting, nice though not deep story. I encountered no bugs. This is a game I will play to the finish, as also the designers vary and ramp up the baddies as you progress to keep it interesting.

Ruined King doesn't deliver on the Nintendo Switch everything it promises. The story is interesting but it's very difficult to ignore the gameplay and performance issues to actually insist upon seeing the game through to the end. It's worth it to those who want to know more about Runeterra though.

To connect with characters and the world, it helps a lot that many interactions are voiced and the most important ones are animated comics-style, and there are a lot of conversations in the game. The story revolves around a pretty major plot yet it never feels like a stretch - every development felt very organic and built the pace up, with characters' decisions being the key driver here. To make an effective 3-character team, there is a choice out of 6 of them with 2-3 builds for each which makes experimentation and progression a very interesting endeavour. The combat system felt clunky at first, certainly having consoles in mind, but it got very intuitive and engaging very quickly. It is notable that ultimate skills have their own cutscenes and specific animations which certainly give the combat a nice flavour. World exploration is key and it is plentiful - several distinct areas to explored, hidden notes of lore, puzzles that provide great rewards and secrets. Music, sound design and voice acting are superb, greatly helping to immerse yourself in the world and story.I spent around 40 hours on normal difficulty and blazed through the latest levels due to lack of time but there is so much content in the game that I could easily see myself spending 100+ hours otherwise.

With deep strategy elements found both inside and outside of combat, Ruined King: A League of Legends Story makes for an undeniably engaging and challenging adventure. Fans of League of Legends get to see the world of Ruenterra from a new lens and will be hooked by the endearing character moments found within the game’s story. Ruined King may not find the wide appeal that other League properties have managed, and some of the interactions found outside of combat are admittedly cumbersome, but it’s hard to deny the excitement and depth of content found within the turn-based battles of Ruined King.

Ruined King: A League of Legends Story immerses us in the rich lore of League of Legends without the need to play the iconic MOBA on PC. Well-crafted characters and a very attractive audiovisual style can partially cover the shortcomings of a not particularly original JRPG-like gameplay and a story that doesn't dare to deviate too much from the existing lore. Nevertheless, this remains a good dive in Riot Games' saga, but also a good starting point, along with Wild Rift and the TV series Arcane, to introduce newcomers to this rich universe.

It’s a great feeling to finally see all the characters from LoL you know and love being used in a fully-fledged singleplayer game. Ruined King has its shortcomings, but overall, it is a heck of a good time.

Don't get me wrong, the graphics are well done but it takes more than that to make a good game. The UI is pretty bad. This makes every battle frustrating. Even moving through the battle and standard interface is a chore. There are numerous graphics bugs as well. The worst thing by far though, are the characters. apart from one or two, these are the most poorly written and two dimensional characters I've seen in a while. They are stereotyped and cringe worthy. One female character is muscle bound behemoth and you're forced to play with them early on. You have no strong main character, instead you have to play through multiple characters which loses the sense of progression and character building. I'd like a sequel to this game that's made right with an awesome main character or allowing the user to at least customize or create their own.

The gameplay isn't overly complicated, and the story is dreamy enough without being overly stuffy, making it an alluring option even for people allergic to fantasy altogether. Put me down as a successful LoL convert - or at least a willing entrant to its world, if not the main game itself.

It is true that the rhythm and the numerous bugs and crashes are present in the game. But those who give Ruined King the opportunity it deserves will be able to enjoy a very interesting title. We recommend it both for those who do not know the LoL universe, and fans who want to know more about it from a unique perspective.

More than a mere copy of Battle Chasers and more than a guilty pleasure for League of Legends players, Ruined King proves to be an excellent game and its quality is surprising. The deeply addictive combat system and advanced character customisation allows you to explore the different zones offered through a story that is as well written as it is portrayed. You'll want to play it again!

For League of Legend fans this game is a no brainer, finally you will be able to see and move around the world of Runeterra in a way that isn’t possible in LoL. But for those folks who just love a good story, interesting characters and pretty decent combat Ruined King could be that gateway game that gets into the larger world of League of Legends and its many, many offerings that are coming soon.

In the end, a terrific battle system and great art direction just aren’t enough to save Ruined King: A League of Legends Story from its lackluster narrative, clunky UI, and a wide spectrum of bizarre technical issues on Nintendo Switch. Hardcore League of Legends fans and hardcore RPG mechanics enthusiasts will still enjoy the game, but everyone else is better off playing something else this holiday season.

Even if you don’t want anything to do with League, we would highly recommend that you give Ruined King a shot; this is a spectacular JRPG that consistently demonstrates mastery of all the ingredients needed to make a great entry in the genre. The core campaign is just long enough to feel satisfying, there are dizzying amounts of character customization, and the combat system is one of the finest we’ve encountered in a turn-based RPG in a long time. If you’re a fan of RPGs, you’d be doing yourself a great disservice to pass on Ruined King. Even if you’re a newcomer to the genre we’d still absolutely encourage you to give this a punt; it's an excellent effort.

The reason for that is because the game have many bugs, terrible key mapping, and gameplay solutions that just does not work. All of these combined with the alt-tab pausing the game, made me think that The Ruined King is very poor port from console. However, if you are able to get used to these downsides, the game is better and better. Setting in the universe, champions and graphic design is doing the job. The game is simple, there are not so many combinations of items and heroes, but the unique monsters and nice animations will propably make you forget about this. If i was not a fan of lol I'd probably gave it 4 or 5 our of 10, but since the story is nice I gave it a 6.

When all is said and done, Ruined King: A League of Legends Story blends wonderful characters and a fascinating world with some of the finest turn-based gameplay I’ve ever experienced. Despite a few stumbles, this is a package that anyone who loves this genre should check out. While I still have to give it some more thought, this game is most likely going to end up being my game of the year.
