This game is partially awesome, partially average, overall very good. The graphic and animation compartments are of the highest quality, the gameplay is smooth, it is not necessary to stay behind protection walls or obstacles to survive, like it was in the first chapter. The movements are agile and it's possible to avoid damage fairly easily with good reflexes. The world itself is gorgeous, but unfortunately the maps are reduced to corridors and narrow rooms, exploration is still reduced to zero, just like the previous games of the series. In the campaign the story is fair: the prologue and first chapter are a little weak on the impact point of view, in fact the robot enemies are quite uninspired, and the flashbacks too short to be intersting or to ignite some emotions. Luckily from the second chapter of the game things fire up a lot, with the intro of old Marcus (and his rough ironic misfortunes) and of the new locust/swarm enemies. As I said before the maps are really narrow, but they are masterfully designed and it's often possible to hold on for some moments to admire the beauties of the environment. Interaction with the surroundings is still fairly low, and unfortunately there is a lot of backtracking, so the player, as the story unfolds, is forced to return to his steps following the same rooms he met before. The new characters are cool enough to be able to replace the old generation, that is mostly present as spectators and only in the last part of the story. There is much variety of situations to keep the gameplay very interesting.Speaking of the multyplayer mode I've tried mainly Horde and it is really fun to play, mainly if the player finds the right group of people to play with, otherwise it's a chore.

With The Coaltion at the reins Gears is in safe hands, and we're genuinely intrigued to see what happens next.

Gears Of War 4 is a success, then, even if it does take The Coalition a little too long to find its feet in its single-player campaign.

Gears of War 4 is a worthy successor to the series and an enjoyable game overall, especially if you are fan of blistering and intense action games. It doesn't reinvent the wheel, it plays mainly into the "safe" net that was built by Epic Games, but for PC users who couldn't play any of the latest games of the franchise, GOW 4 is a great opportunity to find out about it.

Most obvious are the efforts of artists and designers: Sera after two decades of peace looks much more vibrant, and every location – even local mines – is instantly recognizable. Gameplay, on the other hand, hasn’t changed in its core – but it’s much more polished now (which is especially noticeable if you compare it to recent remake of first Gears of War).

First off you have to install Teredo Tunneling protocol to even start using it AND you need to turn ON your software firewall (which is good practice if you direct connect to a modem). The software does not support UPNP so the voice chat in game is essentially broken. IT seems a lot of people in the multiplayer (not campaign) randomly disconnect if they are console players which is possibly due to the bridge of the networks. I haven't had one game of horde mode where my friend who is on pc and myself have lost half our team by the 4th round. I give it a 4 score because of the technical issues that shouldn't be an issue with any other PC game.

Gears of War 4 is a triumphant return to form for the series. What’s more, it proves that the franchise is more than safe in the hands of The Coalition. A visual spectacle that dials back some of the macho ridiculousness of the original trilogy whilst refining and expanding the gameplay, it’s genuinely a game to own an Xbox One for.

An experience you’ll walk away from with a big smile on your face – in campaign, Versus, and Horde modes alike. It’s about as good of a franchise reawakening as I could’ve hoped for.

Gears 4 takes only half measures. It discards a lighthearted adventure premise for another fate-of-humanity monster invasion. It gives up on the anti-militarist bent of its early fight against the COG for another plot about soldiers trying to save humanity.

A serviceable campaign is augmented by a very robust multiplayer offering. Gears of War 4 offers spectacular graphics and great PC performance, but the story feels unfinished.

Gears of War 4 is not a breakthrough for the franchise, but it underlines a successful transition from Epic Games to The Coalition. We would have loved more risk-taking, but overall it's still a great game.

Gears of War 4 is the best Gears yet. Don't expect a revolution, but a refinement of all of the aspects that make Gears great, including an over-the-top, almost cartoonish campaign, and a kick-ass upgrade of Horde mode. It's also a flawless representative of Microsoft's new "Play Anywhere" and Universal Windows Platform initiatives.

Gears of War 4 as a whole looks interesting and it's definitely a pleasure to once again become an armed warrior and jump from cover to cover. The game may not impress in terms of graphics, and the universe is not as captivating as it used to be, but it's still good, demanding "Gears" - and that's crucial.

Even with a new studio leading the development charge, Gears of War 4 is a return to form for the series, and is continual delight, even if it does unnecessarily cling for dear life to the past.
