It has a charm despite simple graphics and the animals and main character are warm and characterful.Once finished there is the added feature of discovering collectibles and this is where the game falls down for me. There are 75 gems, 12 helmets and myriad "billboards" which are activated via a sound from your character. The developers felt no shame in making you rotate continually around the map a few times just to reach a couple of these gems and, for me, Fé outstayed it's welcome soon into the end game.

The result is you never have much idea of what the story is, and thus what the point of anything is.Some abilities, like tree climbing, are used to their full potential and enable lots of fun exploration. Others feel like gimmicks.Back tracking starts to feel like a chore very quickly. Especially since there's no in-game map.Despite the outward charm, and a few great moments, Fe feels a bit soulless.

What's most exciting about this game is how it uses these mechanics. Hideo Kojima has commented on the ideas of the "Stick" (to keep people away) and the "Rope" (to bring people together) when talking about the upcoming Death Stranding, and while this game bears no resemblance to a Kojima Production, the gameplay is beautifully built around the idea of the "Rope". By learning languages and interacting with the various wildlife the main mechanics become friendship, communication and cooperation. Playing this with a friend is especially fun, as it's very nature revolves around friendship.

Overall, Fe is a decent little game. While there’s not much to do except solve a puzzle, travel to the next puzzle, solve it, it still has some interesting things going for it. I just really wish the camera and platforming was a bit better, and while I understand what the developers were going for with the minimalist tutorial and explanation in both gameplay and story, I could have used a bit more just to help out in some instances. It’s not a bad game, but it’s not a very memorable one either.

Swedish indie developer Zoink delivers a beautiful and slow-paced platform adventure, that really feels unique. It isn't without flaws, though. The level design is a bit confusing and the control is far from perfect.

With FE, Zoink Games proves that it have the trust of Electronic Arts with a 3D platform with a different and visually stunning artistic design.

Fe is a game with a clear message and most of all a game that knows how to impress with a unique style. A wonderful world with pleasant music is waiting for patient gamers.

It’s plausibly a commentary on the nature of an ecosystem, but the emotional reward doesn’t compensate a player for the amount of busywork.

Players who aren’t willing to relax a bit and let Fe take some control of their experience might have trouble, but most everyone else will find an affecting, unique romp through the woods backed by touching moments and some of the most inventive design to come from a major publisher in ages.

Fortunately after getting my hands on it last week, it did not disappoint. The game is beautiful, the music stirring, and the game mechanics are tight and original. Although very short, I thought everything was really well executed. To me the game kind of felt like if Viva Pinatas and Inside Out had a weird, yet lovable baby.

I bought this because it looked interesting and in the same artistic style of games like journey or Abzu. I found the overall world and mechanics to be really confusing and tedious. The story is too vague to mean anything despite some cool moments, and the open world all looks bland and the same. Despite being a small fox creature the character controls are very loose with poor jumping/climbing mechanics. It's really frustrating that the fox can't climb any walls or pull himself up onto ledges...because the world is made almost entirely out of rocky ledges. You have to always find a tree to climb up and glide places, which is very tedious. I also don't like that progression is mostly tied to collecting miscellaneous stones - again, tedious. The progression relationship between learning new songs and collecting all of the various items is also vague and takes a while to figure out, making it unclear where you can go and where you can't.The art style itself is fairly unique but looks inconsistent in some areas due to foggy/faded backgrounds and strange lighting. I also couldn't figure out a way to fast travel around the world, which is frustrating because the geography is surprisingly large and tedious to get around. This caused me to not finish the game - I stopped about three hours into the supposed five hour length. The cat and mouse gameplay with some of the enemies is also annoying from unpredictable AI. Overall Fe feels like it's imitating better games, or trying too hard to be artistic just for the sake of being artistic - without a clear overall vision. It's visuals are not amazing enough to make up for the annoying controls and meandering game play. There are some fun moments and a few cool ideas but overall bland and tedious.

I don't want Fe to be the red flag that makes Electronic Arts reconsider the great idea of supporting comparable projects, but nothing about Fe is exciting or interesting.

Fe stumbles at times, in part because of its sometimes elusive camera. But it’s memorable and beautiful, worthwhile simply for diving into an alien world and letting it carry you away with its sometimes adorable, sometimes breathtaking creatures.

Thankfully Zoink! have done the 3D platformer genre justice and when it’s all said and done to say I had an enjoyable time with the game would be a massive understatement. Obviously the most important thing about a game like this is the platforming, and thankfully I never suffered with any problems throughout my playthrough here. Everything felt tight and responsive at all times and this made exploring very fun. Speaking about exploring this game is without a doubt at its best when you explore greatly. There are plenty of things for you to find and the world emanates beauty and feels alive at every turn, which is great. Unfortunately though the game is a little on the short side and I definitely wanted more, which is a testament to how much I enjoyed this game. Something that really makes Fe stand out over the other game’s in the genre is the game’s mechanics. Each different mechanic plays a vital part in the process of the game and it adds to the story which is very unique in some ways. As far as the gameplay goes I actually found it to be pretty decent. There are plenty of puzzles for you to get to grips with and I found these puzzles to be very charming and very rewarding once completed. I will say though that I would have definitely liked a bit more of a challenge when playing this game because I never once felt like I was in trouble and this can harm the game’s replayability. The presentation side of the game is absolutely perfect in my opinion. Visually the game looks gorgeous and you can tell that each different area has had a lot of love and effort put into it. The sound design is also amazing and without a doubt it creates a very charming and immersive atmosphere that never lets you go. At the end of the day Fe surprised me a great deal because I didn’t expect it to be this good. Don’t get me wrong I didn’t think it was going to be bad, but I was shocked by how much I enjoyed my time with the game. Everything about the game shines very bright and the love and effort that’s gone into it is apparent from the get go and for that reason it gets a massive recommendation from me.

While there's no denying that we need to be reminded that living in harmony with the natural world gives us strength, Fe's gameplay mechanics and moment-to-moment action are not always rewarding. Its emotional arc lacks the clear structure and coherent ending that some of its cousins -- like Journey or Ori -- have done better. Fe's world is aesthetically pretty but pretty frustrating to navigate, given the imprecision of its platforming and while its use of music --both in gameplay and as an underscore -- is unique and lovely, it isn't quite enough to carry the game for its handful of hours.

The player controls a fox that learns to talk with other species in order to stop the "Silent Ones". Fe recalls impressionism games like Journey or Shadow of the Colossus thanks to its poetic audiovisuals and its story.

Fe is being hold back by a few ancient choices when it comes to game and level design, but certainly is a beautiful Indie game that, as the kids like to put it, will hit you right 'in the feels'.

Fe is a magical, expansive and multi-hued world that creates a sense of marvel. Like a real-life walk in the woods, it is a thing of elemental beauty that demands to be inhaled and admired.

For a game that leans so hard into the feeling of discovery, Fe has shockingly little to say about anything. It has no clear goals or worthwhile revelations. The idea of mystery is more alluring than any of the actual mysteries in this forest. It's certainly pretty, and the platforming and light puzzle-solving are adequate enough. But Fe very obviously aims to evoke a certain emotional response, and it fails to evoke much of anything at all. That's nothing short of disappointing. Sometimes the trees are just trees.

EA Originals’ first game, Fe, is a beautiful and whimsical platformer that takes you on a magical and musical adventure though a colorful Nordic-inspired world.

Through both visual and auditory queues, Zoink Games had their work cut out for them by making a wordless, interactive story play out as a 3D platformer using atmospheric presence to tell a tale. But with very, very few exceptions, they pull this off with near-perfect artistic grace.

Fe is a little, wonderful game in an unforgettable and colorful forest. Unfortunately, when speaking of controls and mechanics, something's not quite right.
