As a fan of Fairy Tail I really, REALLY wanted to love this game. And my first impressions were good. But after an hour of two of gameplay you start to see odd things. The characters have very few animations and they are repeated over and over. The story is rushed. The combat is okay, but lacks depth.And there are very, very few ingame models for characters, which is SO confusing. Sometimes the game "shows" two characters talking to each other, but the camera just focus on a wall or the floor because they have no ingame models. Other times two characters with ingame models are talking to a whole other group but they don't have models so the camera is just focused on a wall again. Other times the camera doesn't even bother to hide the fact that there are no models and just shows one a couple characters talking to the void when they're supposed to be talking to a third character. And the tournament arc is the worst of all. There are supposed to be 6 teams of 5 characters each apart from the Fairy Tail teams, which would be 30 characters. Only about 5 of them have actual ingame models, and that's because they become party members later. Other characters are just replaced by generic looking bandits or simply ignored.Disappointing. And I haven't even mentioned the very abusive DLC of this game,

I really enjoyed it, and i was afraid it could be a plain game like dark clover.

Fairy Tail is a rushed spinoff that rarely has an ounce of the energy shown in its source material. It’s more ambitious than many other anime games, but the execution is severely lacking. So much so that, if Fairy Tail was just another cookie-cutter arena fighter instead, it probably would have been a better game.

Mediocre graphics is a big letdown of Fairy Tail (a common flaw of many Japanese video games based on anime/manga), but it plays much better than you might assume by looking at screenshots and watching trailers.

Gust’s Fairy Tail game is one of those adaptations where it feels like the developer really understood what people love about the series.

While coming in at the end of the 11th story arc of the show might feel like an odd starting point, the game does a good job with a quick introduction of the characters. While it may leave some questions if you are unfamiliar with the series, it still gives enough information for newcomers to enjoy; Fairy Tale enthusiasts will certainly have no trouble knowing what is going on. Fairy Tale is certainly a solid game on the Nintendo Switch.

I have no clue why this game took so long to be developed. Gameplay is simple you run around a small map doing story missions and repetitive side missions with get boring and annoying like grey taken his shirt off. Combat is turn base grid style. Not like fire emblem but more like South Park. You combat menu constant of attack, item, magic, and defend. Escape is optional, and you got a ability called awakening which mainly use to boots ur attack damaged, but if you save it up it could save ur life in the heat of battle on boss fights. All magic attack are really too powerful and ur standard does nothing. One of my complaints is guest character well used most powerful attack to end a fight quick and you just stand there watching the same animation over and over again. You also got a meter that fills up to do a team attack. If you want a fun jrpg go for it, but this game really for the fans of fairy tale.

It’s a shame that more time and money wasn’t spent on Fairy Tail, because, in the end, I really enjoyed large chunks of the game. Once I started playing, I could play for hours and be entertained. The guild building is really fun, as is the combat. This could have been a great game, but the developers leaned too hard on the license and not enough on fleshing out the elements of the game. If you’re a fan of the franchise, you should definitely give it a shot. If you are an anime fan and like turn-based combat, this might be a good game to put on your wishlist for later. Otherwise, you can safely give Fairy Tail a pass.

With a game already sorely lacking any difficulty, these could just as well have been added in the base game. You'd need to buy the deluxe edition, 3 of these costume packs, and the season pass.Depending on region, for US, that would mean 74,99+(3*39,99)+59,99= 254,95 (!)EU regions the deluxe goes for 84,99 euros or higher.All this for a few dozen hours tops singleplayer experience. If Koei/Gust wanna bank, Koei/Gust gonna bank.The game itself, the main characters themselves look quite good imo, the combat also looks quite good. These are the things that were made good and flashy enough to haul in the cash of the fanbase. Everything else though basically screams low effort. Bad animations everywhere, cutscenes containing characters nowhere to be seen. Walking animations look horrid. Laughably so btw.It is, like previous Gust/Koei work, painfully easy. Hard mode? Nothing hard about it. Zero challenge. You would need to sabotage yourself to make it so.Multiple copy paste npc's all in the same area. Oftentimes walking right next to each other like one-egged twins. EVERYWHERE. Low budget is not an excuse here. This is just lazy design. Which can also be seen in the environments, which consist of the same looking, smallish, linear forest areas. No real diversity to be found. Quests outside of main especially, are often badly written, with many plotholes and often bad looking cutscenes. And they usually consist of simple fetch quests, or kill x amount quests. Everything, outside of the main characters which they made sure to look good, just looks like it was made with zero effort, blended together so it could be shipped out as fast as possible, but looking good enough to feast on the wallets of unknowing fans. It is really quite noticeable for anyone with a decent enough understanding of dirty business and sales.Gust/Koei always has used fanservice as a main selling point for their games. Hence why they usually add dlc with the better costumes and such later on to try and wring out even more money. You might even say this for difficulty: why add in higher difficulties as paid dlc when the game's already too easy to begin with (just like they have done with all their other games)? Makes you wonder they make things too easy on purpose. Cause for sure, Gust/Koei are notorious for cutting off content and releasing it for way too high prices not much later after release. They live off this extra income and they count on it.But, even more outrageous is, even though Gust/Koei use fanservice as one of their main selling points to established fanbases, post release there was a patch brought out, that removed scenes from the vanilla game at release. POST RELEASE. On purpose, they waited till sales were made, then at point of no return for many customers who chose to back their product, released this patch and change the whole thing that is one of the main selling points of their games, betraying the goodwill of their loyal customers.There is no excuse. Koei/Gust, whilest capable of good work, have chosen the easy path once again to prey on the wallets and faith of their loyal customers. Furthermore, they take advantage of established hardcore fanbases of beloved series, knowing they do not need to put in much effort to make the sales. Plus, cut off content the vanilla game could've seriously used, on purpose, to wring out even more money. And they know exactly what they cut off. The good difficulties, the fanservice. And then somehow, betray people who buy based on that selling point, even further by then CENSORING the overall thing post-launch. And not just Playstation, every system. Only PC users will be able to use mods to remove this pile of blasphemy out of their excistence later on. Good they have that. Poor console folk however, will not have such luxuries.There are no excuses for such behaviour. It wasn't a great game to begin with, a good concept, held back by lazy execution, with preying on goodwill and wallets of a pre excisting fanbase in mind.They know exactly what they are doing, and always they can walk away with it. They should be called out on this so they change their ways and create what they ARE capable of, a whole experience top to bottom the fans deserve to get. A game made out of love for the medium, not out of love for money and shady politics.

Fairy Tail is over-the-top, comical and captivating – and it’s one of the most enjoyable JRPGs I’ve sank my teeth into in some time.

Behind the game's accurate depiction of the Fairy Tail world, I am not quite sure if this game adaptation offers much to anyone besides diehard fans. If a player is already not into the anime or manga, the game doesn't do a great job introducing the Fairy Tail world, and the systems in play aren't especially interesting on their own as an RPG. Fans will get a kick out of the Fairy Tail game, but it's hard to recommend otherwise.

I really enjoyed it. Only problem it was quite easy even on hard. The Story got from what i think most of the aspect of fairy tail right with its epicness and also the arcs they decided to use in the game. They even put in some funny Filler episodes in form of requests or character storys what i really liked. It made it fun to do side content.Sometimes i wished they would have made a few more 3D Models for characters but they got all of the most important ones and lots of costumes too. I also really liked the guild ranking and upgrading aspects of the game.All in all a really good Game that in my opinion gets way less attention then it should. The Game should be playable without ever watching Fairy Tail but i strongly recommend to atleast watch the first 100 episoded to really get the characters and what happend before the game.

In town the same 4 townspeople are seen sometime 4 and 5 times in same view. Combat is okay but repetitive. Not alot of strategy involved. I really wanted to like this game as I'm a huge fan of the anime but this game left a disappointing taste in my mouth. Feels almost like it was invented to be a mobile game. Wont be surprised to see it pop up in the mobile space.

At the end of the day, Fairy Tail is not a great RPG. Shortcomings in storytelling, pacing, difficulty, and performance all add up to make for a less than stellar experience which consistently seems to waste its potential. The well-made combat system and the adherence to the tone and content of the source material give occasional glimpses of the much greater RPG that Fairy Tail could be, but alas, it’s never really given the chance to spread its wings. We wouldn’t recommend you pick this one up, especially given the wealth of excellent RPGs available on the eShop right now, but we say that with the caveat that fans of the franchise will get a lot more out of this game than newcomers.

It has mechanics and systems that make it more enjoyable and just a good game choice overall that has it flow better, and should put some rpgs and turn based games to shame, but with the limits they had they couldn’t add everything they wanted and have it look great, they had to do the best they could with what they had.

First off, a lot of characters doesn't even have character models... They have dialogue pictures but you won't ever see them during gameplay... The gameplay itself is boring and there isn't even any challenge ... You have to willfully sabotage your play in order for you to lose in any battle... The entire game had potential but it seems that koei rushed production and we have a half-assed game as a result...

A lot of anime games are full of personality but lack refinement and polish. Fairy Tail undermines those expectations by being well made whilst still capturing what made the original manga so special. Newcomers may find the limited retelling of the plot hard to follow but franchise veterans should have a blast.

This game proved that its a decent RPG and not just a game based on the anime, although it could've been more if not for the limited areas and the repetitive missions.

While fans of the series will certainly enjoy having all their heroes back in a colourful game faithful to the original material, the others will probably be harder to convince. Except for the story and the anime side of the title, the production is rather unremarkable with regrettable inconsistencies. The turn-based combats are quite repetitive, but are fortunately compensated by the regular addition of new gameplay elements. If you're a fan of the series, you are likely to be seduced by the enchanting universe of Fairy Tail and its characters. Otherwise, you should probably wait for a more appropriate price for the experience.

As someone who knows Fairy Tail, it was very easy for me to understand and enjoy the game. While it starts at a point that makes sense for the purpose of the game, it does seem like it may alienate some who are hopping in for the first time. Despite this, Fairy Tail’s premise should still allow for newcomers to enjoy the experience, and perhaps lead them toward the source material as well. While Fairy Tail doesn’t do anything new, it does a lot of the common RPG elements well enough, and ties in the source material effectively as well. For fans of the series, this game is a no-brainer, for everyone else, it could be worth a try.

It seems as though the limited budget available for Fairy Tail has been used in the right places, saving on unimportant parts, and spending on the important bits. The gameplay, ranking and battling systems are well thought-out, and presented beautifully. For a game with such a low budget, everything has been implemented very well. It is very clear that the author of the manga, Hiro Mashima, was closely involved in developing this instalment, as it represents the feeling of the anime/manga incredibly accurately.

Fairy Tail is the perfect adaptation to video game of the famous series of Hiro Mashima. With its strengths and weaknesses, the title is still one of Gust's most ambitious productions to date and a game that every fan of Natsu and company will enjoy.

Fairy Tail is a very similar game to the Atelier series, only one borrowing characters and story direct from another source material. The story here, based on two separate narrative arcs, works well with how it's laid out and is laid out in a way that doesn't stop newcomers to the franchise. Other aspects, however, are mixed. The turn-based combat is far more tactical than the average JRPG, offering an interesting grid-based system that helps to keep it engaging. There's a decent amount of character interaction and humour to be found within but the massive, overhanging issue is that the quests and the game in general demand far too much busywork of you in terms of building your guild, character relations, character and guild ranks and more than I care to remember. Fairy Tail has somehow managed to keep my interest but I can't deny it has too much grinding that gets boring.
