I cannot recommend getting this version of the game if you already own the 2011 version. Also, the 2011 version has mods that fix a bunch of bugs, Bethesda didn't even fix the glaring issues with Skyrim with this re-release so you should expect to have to download SE version of the community update patch which fixes a lot of the bugs left in the game.Like all Bethesda games, it is just better to wait for the community to fix it than it is to buy it at launch for full price.I got this for free but I still think I paid too much for it.Also creation club is a horrible idea and in practice a horrible practice.

The lack of color for the sake of being "more edgy and realistic" was a poor choice, as Oblivion shows us that more color was definitely a good thing, with many popular mods offering solutions to this issue(indicating there was obviously a demand for a splash of color in the first place). Overall, I would recommend this game only if you have the know-how to mod(but who doesn't? Nexus mods makes it quick and easy).

It is one of the best games ever made, in my opinion.Looking at it the other way, it is nothing more than a beautified version of the original Skyrim. It contains all the same bugs & glitches (unbelievable Bathesda didn't fix any of it) but it also maintains the bugs that can be used in your favor (fortify restoration loop, for one). In some ways I find this infuriating, but there is a silver lining for the Xbox one users - mods are available, and there are a lot of them.One mod is a giant 'patch' that fixes all known bugs that I am aware of. Some clean up annoyances, such as mission critical characters getting killed, thus locking your quest and others are just plain fun. The Sofie mod was classic, and why not make the women hotter and put them in lingerie? A nice change of plays from the old grey land of Tamriel.

But in the case of Skyrim, I can't bring myself to take off any points for any flaws in the game. I first played it in 2012 on the Xbox 360, with the expansions, and it absorbed all of my free time for several months. Easily 150 hours into it. Then I bought the PC Legendary edition and did the same thing again in 2014 (and another 100 hours)! You'd think I would have had enough by now, and I thought I had enjoyed this game as much as I needed to. Yet, I found myself buying Skyrim for Xbox One, despite getting the Special Edition upgrade for free in my Steam account. (I'm a sucker for console games). Played it all the way through again, with all expacs, and loved every minute of it. I can only hope Bethesda puts as much TLC into TES 6.No, I'm not a fanboy, I'm a fanman.

Sure, it’s still awesome in scope and there’s a ton of content in the package, but it only offers minimal visual improvements, dated gameplay, and inexplicable legacy bugs. Unless someone defines their RPG experience by sun rays and water effects, this reissue just doesn’t represent a notable improvement over the original. Still, for those who aren’t yet Dragonborn, this is the best way to become so.

If you've never set foot in the world of Skyrim then now's the time to get your feet wet. Still one of the best RPGs to date and that's not just nostalgia talking.

Fundamentally, stepping back into Skyrim is like revisiting one of your favorite places as a child. Everything is like you remembered it, except it's been redecorated and modernized.

Skyrim is still a great place to get lost in and the visual upgrade is welcome. It perhaps doesn’t go as far as it should and it’s a shame no other aspect of the game got looked at but it’s still well worth your time.

Even with some technical enhancements, Skyrim looks and feels a bit old today. The best thing about this console remaster is still the modding feature, now authorized (in a limited way) on PS4 and Xbox One.

A valid remaster job, with good visual improvements and tons of new contents due to the added mods support. Owners of the original game are a bit let down due to the lack of a savegame import feature and high price point, but it's definitely recommended to anyone who never played the game so far.

Xbox One owners will be super pleased –– thanks to Bethesda’s ongoing mod support since the release of Fallout 4, you’ll get access to over 200 mods at the time of writing. PS4 players aren’t so fortunate, and will likely be disappointed by the paltry number choose from –– Sony’s 1GB limit on mod files means that the mods themselves are limited to more cosmetic changes that don’t nearly explore the vast potential that a community driven bank of content provides.

While the Special Edition may one day become the definitive version of this legendary RPG, if you want to play right now and want the best experience, you’re better off getting the 2011 version and modding it.

After five years The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition is still an incredible experience that can cover the amounts of glitches and the animations system. Unless you are a PC player.

This remastered version of Skyrim includes a graphical improvement similar to the PC version with HD mods. The console version includes mods support, but this is not enough for Bethesda to sell this remastered game as a full-price version for the consoles.

So to everyone that's complaining about how the game compares to a heavily modded version of the game, go back to playing that version and stop crying. This remaster is obviously meant to improve the console experience and it succeeds. This is a massive improvement over the XBOX 360 and PS3 versions of the game.

The PS4 version has seen some slight increases to audio fidelity, resulting in an incredible auditory experience whether you're out exploring the wilderness or speaking to an NPC. For some unknown reason the Xbox One and PC versions are not only unequal in this regard, but their files have been compressed to a point where the quality suffers.
