Cloudpunk is the kind of game that places importance on narrative over gameplay and one that will feel considerably better on different platforms. It offers a memorable narrative with some great characters to meet along the way, and it’s admirable just how invested one can get in them considering their existence starts and stops (in most cases) with an on-screen character portrait and a voice-over. The city is vast and beautifully designed using voxel art, though players on Switch won’t bask in as much of its visual splendor. However, it’s also a game in which the narrative trumps all, even gameplay, with the only player interaction coming in the form of somewhat superficial vehicle sections and the odd on-foot segment. It’s a relatively short ride and well worth taking, as long as one’s expectations are dialed in correctly from the outset.

If you think delivering packages a la hover car in a dystopian mega city, with your AI dog as a companion, sounds like a good time? You're in luck. The writing in this game is excellent and some of the best I've ever experienced. We love a good anti-capitalist slant. The worldbuiding, environments, dialogue, writing, and voice acting are all of the highest caliber. And it's almost soothing to play. One mission even brought me to tears.I cannot recommend this game enough. Unless you don't like voxel graphics, that is.

There are a few missions within the main story that deviate from this but they don't bring much to the table.After playing this for around an hour you'll feel like everything you are seeing is the same as you park in another identical car park and walk an identical route with very little in the way of interaction.The only side mission I could find in this game was one where you had to find 80 punch cards in increments of 20 then just give them to an android woman outside you apartment to hear a story.One thing that is really going to annoy you in this game is bumping into oncoming flying vehicles because it will happen a lot at least in the first hour. Worst of all the whole game is completed in one day (game time). Just as you are ready to start Day 2 after your first sleep the game ends!Nice idea just way too short and sorely lacking in any real interaction with the world or its inhabitants.

Well I've to say I quite like the game. But be warned the gfx is very different from other platofrms and to what's being advertised in theWell I've to say I quite like the game. But the switch version is more gloomy which I really like. So if you're annoyed with the vibrant cloudy sky in the midtown on PC, you won't see it in the switch version. And yes, the fog is quite near and there're serious framedrops (usually when you enter the new location) and I had a couple of game crashes (two times during 4 hours). Despite all of this I really like the atmosphere and the first-person mode while walking. Also it seems I can't enter the first-person mode in the HOVA like in the PC version. I'd advise to check the real game footage for the switch before you buy otherwise you might be really disappointed.

Cloudpunk started off unique and interesting; you’re new to its world and are exploring it alongside the main character, Rania. Eventually, you’ll realize it’s only a cyberpunk delivery simulator with cringey voice acting and an even worse script. By that point, the game loses any redeemable qualities and becomes a burden to play. Just like the main character, and the mechanics, the game has little to no substance to offer.

This is a game that feels like your playing a low budget movie but it has a certain charm to it. Definitely for the game who like slow pace, low action, story and relaxing with a game. Pick this one up when it goes on sale.

It’s surprisingly touching, and the way the tension slowly ramps up makes for a really interesting experience. Interesting enough to make up for all the ways Cloudpunk is lacking, though? Your mileage on that will obviously vary. For me, it was, if only barely. There’s some engaging stuff going on here, but you need to dig through some pretty iffy stuff to get there.

You'll likely be able to finish Cloudpunk without running into any game-breaking bugs, but the question is whether you'll want to. Fans of the cyberpunk genre may enjoy running and flying about for a while, but you'd be forgiven for abandoning ship before long.

Cloudpunk delivers the look and feel of a cyberpunk city, it just doesn't fill the city with anything of interest. The story is okay and there's some side conversations to keep you amused, but once the novelty of driving around Nivalis wears off, you'll recognise that this is a game made entirely of fetch quests. The city looks gorgeous, it's just a shame it doesn't have more attractions.

Since I have picked up this title and I have found it extremely hard to put down. I have even found myself removing my switch from its comfy home on the dock and taking the adventure with me to work. If you are looking for a mid-tier priced game at $24.99 that has a great atmosphere and offers several hours of gameplay, look no further.

Cloudpunk on Xbox One is something I have loved spending time with, mostly thanks to the beautifully designed future city. It's a big old journey for an indie game, however if you’re not particularly a fan of narrative and story, needing more action in your games, then I don't think this is going to be for you. Even if you are happy to take in a ton of lore, there are still times when it needs some pace injections, and I could have done with more to involve myself after the main focus finishes. But if you want to get lost in a cyber world then you can't go wrong by delivering some packages with Cloudpunk.

The developer/publisher has acknowledged the issue, but haven't provided any recent updates for a patch. A side note, the visuals stutter and tear. Thankfully, PlayStation allowed me to return this lemon. Avoid at all costs until there's a patch for the mission bugs!

While I believe the story could have been delivered more smoothly, there is no faulting the effort gone into voicing all conversations and making sure that the simple gameplay loop remains engaging for many hours. There’s an amateurish, almost cobbled-together feel about Cloudpunk in general, which luckily connects with its aesthetic, coming together in a nice, shiny, pixelated indie pie.

Writing off Cloudpunk as nothing but a visual attraction will be doing it a great disservice. Sure the splendour of the cyberpunk voxels and the glitz of all that billboard electricity is magnetic, but there’s also a great undercurrent of mystique that you will be spending time peeling away at that Cloudpunk becomes much more than eye candy. The unchallenging basicness may be off-putting, and coupled with stymieing technical issues Cloudpunk can be a bit of a mess that you may fail to forgive. Stick with it though and there is a tasty and indulgent piece of cyberpunk intrigue in here that will please those thirsty for something futuristic and adorned with lights in the night sky. Flawed but fascinating, Cloudpunk is short and straightforward but its elegance and its world should be enough to suck you in for as long as it lasts.

In the end, Cloudpunk is no Cyberpunk 2077. That should come as a shock to absolutely no one. As an Indie game, I can forgive Cloudpunk for being smaller, simpler than a AAA blockbuster, and it would be unfair to judge it by the same standard. This Switch version has also undoubtedly lost some of its polish in the port from PC. But there still must be gameplay, and what is attempted must be followed through on. Cloudpunk looks gorgeous, especially in first hour of playtime. The ability to just visit and fly over that huge, neon-soaked city of Nivalis is quite an accomplishment and for some, that will be enough to make it worth playing. It’s just a shame that there couldn’t be more to actually do among those beautiful, sparkling towers above the clouds.

Cloudpunk succeeds in delivering a worthwhile open-world adventure. The story isn’t perfect, but the characters are extremely well-written. The audiovisual design also drives the game forward, presenting a world that’s dark, futuristic, and mysterious. You might struggle with the camera and controls at times, but don’t let that detract from what is an otherwise awesome character-driven game.

The console versions of Cloudpunk then are, at the time of writing, buggy and a little broken in places they shouldn’t be, but if you’re lucky enough to power through without any major issues, you’ll lose hours to the fantastic narrative, terrific central character performances and gorgeous neon-soaked visuals.

Despite some technical issues, Cloudpunk remains a memorable game with an atmosphere that almost makes you forgive the technical issues. You will thoroughly enjoy the story and some questions about human nature will remain with you even after the credits. Sadly, the traffic on the skyways and the moments when the NPCs are affected by amnesia will break the spell and yank you out of the immersion. But there is nothing a patch could not fix, restoring Cloudpunk to a hidden gem worth experiencing by everyone.

While it may have small performance issues and a stripped back graphical style some people may not enjoy, I adored Cloudpunk. I simply could not stop playing it, I was heavily immersed in Rania's story and was taken back by how invested I got in this dank, dark world. I am even thinking about playing it no and hopping back in to mop up the remaining trophies. Right that's it, I'm off to Nivalis.

They have flying cars and they actually deliver your packages on time as a good delivery company should, after all you paid for it right? Anyway, you play the role of "Rania" who is a new employee for the company who is trying to make money as quickly as possible to pay off her maintain of debt, who unwittingly finds herself embroiled in the plot, and a conspiracy, and all the usual things you'd expect from an unusual company shipping things of any nature legal or not. The story here is only intermittently engrossing, and by the time it all wraps up you'll likely be left wondering what it was all about to begin with. The worse the tales told while making the said deliveries pay better, as you're introduced to a selection of citizens with an array of problems, and some of their stories can pan out differently depending on choices you ultimately make. Gameplay as an employee of Cloudpunk you're expected to deliver packages around Nivalis, sometimes maybe with the constraints of a time limit to complete your job at hand. You'll do this by piloting your HOVA which is a flying car we were all promised by the year 2000 that you can customize as well. Keeping an eye on both how much gas you've got left and whether your vehicle needs any repairs is key. It's a simple and straight-forward game which isn't terrible but not overly great either. It had just enough juice to keep Cloudpunk from bottoming out during the roughly ten hours of gameplay on offer on Xbox One. There's several minor technical problems, and a recurring annoyance where you're often given the next location at the end of a conversation. This means you've got to just sit there hovering waiting for them to tell you where to go after their story rather than telling you where to head next and then having a conversation on the way to your next destination. Cloudpunk does offer a great synthetic soundtrack to enjoy while playing so this did help ease the pain when you must wait for your next destination. I feel this one will be a love or hate affair for most players, I did have a bit of guilty pleasure and enjoyment from it and I hope you do the same given its fair price of admission, I'd say it's worth purchasing for your Xbox One library since I've not really played much in the same fashion as what Merge Games has put together for us here in Cloudpunk.

Cloudpunk on Switch is a hugely disappointing port that struggles technically and ultimately fails to deliver the game in a satisfactory manner on Nintendo's hybrid platform. Merge Games have made drastic cuts all over, with a massively reduced draw-distance sucking much of the life out of Nivalis, volumetric effects missing entirely, pixellation rampant and a framerate that still chugs along in the face of all of these concessions. If you've got a PC capable of playing this one we'd highly recommend you play on that platform as this is an adventure that's well worth experiencing in its original form. This particular version, however, should probably be avoided.

From a design perspective, Cloudpunk is fabulous. Stunning soundtrack, a lovely little voxel-art world, but the game itself (and the bugs! So many bugs!) don’t really inspire like the world itself. In truth, it gets incredibly repetitive and rather boring the longer the games goes on, and the narrative isn’t strong enough to get its hooks into you.

Cloudpunk has a great concept, but it never quite lives up to its potential. It has a fantastic atmosphere and world, but there isn't enough substance to back it up. A strong story could have held everything together, but the endless droning dialogue kills any enthusiasm we have for the setting. The technical issues with the game could be fixed in the future, but it's sorely lacking in key areas that aren't as simple to fix. Nivalis is a fun city to visit, but it was easy for the inhabitants to drive us away, and there's no reason the Nintendo Switch version should even be considered the best platform to experience it on.

Like some of the narrative choices, it’s hard to know how to feel about Cloudpunk — and maybe that’s the point. It’s well-written and lovingly constructed, but it’s sometimes hard to appreciate as much as I’d like to thanks to the pacing issues. However, despite the problems, it’s definitely a journey worth taking — just go into it knowing that a little patience in some spots is required.

Don't bother playing this just for the atmosphere, you will be bored pretty fast.

Cloudpunk is obviously a game made with great love and care. It shines through the visuals, the soundtrack, the city, and most especially the characters. Huxley, Camus, and Ben are easily some of the characters in any video game yet released in 2020. The gameplay is not particularly deep but it is solid and enjoyable in its relaxing way. While Cloudpunk does have a few minor faults (mainly the camera), none of them detract away from what is otherwise a wonderful experience. Get your multipass ready, it’s time to go for a ride.

Cloudpunk is a beautiful cyberpunk adventure when it comes to exploring the city and knowing every little story among its neighborhoods and sky roads. It is a shame that some of its gameplay mechanics are not funny or coherent. Ultimately, the game is worth it for the lore, the characters and the story that will motivate us to play until the end.

Cloudpunk is simply the best way to wait for Cyberpunk 2077 with its gorgeous city, its intoxicating atmosphere and a very well-written adventure. A must play this spring.
