Oh yeah and the character creator is a total joke, it was a waste to invest resources in that.

Did they think it was fun to poke a dinosaur 20x until it dies? Or shoot 20 arrows at a charging animal while running from it? Even dinosaurs well below your level will take 5-10 hits and there's really no variety to the action.The mining system is designed so that you are constantly acquiring stuff you don't need to mine for one thing you DO need. Like "metal." One generic metal in the game that you acquire through RNG through mining other rock. But you seem to have a better chance if you use a pick, so you will get hundreds and hundreds of extra flint while looking for metal that I ended up throwing away. Who thought this was a good idea? Why no designated "metal" veins in the world? When flint it onyl useful for a couple crafting recipes why not make it a much rarer pick up?Taming dinosaurs might have been fun but if you tame anything below level 25 it is useless. As a mount it can't even carry you without it's movement speed dropping to a crawl.I played only the single player campaign and my character wakes up on the beach... and that's it. No story, no NPCs to tell you what to do.After building an expensive small house and training some slow mounts, I think I've done everything of interest in this game. And if there is something more interesting to do., the game wasn't good enough to steer me in the right direction. Glad I got it for free on Steam and didn't pay a cent.

This game is not worth $40 the way it is now and should definitely be worked on. After 2 hours of playing this game you are going to wish you played something else.

Even if this were the most balanced game ever, even if it made picking it up and playing a breeze — ARK: Survival Evolved would still be a strong contender for the worst game on the Switch. It looks like garbage and it plays even worse, and no matter how great the intentions behind it or what crazy ambition it shows, there’s no reason why anyone should willingly seek it out and play it.

Set in a Utopian island inhabited by dinosaurs, ARK: Survival Evolved engages the player on a survival gameplay loop that could have been as engaging as it is punitive – if it wasn’t plagued by so many technical issues.

ARK: Survival Evolved is hard to recommend on two fronts. The Switch Version is an ugly technical mess, and if it does run well the game happens to be unwelcoming and an unfun grind to obtain the actual draw cards to the game. As a big Dinosaur fan, both issues disappoint me so much. True it would be awesome to ride Dinosaurs around and taming them, but not on this console. If this warning isn’t enough at the very least check out the mobile version (which looks better and has a better interface) and see if the game is for you. At the end of the day, ARK is playable, parts of it are even fun, but all the game and technical issues drag this behemoth-sized game back down into the tar pits.

Even as an Ark aficionado, it’s difficult not to slump in disappointment as you play the Switch rendition of what can be a fantastic title. The touch screen may allow for better control functionality as far as the other consoles go, but it doesn’t make up for the ugly visuals and general instability. Ark: Survival Evolved is and will remain one of those titles that shines brightest on PC and only there can it gain the appreciation it truly deserves.

The draw distance is low, textures are blurry, and lighting/shadows are pretty bad. It is pretty jarring at first, but I got used to it pretty quickly. The map takes about 3 minutes to load and it sometimes takes a few tries to log-on to the server. Aside from some minor gripes, there is a great time to be had here. Ark is an incredibly-deep open-world crafting survival adventure game with a virtually-endless amount of content and more DLC to come. If you've been waiting for a proper survival game to come to the Switch, don't let the bad reviews dissuade you. You'll likely have a smoother experience on other platforms, but the portability is worth the graphical compromises.

The warning I do have however is that it is an anarchy simulator! some people will be crushed and will not be able to handle it, but for those that can rise to alpha status they will have a blast with the freedom that Ark provides.

Even if you have a good card, be prepared to turn those settings down to medium or low to get playable fps.A lot of the bugs people have mentioned have been fixed since well before EA, I'm not sure what they're going on about. Yeah the game's support is genuinely terrible, but I only had to use it twice, once when I got a dinosaur stuck underneath the terrain (back in early access - and this only happened once) and second when I messed up with tranferring tribe ownership. Couldn't get any help with the first one because I couldn't remember the dino's name and it had been a few days (it was dead, jim), but the second one got resolved speedily.

This game is also all about dinosaurs, as there are over 150 creatures in the game, some are, the developers like to call them ‘creatures’ as it can broaden their view of what to add so it doesn’t give them any boundaries because the creature may not be a dinosaur.The reason this game does not have as big of a title as it should, is because of the amount of bugs. Although the developers add in new content at least once a month, instead of focusing on bugs, they add more creatures which can occasionally add more bugs making the game feel worse than it is. However sometimes the bugs can be fun and experimental, it can sometimes be frustrating as it could possibly waste a lot of time. Although the game has many bugs, it hardly ever crashes, it may lag or freeze for a few seconds, but that is not as bad as it crashing, as the game crashing will reset a lot of time (if you are on a private server).The games visuals and audio will almost make you feel as if you are in the world as they are stunning. The visuals are extremely realistic as the game has multiple biomes, all which are suited by the surroundings, the trees, the plants, the structures (e.g. skeletons, fallen trees), as well as waterfalls. In addition to the visuals, the audio also makes you feel part of it as it shows the way that some creatures would sound, loud or quiet, this is also taken into the fact of depth, the distance that you are from a creature.Before the game was officially released, the developers had released a free game on the side of it, which was called survival of the fittest (only on PC), which the name made sense as it is, the best survive. This game was only made for a short game where the players in it would have a short time to get ‘set up’ and ready to battle others in this player vs player game mode. In this time you could tame creatures, get loot, craft loot. After a certain amount of time the ‘borders’ would close in, to stop people from ‘camping’ or staying in an area. This would manage to get the players closer and closer together, until they could either not fit in the circle, or everyone was dead (if you die you are out).Some people will not like the game as it doesn’t have a very big story line to it, however this can allow you to create your own story line for it. To sum the game up, you appear on a mysterious island where in your left forearm there is something called and implant, this leads people to think that the survivor is a test subject. As the game goes on there are bosses to defeat which can unlock you later maps.To conclude my review, I will give this game a 8/10 as the game is almost perfect for you if you like dinosaurs, but the game has too many bugs which can ruin the game as it does not flow as well as it could.

Like so many survival/crafting games, from Minecraft to Subnautica, ARK presupposes a player with a lot of time to dedicate to the experience, a high tolerance for repetition, and a fondness for chaos and the unexpected. With its sci-fi inflected single player campaign, ARK at least offers a solo player the chance to get the gist of the game without the threat of anti-social humans ruining whatever progress has been made. For the past two years, ARK has been helping to shape the genre and now that it's finished, it feels like the genre is due for the next stage of evolution.

It'll delight you, it'll make you despair, but ultimately Ark will leave you with a real sense of satisfaction.

Amazing things are possible in the ARK — the gun-wielding soldier set high atop the most badass predator of all time comes to mind — but the experience is clouded by the best ones being locked behind excessive grinding, boring farming and the need for a large group. System commands and customizable settings can ease some of the pain, but the base concept remains a chore. A messy UI and the lack of a tutorial leave you alone in the dark, forced to spend hours researching on your own in order to figure out what's what. But there's no denying that if you're willing to put in the time, you will be rewarded with some incredible gameplay moments, especially if your friends join you on the ARK.

ARK is an ambitious project that, at the moment, lacks in optimisation: bugs, glitches and crashes happen too often and affect the gamer experience. The potential is enormous, but the devs should concentrate their work to solve all the issues and to fix what is already done, instead to produce new contents. Beware: the PvP servers are full of awful people, that's why you should buy the game if you are oriented to a PvE experience only.

When I’m having a good time in ARK, I’m having a really good time. The problem is that those moments are usually one part to every nine parts menial grinding and crafting - especially at the later tech tiers. Having to repeat so much work after failing an attempt at a boss feels far too punishing, and some really dumb dinosaurs can take a lot of the challenge and sense of danger out of the many primal locations. Even with all of those quirks, however, I’m still hungry to play more after the 60 hours I’ve spent so far.

Ark: Survival Evolved is a game full of rough edges. It's also a game full of some amazing moments over my total playtime. It's the kind of experience that has a lot of boredom and tedium, and a great deal of looking the other way in the face of bugs, but also some clear water cooler moments. There's something very cool buried in here, though I can't tell if that's because of some developer decisions or in spite of them.

After a long time, Ark Survival Evolved arrives as one of the best survival games. Its a pity that developers have not fixed the performance problems, because it affects the experience quite a bit, but if you like dinosaurs and you don't care about performance, you will love it.

Ark’s ambition pulls it in the right direction with more force than its clunkiness tugs it the other way. It’s always more enjoyable to spend time with a game that tries something new and exciting, stumbling along the way, than a game that tries to tick focus group-inspired boxes. If that game also happens to simulate an entire prehistoric ecosystem, and produces bewildering emergent scenarios like clockwork, all the better.

Love how Wild Card is consistently adding updates to the game making it feel fresh after every update. This game takes #1 for me of all time. I Have been going hard for 2 months, and i dont see any end in sight. Nothing beats exploring the world for rare cool drops, taming and breeding animals, building a land and water base, and a farm and defenses. No game compares to this.Im sure once the full version comes out and all the wrinkles have been ironed out, I will be giving this game a solid 10 out of 10! No hago mas que pensar en salir del trabajo para ir a ver a mi Raptor, explorar el bello mundo de Ark, contactar con otras tribus amistosas, aplastar a todo aquel que me ataque a mi, a mi tribu o a mis animales, y un sin fin de historias mas que crearan los propios jugadores porque en Ark la historia la creas tu y la gente que puebla cada servidor al mas puro estilo rolero. Infinitamente recomendable, y para ser un early acces tiene mas contenido y es mas divertido que la inmensa mayoria del catalogo actual de juegos, eso si Ark nunca te lleva de la mano, exige paciencia, tiempo, cooperacion con otros jugadores y mirar muchas guias por internet, lo que para algunos lo hara tan especial y para jugadores mas casuales tan odioso. Compradlo sin dudar.
