There are enemies that can drop on your head and there seems to be literally zero sign that it's going to happen. I don't find this to be a satisfying 'challenge'. The text sometimes has a tendency to auto advance with very little apparent reason, posing major problems for slower readers. The menu has a very strange arrangement, which can make it confusing to find the item you want to inspect. why aren't the cooking ingredients in the cooking tab for example? why isn't the backpack just on the same tab as quest items? why is the quest screen and the map screen, inbetween the quest items and the backpack? bizarre and nonsensical.The pacing also seems really slow so far. despite that, the pace at which I'm collecting quest items seems to suggest the game is really short.Other issues... The stuttering. I'm playing on an R7 with a rtx 2080 and 32gb ram. My system should not be struggling with this game.when I see electrical cables sparking, I tend to avoid them, yet the game wants you to interact with then, connecting and disconnecting live wires. to say this is irresponsible is an understatement. kids will be playing this.

It oozes of charm, actually made me laugh out loud and is super trippy. The controls are so smart and they push them at times almost like a Mario would. There were moments were some missions felt a bit like busy work but they were none the less charming and in hindsight it actually makes sense for the story telling. But the closer of this one is a true firework. Just a shame that cooking ingredients where so rare in the last parts but maybe I just didn’t find them. A true Gem! Man, if this are Chinese games now I’m here for it!

Eastward gets away with a lot because of its blindingly beautiful pixel-graphics. Yet with each hour this especially slow game drags on, it has become increasingly clear that this beauty is solely external. Regardless of the bunches of dialogues and a memorable cast, the game simply can't get its feet off the ground.

Given that the story itself is rather lack-luster, in my opinion, this is a pretty grave miss for the game. I played this game for 5-6 hours, I enjoyed probably 30% of it a lot, but just couldn't be bothered with the endless cut-scenes in the end, in a game that ultimately just didn't engage me enough.

Eastward is an audio-visual masterpiece and a true indie gem in the action adventure genre, and even though it possesses relatively simple gameplay and puzzles, it oozes with great moments, beautiful world and heartwarming story with some of the most distinct and original characters in a while.

雰囲気良し。ビジュアル良し。見せ方よし。ダンジョンのギミックよし。音楽よし。ストーリーよし。けどちょいちょい惜しい。惜しい点を上げていく。・バトル雰囲気良し。ビジュアル良し。見せ方よし。ダンジョンのギミックよし。音楽よし。ストーリーよし。けどちょいちょい惜しい。惜しい点を上げていく。・バトル緊急回避がないので、バトルスタイルとしてはヒットアンドアウェイでちまちま削っていくか、ダメージ覚悟で回復アイテム使いながらゴリ押しで行くか、になりがち。プレイしてない側（連れてる方）にも当たり判定あって、ダメージ判定あるので、運が悪いと被弾×2→ダメージ×2になる。割と敵の動きが早いので、キャラ交代するタイミングもシビアで結局ヒットアンドアウェイする。後半とか囲まれるシチュエーションになると割とオワタ感がある。武器ももうちょい個性欲しかった。爆弾はいい感じ。銃の発砲音気持ちいい。「Blam!!」って感じ。・ストーリーストーリー良しとは書いたが、ちょっと足らない感じ。やろうとしてることはわかるが、説明が足らない感じ。いまいち伝わらない。これに尽きる。自分の頭の中で解釈、憶測するしかない。道中の会話は楽しいんだけどなー。・やりこみ少ないし、しにくい。周回プレイができないので。ストーリーの都合か後戻りできないので取りこぼしとかがあると最初からやる羽目になる。その割にはスキップ機能に乏しい。個人的にはあまり必要ではなかったけど。・寄り道ほぼなし。あるのは「大地の子」というRPG調のミニゲーム。これが地味に難しくて面白い。結局ピクスボールはコンプできず。という感じ。基本物語が線路を左から右に行く感じがロードムービーのようで良かった。和訳がほぼ完璧で違和感なく、キャラが喋っているときの効果音もMOTHER2などを想起させてくれて楽しかった。回復アイテムは調理するというのも楽しかった。と、色々書いたけど満足でした！！クリアまでのプレイ時間：28時間

Its not that i hate it, it's just that i'm boring with it.The game has a very strong first impression, the pixelart is beautiful, the Zelda/SNES nostalgia is strong, and the lovely main characters makes you instantly fall in love with the game. But the more you play the more that motivation goes away...Way to heavy (for me) with the JRPG-ish dialog (not skippable) about so many damn things, its like 70% of the game is just sitting on my chair pressing X to read about some mundane quest just to have 30% of actual gameplay or puzzles... Not saying that's inherently bad, just saying it does not hook me, it fail to be interesting to me.Also, i can understand that combat is not the focus of the game, but when there is combat it doesn't feel rewarding or entertainment.So at the end those two things combined make the game boring for me.Also, it's really annoying not being able to return to old towns, the game just ask for that feature.

The collection of characters consists of rpg clichés such as unfunny jesters, gangsters with a soft heart, scientists etc. The dungeon sections are a throwback to old-school Zelda in their simplicity. Eastward does a great job at putting the cutest parts of retro rpg's together.First, Eastward is very much a narrative game. To the point where I was often reminded of Night In The Woods. Players will spend as much, if not more, time talking with different characters as beating monsters in the dungeon sections. This I believe will be the factor that makes or breaks the game in the eyes of many. If you're expecting a Zelda, look elsewhere. If you like walking around town talking with cute characters and performing little tasks while smacking monsters here and there, then you will love Eastward. Personally I love chill and simple games and ended up loving this one aswell.There's a few little drawbacks that I encountered. In my playthrough the game crashed on me about 7 times. A more irritating notion is the fact that the game doesn't list side quests in any way which forces players to talk to all characters all the time to randomly encounter a side quest. If it's a long one, you simply have to remember to finish it once you've met the criterias because there won't be any mention about it on the map or the mission log. Also, once you leave a certain city, you won't be given the option to return and finish the side quests - they are gone forever. I'm a completionist and knowing I missed some is a bummer. As for the map, it only shows the area you are in and you are given no option to go through all of your unlocked maps. This was particularly aggravating when a side quest character named a place where I had to go to. But because I didn't know the names of the places by heart, I had to run around for a good while to find it. All in all, fixing issues like these would have made the game tighter.

Eastward is a post-apocalyptic picaresque as charming as it is pretty, with simple action combat and puzzles that are accessible to everyone.

Eastward delivers so well on the writing and soundtrack front that it’s easy to forgive its otherwise simplistic gameplay. The fully realized world has its charm, but it hardly breaks the mold anywhere else. While it doesn't do anything necessarily offensive, it does demand more when the rest of the game is so well done. It’s clear Pixpil have got the writing chops down, now let’s tighten up some of the stuff around it.

Before I knew it, my initial skepticism and complaints had begun to evaporate. Even as a silent protagonist, John manages to exude so much personality from his non-committal shrugs and sighs, and he and Sam play off each other so well it’s hard not to feel endeared to them. Everything about Eastward just feels immediately magical and nostalgic, and while my gripes with the combat and stretched out dungeon designs never really went away entirely, Sam’s journey is still one I’m glad I went on in the end.

While the combat isn’t anything special and the puzzles wear out their welcome, Eastward’s characters, setting, and sounds craft an unforgettable experience. If you’re looking for something quirky, captivating, and somewhat surreal, you’ve found it.
