Game Summary

Video games have unfortunate conclusions and Kingdom Hearts III is the final instalment of the Kingdom Hearts series. While long-awaited by its ravenous fans, it is a bit of a depressing moment in the digital world. A story that all started nearly two decades ago is now reaching its final act and it is up to players to guide Sora, lead character, on one final journey through a Disney-inspired land to deal with the terror that is Organization 13.

Kingdom Hearts III and indeed the series as a whole is perhaps one of the most inoffensive video games on the market today. It is glitzy, glamorous, and generally flashy with battle scenes that aren't based on how much bloodshed and gore can be crammed onto a screen. Some of the attacks are quite cool to watch in motion, too. It's certainly a game that would be perceived as appropriate for many children under adequate adult supervision, but adults themselves are likely to find quite a bit of joy in the title as well. This is especially true when capitalizing on the nostalgia factor of their own childhood when the second game was on top of the video gaming world.

The Disney worlds that are prevalent in the game will all come across as familiar to fans of the brand. Like the battles, they're decidedly charming and placated against the hard-fought battles taking place on the screen. Players will need to liberate a total of five completely new worlds from Organization 13 and it's by no means a short endeavour. There are nearly 40 hours in cinematic cutscenes alone, which can make for truly awesome viewing experiences at most times, but also means that there's even more total game time when Sora is making her way towards the finish line. Thanks to advances in modern technology, everything looks far more Disney-like with vibrant and lush colours filling the scenes along with just a hint of retro charm optimized for today's gaming consoles and the demands of today's gamers.

Those who are familiar with the earlier titles on Playstation 2 will find the controller scheme for Playstation players remains entirely in tact. This means there is no learning curve whatsoever for fans of the series despite the long release delay between the second and third instalments of the game.

The conclusion of the game as a whole is a bit of a hotly contested one among the series' most faithful followers. However, it's entirely up to players to make the adventure through the new worlds in order to find just what awaits them on the other side. It is a delightful game that is well-worth an immediate download for the joyous and immersive experience that awaits everyone who chooses to guide Sora to victory.
