I am a passive fan of the franchise. I spent tons of hours playing the Worms games on SNES and N64, but have not played a Worms game since.I am a passive fan of the franchise. This feels like a solid continuation from where I last left the series, for better and for worse. Loads of weapons, good level designs, and fun customization. Everything has been greatly expanded, and there is a lot of content here. The graphics are not stunning, but they pay proper tribute to the roots of the franchise, which I really appreciate. When I last touched this franchise, the slower turn based gameplay didn’t bother me at all. However today, the intentionally clunky controls mixed with the gaps between turns makes it feel like a heavily dated formula. I just find myself waiting so long for my turn that I stop paying attention. No part of the game is bad, but the formula is dated and does not have the same impact that it did 15+ years ago.

Firstly the modes available are pretty good, the single player options are nice you have the campaign which is pretty good with hilarious cutscenes to go with it, the game also includes some challenges extras and bonus missions which is great. Plus the amount of weapons available is amazing, you can craft them and equip insane weapons like a flying banana bomb for example, it’s crazy. The online works fine and the multiplayer is amazing, especially with family and friends. However issues with the game are definitely the load times and the minor glitches, they aren’t big issues but they get annoying sometimes. Worms W.M.D is overall a very good fun strategy game to play with your friends and even alone with the great single player options available, I just wish if it didn’t have as much minor glitches and annoying load times, anyhow it’s a good time nonetheless. It's Worms, and Team 17 has done a good job in restraining itself this time around so that the only gimmicks within the game genuinely add to it. What's important to note here is that the Nintendo Switch is absolutely perfect for Worms, and that fact alone makes this the best entry in the series in years.

Worms W.M.D. is a game worthy of the Worms series and a very welcome addition to the Nintendo Switch library. Not only it features the classic gameplay of the Worms series and an abundant amount of content but it also offers its players high visual standards and plenty of customization options. The drillboat is capable of traversing land OR water, which can be extremely useful in certain situations. While you can cause some major destruction inside of these vehicles, don't get caught in a bad spot; it's going to hurt when one of them explodes with you inside. Additionally, the game adds machine guns, flamethrowers, and other stationary weapons around the map for you to use as you crawl around the map. Nothing in this game feels superfluous, and it all has a reason behind it. I've found myself realizing game after game about the sometimes not-so-obvious merits and side effects of the new map elements.Over the years, I've bought new Worms games and enjoyed them, but frequently found myself disappointed when some of the great classic weapons were removed. I'm proud to report that W.M.D brings back ALL of the best weapons from the series, as far as I'm concerned. Banana Bomb, Concrete Donkey, Super Sheep, Holy Hand Grenade, Sentry Gun, Carpet Bomb - they're all here... and they can be upgraded. In Worms W.M.D, a new crate drop has resources that you can use to craft weapon upgrades, as well as new weapons. This means that you can upgrade your Concrete Donkey to an Angry Concrete Donkey, which falls through the earth covered in FLAMES. The Shotgun can be upgraded into a Training Shotgun, which has laser sights on it. And if you are having a hard time finding the classic Ming Vase, the Dynamite upgrades into it, which makes sense, as having them be separate item slots would be redundant. The Ninja Rope is back again, and the physics are actually shockingly similar to the classic Worms games, which will be a relief for roping veterans.Maps now will usually have buildings on them if they are enabled. When inside a building, your worms can crawl through their tunnels and seek strategic vantage points. If you don't have any worms inside a building, you can't see any enemies that may be inside. It's very well done, and adds an extra stealth element to the game.While the game still very much shines as a multiplayer/party game, the single player modes are engaging and exciting. There are many challenges of different sorts for you to complete, and as you complete them you will unlock various goodies, such as new speech banks (accents) for your worms.The sound effects, particle effects/explosions, and environments are all fantastic and set a new standard for the series, too. Excellent.Having played MANY of the Worms games in my lifetime, I can confidently say that Worms W.M.D is the best game in the series. It honors the wisdom of the original games by retaining their strengths while innovating in just the right ways. One complaint i have is how small the community is sometimes i cant find nobody to play with online even though its a new game. Good thing it has a really good single player and local multiplayer mode.

Some niggling factors such as the awkwardness of moving your character around, the fact that your movement and weapon’s aim are frustratingly locked to the same control stick, and the unfortunate lack of ability to play online with friends prevent the game from being the amazing experience it could have been, though. If you love the Worms franchise or games of the genre you’ll likely have a lot of fun by grabbing a copy of this game, just bear these little things in mind as you make your decision.

W.M.D. is easily the best game in the Worms series in several years. It stays true to the 2D, animated roots of the ’90s games while adding enough new features to keep it feeling fresh and relevant. The relatively simple gameplay is overflowing with finesse and strategy, the presentation is fantastic, and offline or on, Worms is just incredibly fun.

Playing online with a friend resulted in many laughs, which is what Worms is all about. While it may not exceed the greatness of Armageddon in some respects, Worms is definitely back, and W.M.D. shouldn’t be passed over if you want an enjoyable night of gaming chucking a bunch of banana bombs and a slew of other new crazy weapons at a friend.

Worms W.M.D. is great re-entry point for people like me who have sort of fallen off the wagon with the series over time. It keeps what I remember, and refines what I had issues with. The hilarity is still there, the solid game play shines above the rest, and it feels good to be back.

While this addition includes vehicles and crafting elements, Worms W.M.D is near identical to the same twenty-one-year-old formula that Team 17 have been chugging out since the 90s. I was expecting more changes but they’re on the right track.

Some were exclusive as a pre-order bonus. They have to fix this and give all weapons to all players.

Team 17’s famous worms are back again with one of their best action and strategy installments. This 2D game features many improvements and a nostalgic touch that will be liked by most players.

If you are looking for a multiplayer game to play with family and friends on the couch or for a game night over the internet you could do a lot worse than get a bout of Worms!

Faithful to the Worms tradition, the new Team 17 title, with its bizarre new weapons and vehicles, manages to be a fun experience even if the crafting mechanics aren't the most user friendly out there.

Playing this game did give me a lot of nostalgia about middle school, yes, but when it comes to fun to be had in 2016, Worms W.M.D. feels dated, as does the enjoyment you can squeeze out of it.

A worthy continuation of the Worms franchise, a nice return to form after deviating to 3D for a few years. Worms W.M.D gets everything right from a mechanical standpoint, but we can't help but feel a few of the design choices were unnecessary. The big new additions are hit and miss, but in the middle of all the fluff there's a solid, very playable game - especially if you're into couch co-op/multiplayer.

One of the best Worms games from the last few years, thanks to old school gameplay coupled with good additions capable of deepening it even more. We're still missing a complete levels editor, hoping it will be added later.
