Skyrim Anniversary Edition is yet another opportunity for the fans of the franchise to revisit the adventures of Dovahkiin. For all those who haven’t played Skyrim before, this is the perfect time to do so by taking in all the wonders and beauty of northern Tamriel and experiencing, first hand, one of the biggest giants this medium has to offer.

Skyrim’s 10th anniversary edition is a rich and polished package, offering over hundred hours of top class RPG experience. If you never got the chance to play it back in 7th generation, now is the best time to do it.

What was once the pinnacle of its genre has become a bit of a joke as it releases again and again and again. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition adds very little that can’t be found in the 2016 Special Edition or is already free with Creation Club content. There is enjoyment to be had out of playing the game in the new survival mode and I still adore the base game. However, Skyrim just isn’t as strong when held up to modern standards, and it is the fault of Bethesda that this tired horse is now running a race with so many others that are leagues faster.

Much like a real anniversary, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition is less about embarking on something new and more about happily re-living some wonderful, past moments. It was a great game then, and, even 10 years later, it’s still a great game—made even better by the bundle of Creation Club DLCs thrown into the mix. Skyrim‘s been around for a long time, now, and, whether you like it or not, the Anniversary Edition shows that Skyrim has still got the ability to stick around for at least a little while longer (I’m sure we’ll get TESVI eventually, though!).

The Dragonborn add-on allows you to revisit Solstheim, the island from 2003's Bloodmoon expansion to Morrowind. While it's still a Skyrim location, It brings a little taste of Morrowind to the frozen North. Numerous Creation Club mods bring in quests, creatures, and items that link back to Morrowind and Oblivion, so there's a lot to explore here. Not to mention the seemingly endless number of mods available online that alter and enhance the game in many ways. From realistic AI conversations that make the townsfolk talk to one another instead of throwing lines of exposition at you as you pass to texture overhauls that dramatically improve the game's look (as long as you have the engine to run them). Which brings me to my biggest complaint about the Skyrim Anniversary Edition - tech.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Anniversary Edition is one of those things that is simultaneously great and yet seems unnecessary. We can all agree Skyrim is a phenomenal game as it’s cited as a personal favorite of the past decade by a few members of our staff. The thing is with this update is nothing about it seems essential. Survival mode is a great challenge for people who enjoy that type of game. Fishing is boring, but ultimately inconsequential if ignored. The Creation Club content is a robust offering, but the questions is does the player feel Skyrim needs more houses, pets, equipment and quests? Anniversary Edition is currently the latest and greatest version of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and offers fun content for those still exploring Tamriel, but there isn’t enough to bring anyone back who feels like they’ve finished their time in Skyrim.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Anniversary Edition is a fun add-on for Skyrim fans. Including plenty of Creation Club content and some new quests will be enough for most players to be happy. Depending on how if you’ve played the game before, new official DLC is a big reason to upgrade too. Survival Mode is a bit of a misfire but other than that, this is an appealing package even if it doesn’t quite set the world on fire with essential content.

Work has gone in to the Anniversary Edition to ensure it fits within Skyrim and the lore surrounding it as a whole; so much so, that if this is your first-time playing Skyrim, you won’t recognise what is base game and what is from the Creation Club content.

Skyrim: Anniversary Edition is full of lackluster additions to a fantastic game. Some new areas are blocked off, quests feel like busy work, and the new items aren’t all that useful. The best parts are already in a free update, so stick with that.

Unless you never touched The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim when it was released, or you're a die-hard fan of the license who's in the throes of nostalgia, this special anniversary edition is far from essential. It obviously includes all the elements that made the success of this title while adding some new elements. The adventure is still as epic as ever and it's a real treat to walk the length and breadth of Bordeciel. However, all this is not enough to erase the feeling of playing the same game as 10 years ago. For this price, we would have expected a little more...

I can not emphasize this enough it is still riddled with bugs ! Horrible progression issues , save data corruption, save data wipes , story progression bugs , horrible horrible speeds in loading , honestly when Skyrim first came out it was a decent game that I thought the bugs will be fixed no but as time went on all I saw was a pretty picture with horrible mechanics , horrible game destroying bugs to the point on numerous attempts I had to start over .. shame on Bethesda for continuing to release this game. And still to this day Skyrim has the same very issues that plagued this game since it’s initial release in 2011!!!!!! and remain unresolved Shame on you Bethesda , and even bigger shame on you Microsoft

The crashing started literally less than 5 minutes after making my character. I was running through Helgen in the very beginning and it crashed while I quicksaved. I would think it would be difficult to screw up a 10 year old game's 3rd rerelease. I would have thought Bethesda might give a sh*t about this problem more seeing as it's Skyrim but it's Bethesda so yeah. I waited to make this review to see if it would be fixed timely but all I see online is black screens and crashes. Can't even go back to the PC version because they broke my mods. RIP

Tbh, I really enjoy this game because the frame rate is realistic and so does the graphics. If you wish to spend another lifetime on Skyrim, this is the best way to do it. The Anniversary Edition brings more than 500 new items, quests and mods in the never-ending Bethesda's RPG.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition continues to be exactly what makes Skyrim popular: a massive world to explore with tons of different ways to develop your Dragonborne. Outside of that, mods make an appearance and add a bit to the formula in their own way. Otherwise, this Skyrim is exactly as you remember, except it loads a bit faster and plays a lot smoother.

The technical issues do detract from the experience somewhat, especially when considering that many of the bugs are more than a decade old at this point, but they are not enough to keep Skyrim: Anniversary Edition from being the definitive way to experience the classic title.

It’s never too late to explore Skyrim for the first or the 100th time, and this version gives us yet another reason to go back to one of the best games ever made.

(I've only downloaded the ones you get with the anniversary edition by default and still ran into this issue).Playstation 5 positives:The only change you will notice isn't brought on by Bethesda, but is the sheer speed of the loading which is entirely made possible by the power of the ssd (I Imagine playing on a high end PC gets you the same experience) There are obviously still loading screens but if you're used to the ps3 and ps4's excruciating loading times where you are on your phone/other monitor every couple of minutes, it's a welcome change.
