The game is really stilysh and full of funny stuff.The combat looks super cool and it's pretty quick, although it is very simple and after some time it gets a bit repetitive. Especially the characters customization is not the best, with a lot of useless skills, or skills that are too similar between them. Jobs are interesting but it's difficult and grindy to unlock them all, so I stuck with the best ones for each character and only leveled those.The plot is very good. Maybe a bit over the top, but is full of twists and it really drags you towards all the game, because you'll want to know why certain things happened, the ending and the resolution of everything is satisfying. The characters are interesting, maybe not too deep but they are ok and a good company.Sub quests are nothing special and not too difficult, mostly you'll need to fetch something or kill some enemy, but what make you want to do them are the silly little stories that they have behind, that are always interesting and fun. The game is full of mini games, and while I didn't play all of them, they're not necessary at all to finish the game, so you can choose to play those that you prefer. Grinding them all to get 100% would be a boring activity but I didn't feel the need to do that.I was a bit disappointed by the two additional areas that open up later in the game, they don't add much to the gameplay and are simple containers for a few shops or other minigames (similar to those in the main area) so I was excited to explore them, but didn't find them very interesting in the end.Overall, I consider this one of the best JRPGs that I played lately, it has some flaws but does well so much more things, the setting is very original for a JRPG so that's some fresh air for fans of the genre. If you like the genre just get this game and you won't be disappointed.

I would never expect a game from this series to go in that direction, but the JRPG turn-based combat is executed very well with all the classic elements of it. It can get a bit repetitive, but challenging bosses make it satisfactory enough to keep you going.Although the real thing that keeps you going is the story. It's the pinnacle of Yakuza games. Ichiban is a very likeable main hero, and the same goes for your companions. The side quests are as goofy as ever.If you are a fan of Yakuza series, this is a must-play for you.

Someone once said that Shenmue crawled so that Yakuza could run. If that’s true, then Like A Dragon is the Usain Bolt of the series. There is so much to love and discover in the game’s 50 to 70-hour main story. Top this off with a new game plus mode, and you have an RPG that I can easily see being played for hundreds of hours.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon is an important entry for a series that's trying to redefine itself without losing what makes it Yakuza. I thoroughly enjoyed the story, even though its pacing was inconsistent. A lot of the enjoyment is due to the new protagonist Ichiban, his memorable companions, and their relationships, which are engaging to explore. Most of the adventure is set in the Yokohama region, which is a joy to interact with, and so are its shops and engaging side stories. While the introduction of RPG mechanics was a daring move, it ultimately paid off, and I prefer the full-on RPG approach over the old brawler gameplay. Most of its RPG systems are simplistic to the point of almost being repetitive, but it lays a solid and fun foundation upon which future titles can build.

As much as I like the series, this entry was a bit rough for me, so I won't hail or hate it's guts. Yakuza: Like a Dragon takes the risky option of including RPG elements in its core, but it does this absolutely brilliantly. It's a new approach that may make those fans of action in previous games a little apprehensive, but it does deserve a chance. It's a fantastic gateway to the series and not to be missed by fans of Japanese RPGs. It maintains the series' spirit, refreshing it with Ichiban Kaguya, heroes who risk becoming the new icon of Yakuza.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon is a must-play for both Yakuza and J-RPG fans. The PS5 version is a step-up from the original release and the story is as gripping as ever. We just wish that the PS5 version had made use of the DualSense's features and the Activity cards.

I originally intended to wait for the PS5 version of Yakuza: Like a Dragon to start my first playthrough. When the PS4 version came out, however, I found I couldn’t wait, and I impulse bought it. I’m glad I did, since it ended up being my favorite game of 2020 and it gave me a story about love, loyalty, and helping those in need during a really trying time. But I’m also glad I played this game again on PS5. Not only is the experience better thanks to the higher resolution, better frame rate, and faster load times, but it’s just a damn good game that I’m happy to play multiple times. There are definitely a few growing pains in the transition from beat-em-up to RPG, but I have no doubt that Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio will address these issues in the next Yakuza game. And with the way Yakuza: Like a Dragon ends, I hope they are already working on a sequel. Because I want more!

So it looked great on ps4 with 1080p 30fps, but looks amazing on ps5 with 1440p and a cool 60fps locked. (Play judgment if you want a newer yakuza game with fresh graphics, top notch game too), my only complaint is that your ps4 save file won’t carry over so you have to start over. Would’ve given it an 9 because of that but am giving it a 10 to counter losers putting a 0 because of the save carry over thing.

I'm glad the developers had the courage to go off the beaten path and try something a bit different. Anyways, here's my assessment after finishing it:++The new turn-based combat engine allows playing as multiple characters and manages to keep a decent pace with action prompts as characters use abilities (basically heat actions). There is a great diversity of abilities and enemies, introducing new ones right up until the end of the game.-While I find that this new combat works really well for the random encounters on the street, it stagnates a bit during the "storm the castle" yakuza office gauntlets where you fight your way up to some boss. Due to limitations of the system you will only ever fight a maximum of 10 enemies and there is very little usage of furniture or other environments to really turn it into a fun chaotic brawl. Similarly, the boss fights are not really that challenging (barring 1-2 very good exceptions) or interesting. It's mostly a pattern of debuffing the boss, buffing your characters and then spamming every character's hardest-hitting moves. This is something the previous fighting-game style combat did better.+There's generally a decent number of new mini-games to play, some of which are very creative and enjoyable. I particularly like the one in the movie theatres, which comes with its own little subplots and dialogue.-The main money-making minigame (that you will have to play because there's no other way to make some real money), is a glorified spreadsheet business-management simulator. It's not very interactive and once you reach the end, there's basically no variety either. Yet you'll still come back because the endgame gear costs ~10 million yen a piece and this game spits out a lousy 3 million, making you pay 5 minutes of your life each time for doing the same thing over and over.+The new character cast is strong and really helps the main storyline become more interesting. Their personal investment in the events and antagonists really help the game stand above previous instalments, where it was mostly the plot dragging Kiryu back to save the Tojo clan again. That said I'm a little worried that the writers will make them star in so many sequels until they too, become very tired and disinterested in what the plot wants from them.+Very good sub-stories with multiple parts and recurring characters. They have cut out most of the "go there and have some angry men start a fight with you" missions and put them into a separate section where they can be largely ignored.-The game is lacking in this kind of side-content for the last 3rd of the playthrough. Even though it unlocks 2 areas to explore, there's not really much to do in them (especially if you've played previous titles) except grind for levels.+Good graphics, effects and soundtrack, consistent with the series.

What a wild ride it is. I didn't want Yakuza: Like a Dragon to end. A part of me wonders if I grinded out battles and business minigames more than was intended, simply because I wasn't ready to say goodbye to Ichiban and friends. Fortunately, the story wraps up nicely and leaves the door open for a possible sequel — even though it wavers a bit near the end. This isn't farewell to Ichiban. The story is extremely engaging, so much so that I felt like the game was actually a little too short because I wanted more. The characters are fantastic and really well-developed.I know there were some concerns from Western gamers about the new combat system, but please, give it a chance. Yes, it's wildly different for a Yakuza game, but it's extremely well-done. The new combat system actually allowed the developers to give combat more depth and detail. It's very reminiscent of a traditional turn-based JRPG, as there are summons, tagging characters in/out, and different character jobs/roles, however; it's full of outrageous humor and fun, which brings it back to feeling like a traditional Yakuza game.I'm beyond excited for the next installment in this series, and while I'll miss Kazuma as the main character, I think Ichiban is a fantastic new character who has so much potential for more games.

Despite the host of new features and ideas, Yakuza: Like a Dragon on Xbox is still quintessentially a Yakuza title. The humour is still here, as are the plot twists on plot twists, and of course the karaoke, which all add up to make it one of the stronger ‘launch’ titles on the Xbox Series X|S. There is a noticeable graphical improvement over previous titles on the Xbox One too; Ijincho is a gorgeous addition to the city roster and returning cities have never looked better.

This new Yakuza is a good Yakuza, there’s no doubt about that. The doubts will arise only when you try to compare it to Persona 5 because Like a Dragon’s new features could be more pronounced - and closer to Persona’s genius.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon is surprisingly one of the best JRPGs that I’ve played since I beat Dragon Quest XI over three years ago. It’s especially impressive coming from Ryu ga Gotoku studios which has never made a turn-based RPG before. However, there are some glaring issues that take away from the overall experience; most notably the lack of a weakness indicator and wonky AoE moves during battles. If only the battle system was perfected, then Like a Dragon would be a top-tier JRPG. Regardless, I would recommend to any RPG fans that Yakuza: Like a Dragon is a must-play title.

Yakuza: Like A Dragon is a fresh update of Sega's crazy gangster simulator. The new combat system is varied and really entertaining. The balance between the seriousness of the story and the humorous elements is excellent, and the new protagonist Ichiban is convincing. But unfortunately, the real "next-gen" elements are absent. Static environments and non-animated mouths should not occur at all in the year 2020.

Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio has topped themselves once again with Yakuza: Like a Dragon! This new take on Yakuza brings a lot of fun, new ideas to the table while remaining its heartfelt self. Turn based combat is somehow a perfect fit for this new direction, the characters are all instantly loveable, and the story is endearingly melodramatic.
