All-Star Fruit Racing on Switch remains a good starting-point. Its kart racing is fun and easy to learn, thus confirming its "family-friendly" nature. By the way it retains flaws like a not memorable roster and some technical issues (such as shadows and loading times), and that's a pity that obscures a little its rediscovered nature of portable game.

All-Star Fruit Racing is a colourful vibrant kart racer that brings new ideas to the track but doesn't execute them well enough to become a worthwhile option. Due to tech issues and dead multiplayer, you may find better enjoyment elsewhere.

All-Star Fruit Racing is a decent enough kart racer that offers a few interesting ideas of its own but unfortunately suffers in a few areas whether it’s the awkward control scheme, confusing weapon system or even a general lack of online features. There’s fun to be had from this fruit-inspired title, sure, but perhaps a little ripening could have helped sweeten this uneven racer.

It doesn't fully capitalize on these factors, however, as the game's theme gets repetitive too quickly, the feeling of speed is absent and loading times are way too long, which coupled with a rather mediocre soundtrack, means that this All-Star Fruit Racing does not reach the same threshold as the biggest name in kart racing games.

I would not give for this game any dollar because it looks and behaves rather as demo than as full game based on its sound, graphics and gameplay.Sounds: I barely can recall music and sounds which are worse than we have here and that "Let's go!" voice on the beginning of every race came right from 90s I guess!Colors and fonts are so bad that I need to go closer to TV every time I want to read menu items.Races: I thought such games where trees and bushes behave as walls have been left 10 years ago, but I was wrong! If you see a bunch of bushes on sides of a road don't think that you can just drive near them without a problem, it's definitely not a good idea, you will crash into the place you see space between bushes.Another bad thing is AI. I had the situations when I was driving alone for few minutes and other drivers couldn't overtake me, and I couldn't overtake the first ones. It's very interesting to drive lap to lap without any action (really not).And another really annoying thing is loading time, it's hard to believe but it takes about both Donkey Kong's and Mario Kart's loading times.I wouldn't advice to buy this game to anyone.

There are the standard random pick-ups, such as those found in Mario Kart, which give you a random perk immediately. But there are other pick-ups that are designed around specific fruits allowing the player to slowly build up a stronger version of the associated ability over time, providing enough of the fruits are collected. With the ability to keep up to 4 different perks if the player chooses to hoard the items, they can be used to turn the tide of a losing race rather quickly. The issue with this is, with so many pick-ups being active at the same time, the AI can hit you with so many attacks in succession you go from first to last in the blink of an eye.The game has a few different modes from the start; however, you will be limited on your track options until you’ve completed the career mode, which can only be completed solo. This mode takes place across a number of cups, each consisting of four races of varying lengths. The AI is not overly challenging aside from when you get over-encumbered by the enemy attacks, which happens enough to make it mildly frustrating. The game is by no means bad and is presented in a cute, well designed package, but it’s too difficult for younger racers and too basic for most adult gamers. The races are fairly short, with the cups taking around 30 minutes to complete. Should you leave the game mid-cup, you have to start the entire ordeal over.Once each cup is completed, you will unlock additional characters, customization options, and tracks. I am happy to see the unlockable items are in place and not hidden behind a paywall. The limited number of tracks from the start is a bit of a hindrance if you wish to create your own championship, which would double as the local multiplayer option. There is also an option for a random championship to be generated, if you simply want to jump into the action. Online multiplayer is offered, although during my early access no games could be found.The controls are simple to get accustomed to, with the face buttons strictly being used to change between acquired power ups, the triggers used for the gas and brake/drifting/reverse, and the D-pad offering viewing options, such as first person mode, which is lacking from most kart games and sets this apart from the pack. The only complaint I have with the controls is the reverse, as it often takes two or more seconds to actually register you need to back up due to being stuck on one of the many jagged edges protruding from the environment, which is enough time to lose a significant lead.The roster of avatars is respectable, although there are no pros or cons to the racers or their respective carts, as they are merely cosmetic. This is nice as it allows you to use any avatar with your customized vehicle by default. While I did enjoy customizing my own cart (complete with the General Lee horn from the Dukes of Hazard), I found the lack of the option to use my Xbox avatar to be a missed opportunity. Additionally, my young son was not a fan of being required to be a girl, as the cast is exclusively female and we had to lie to him letting him know that one of the short haired girls was a dude. For the record, I have nothing against being progressive or inclusive, but most five year olds do not understand this concept.When playing couch co-op, I found the screen size with three players to be a bit lackluster, since the title opts to keep all of the screens the same size and block off a large portion of the screen with black boxes. This reduced my wife’s time joining in the festivities to a few races due to not being able to see. I noticed this mode causes performance to suffer, with a few minor bugs popping up such as my car hovering above the track, opposed to driving on it. Additionally, the Paw Patrol theme on repeat soundtrack would often stop or start randomly when playing with more than one player. I found this to be a blessing, since the music was the least thrilling part of the presentation. The visuals are well rendered and are reminiscent of many of the Rare titles or Glitch’s home world from the film Wreck-It Ralph.If you’re like me (Chad) and have no access to a Nintendo system to play their standout racer, All Star Fruit Racing is a respectable replacement, offering similar gameplay with slightly less polish. If you do have regular access to the granddaddy of the genre, you’ll likely find yourself yearning for more.

In evaluating All-Stars Fruit Racing we have to underline a certain disappointment not so much for what the product is, but for what it could have been.

Thanks to its interesting fruit-based power-up system and lots of contents (including local and online multiplayer modes), All-Star Fruit Racing shows up as one of the best kart racing games around even if being dragged down a bit by some smaller technical hiccups.

With disappointing mechanics that really should be a lot more polished than they currently are, this isn’t a game that will live long in the memory for many. If you are after a colourful racer that can be enjoyed by the kids, this could be worth a look, but if you’re in need of a new joyful karting experience, then maybe you should be looking elsewhere.

It has managed to surprise us in a very positive way: although it has its flaws, like an unpolished audio as well as a lack of online features, it possesses a ton of content to enjoy, the progression and unlocking systems are adequate, the are new elements introduced in the oversteer and attack systems, that with some exceptions, add some uniqueness to it, and, most of all, has its own identity regarding the visual elements.

All-Star Fruit Racing is as sweet as its name implies. With an irresistibly cheerful aesthetic, plenty of game modes, great track variation, and good customization options all built on top of a fun kart racing foundation, there's no reason to expect genre fans won't adore this game. Audio problems get in the way of making it exceptionally great, but in every other way, it's exactly what you would want from a kart racer and then some.

All-Star Fruit Racing is a decently structured kart racing game that offers up quite a chunk of content in return for its fairly generous asking price. The main issue here is that despite being fun, much of the content lacks originality, refinement and depth. All-Star Fruit Racing may stand out, but it doesn’t quite manage to stand tall. Those that seek simplicity may enjoy this, but for those seeking more, hold out for Team Sonic Racing.

All-Star Fruit Racing takes a unique karting weapon system, throws it into a blender with some cute presentation ideas and an unfortunate series of technical annoyances, and ends up with a pretty mixed bag as a result. This is a competent racer, and there’s just about enough content to make you want to keep playing, but it never realises the potential that it could have had and doesn’t really stand up to the heights that other titles can offer. It’s just a little on the weak side to justify its asking price, so bear that in mind before jumping into a fruity purchase.
