Ancestors the humankind odyssey is a game that is truly a diamond in the rough in terms of PS games. It has you playing as a group of apes that eventually evolves to become human. The climbing mechanics are almost spot on, very similar to assassins creed. The survival mechanics are also very well developed, it took me awhile to figure out how to eat a coconut instead of just drinking it. The game is mostly about discovery as it does not tell you exactly how to do most things, some of which you need in order to survive. Once you figure out how its systems work, it is a very rewarding if not tedious game. What the game doesn't tell you is that in order to evolve you must complete evolution objectives(Like kill every predator) that advance years in the game once you pass generations. It does a poor job of telling you what your goal is. But the discovery is totally worth it. As you start to get attached to your apes and really care about their fate. If you are okay with some tedium in your games. Then it is surely worth it if you like games like spore.

Based on factual science and history, this is a must for survival lovers that want to learn as they conquer this harsh and unforgiving landscape. Also, hat’s off to this game for offering a unique storyline and gameplay experience, striving away from the open-worlds with maps and guidelines that we are used to playing as gamers.

The game's controls feel pretty clunky, especially the climbing. I feel like they stopped trying with the attack/defense mechanics because they are horrid. If you expected to be able to rain down spears on unsuspecting prey from the trees, Chase down a gazelle into a ambush, have tribal wars or anything of the such, you'll be greatly disappointed.Basically when you get close enough to an animal time will slow down and you have wait for a sound cue and press A. If you have a spear there's a chance you'll kill the animal but it seems pretty low. Bad monkey game.

Once this excitement is over, you begin your journey through time. Your job in Ancestors is for your clan to survive 3 million years! You do this by evolution. You will figure out how to make sticks, bash open coconuts, and everything else that brought us forward towards the technology we have today. The world is massive and beautifully rendered. This is the one true joy I had during my evolutionary path, the exploration. The further you manage to travel from the first destination you unlock new starting areas. As your apes learn, they gain neural energy, used to build the neurons in the skill tree. Once you hit certain points on the tree, you progress time forward. Losing an entire clan is the toughest part of this game, as it causes you to have to start all the way over (from any starting area you've unlocked) Having to re-learn everything can get frustrating at times, as the game gives you no direction whatsoever. This is a deep and intense Survival Simulator, the apes didn't get tutorials how to smash the right two rocks together to make a sharper rock, to beat on a stick to make a spear, so neither do you. Whilst that does at times mean things feel like a grind, leaving you to repeat the same thing quite a few times, in reality life is hard and the game reflects the brutal nature of this.

(this is not an RPG game) cant wait for more content from the creator. his assassins creed 1,2 and 3 where by far my favorite in the series. glad he left there and started his own thing.

The things that make Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey so appealing are the same thing that make it frustrating. Many things stand in the way of your progress, many of those things being mechanics, and rewards come sparingly. At the same time, there is something wholly unique here that, if you can properly sink your teeth into it, you could find yourself completely engulfed in it.

Ancestors The Humankind OdyesseyNot really a game for meIf you’ve been around long enough you know that assassins creed is my favoriteAncestors The Humankind OdyesseyNot really a game for meIf you’ve been around long enough you know that assassins creed is my favorite gaming series of all time, so when I found at the the creator of my favorite series is making a new game, I couldn’t not play it.. so I hopped into ancestors with excitement and intrigue… excited to create a new lineage of primates, go through the struggles, the trials and tribulations of becoming human.. and after about 2 hours of monkeying around, I discovered that this experience just isn’t for me…Ancestors The Humankind Odyssey is a survival game where you start as a male, female, or random character thrown into the jungle… and I actually got assassins creed vibes right from the jump.. with that classic bird opening, even as im climbing trees and swinging from vines.. this felt like the true assassins creed origins… but the longer I stayed in this world the more it furtrated me and the more it pushed me away….I feel a bit tricked… the game opens with a little cutscene, youre given a mission to hide, and then go find yourself as a member of your little money tribe… I was kind of under the impression that this game was going to deliver a story, but it doesn’t… it goes from you have my attention to I have no idea what im supposed to be doing… and that’s kind of the point.. our ancestors didn’t know what theyre supposed to be doing either… they had to figure everything out.. so you set out to discover, find food, tools, landmarks…deal with predators, and use this gain knowledge to pass it onto a new generation, to evolve and advance your species… this is a game of discovery and survival.. and its this survival part that kills the game for me personally… I am not a survival fan at all… I’m not into dealing with injuries.. especially in a game with fairly clunky feeling mechanics… im not into finding water, finding food.. dealing with poison and cold, and sleep systems… not even a little bit… but even if I were.. these systems make you feel handcuffed… you feel restricted to exploration because your meters ae draining, and if you venture too far you risk hysteria which instantly pulls you back and respawns you.. like a glitch in the animous when you go beyond that blue wall the game doesn’t want you to see yet… which in turn kind of take away the mystery of the game, it takes away the feeling of exploration and just turns it into survival and discovery.. . which again just isn’t my kind of thing…if you are into survival type games though, I do feel that ancestors offers a very unique experience.. this isn’t a bad game by any stretch of the imagination… its just one of those kind of games that either its your thing or its not… and if youre not it wont do anything such as having an interesting story to give it a chance to become your thing…I give Ancestors The Humankind Odyesseya 6/10

Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey presents us an intriguing survival paleoanthropological simulation, where we can tangibly live the evolutionary mechanics that brought the early primates to become us. This comes with a fair share of repetitiveness and frustration though, making the experience only advisable to the most patient gamers.

We need to praise the effort to make something new and, in this case, the additions to add some QoL features. Ancestors is still flawed, but it’s also a game we can’t help but recommend to those interested in new experiences.

In summary, you’ll know if Ancestors is up your alley pretty quick. And kudos to you, I genuinely hope you enjoy it, so they can make more games that are this out there. It’s something the industry absolutely needs even if they’re not ready for me yet. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on it and who knows? I may come back later when it’s had time to sit with the general population only to really discover its wonders. But for now, my dear reader, I’d rather forget about my ancestors lost to time and play a game like Ape Out instead.

It really won't. But it is an amazing game, a little buggy yes but that is what updates and patches are for. If you like to be challenged, trying to figure out what you can do with a branch or leaf then this is the game for you. It's challenging but once you get the hang of it and as the community discovers more, it will be beautiful.

Ancestor reaches for the sky but much like your ape the gsme reaches, misses and fall.Graphics: they aren't terrible but in 2019 with a kick ass pc they're pretty bad. Almost last gen at times. Also there is little variety. The ui and menus are be at though. But the cut scenes are a night mare and you can't skip them...and they repeat...a lot. Lots of graphical glitches. Clipping and texture and pop-up issues. Average.Sound: Great but much of its really quiet and they use audio gimmicks for gameplay which aren't obvious. Fighting is really clunky. You do the same thing again and again. And then you die and loose too much. There are other areas outside of the forest but it takes too long and by the game and you don't feel you've achieved much. Otherwise you'll be board after 7 and not 7 good hours. 7 hard awkward annoying hours and then a little fun and it goes no where for the next 20. Overall long enough but what's the point if it's no fun.Value : play a demo and have a blast. Wait for a sale. Watch an hour of twitch eitherway as this game is very niche.I just want to repeat that the devs really screwed all the people who were excited and supportive. I don't think dragging yourself through the game at a comatose pace qualifies as fun. Becomes incredibly dull and repetitive really fast.Even with a full HUD and full tutorial some things remained unclear. Camera angles can be super awkward sometimes.Tutorial is really half-assed, some basic mechanics are not even explained. I'd recommend reading a guide to even have an inkling on what to do after the intro because the game sure as hell doesn't care about giving you any directions.

I and my friends like to play the game to kill any time we have when we bored or need to relax or something.

It’s such a gratifying experience to see our hominids start out with no understanding of the world, to then become fairly self-sustaining creatures thanks to education and discovery. More than anything, Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey shows us what amazing creatures we truly are and how far we’ve come as a species. Understanding our past is the gateway to our future.

Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey is difficult and opaque in many important ways, but its premise is refreshing and its vision compelling enough to keep the player moving forward. Expect lots of false starts and failure at the beginning, but eventually the mechanics become familiar and the achievement of inching the species forward becomes uniquely rewarding.

Ancestors is likely going to be a polarizing game, but it’s something so out of the ordinary than what you’ve come accustomed to in either the survival or third person open world genre, that it’s worth a look.
