Side-scroller, keyboard only, very short, empty world, lifeless, nothing to explore, nothing to interact with, no running...You can sit anywhere though. That's your clue for how lazy the makers are.The realisation of this would-be game took about 1% of the time of that of most free games. It's not free though. It's not cheap either. 15 US dollars 6 years after release, it's unbelievable. Some people have no shame. Whatsoever.

Elegy For A Dead World delivers, but only if you meet it halfway with a hunger for derelict worlds and an extensive collection of original tales.

The latest from Dejobaan therefore seems like a stepping stone, a strong premise and peaceful beginning with little longevity and little to do outside the foundation of the game. You have to wonder if there will be more to write in the future.

It’s fun to write stories, and this game is a must for those who feel the desire to tell tales, in whatever forms they may be.

I'm hesitant to write a review with the game only out one week, since so much of it relies on the community contributing content. I love the idea and have found the game genuinely motivating, and it helps spark creativity. But I'm skeptical with only three worlds to explore and only a dozen or so writing prompts. This feels like a good first step toward a grander experiment. This sort of game would have been glorious in my high school days, I never found much inspiration when the English teacher took us outside for "free writing." More worlds and more prompts would be great. There are also a handful of buildings you can enter on each world, but they're mostly for show and offer little to the experience (I'd rather have forks in the road that take me to a whole nother part of the world). Also a more streamlined system for revising your own work, it's clunky to have to go back to the same world, or look through each one to find a work that you want to edit/publish.Unfortunately so far I have found no commendable writings by other players, most are bad jokes and attempts to be crude. Hopefully this will change over time as more people submit and rate other works.If you have even a passing interest in writing, this game is a great way to exercise your creativity (it's particularly good for poetry imo).

Elegy for a Dead World may be a jarring departure from traditions, but unlike the more pretentious attempts at alternative gaming experiences we’ve seen in recent times, this is one idea that should be encouraged.

Elegy for a Dead World may have its issues, but it provides the spark and kindling for a blaze of creativity. It ought to prove plenty of fun for anyone who chooses to keep feeding the fire.
