The single player campaign is solid, with some missions being excellent and others being quite forgettable. This is one of the few Call of Duty games where I found myself actually getting immersed in the setting, which is largely due to the game's excellent visuals and character animations. The multiplayer is very 'standard', even for a Call of Duty game, with a hub world that is pointless and microtransactions/lootboxes that are shoved in your face. Nothing about the multiplayer is 'new' which makes it feel a little underwhelming and boring. The zombies mode is decent but definitely not the best in the series by any means. Overall, I feel that this game is well put together but it definitely comes across as unoriginal and generic, however I still feel its worth experiencing for anyone that likes WWII settings and if you are a big fan of the franchise then you will likely enjoy what the game has to offer.

A magnificent, but also a sympathetic, unpretentious return to the roots of the series. Yet the campaign is short-lived, and your next experience depends on how much you enjoy the multiplayer and/or shooting Nazi zombies.

Call of Duty: WWII is a game that was much requested by fans and ultimately hits most of its targets. The story mode's focus on in-the-trenches brotherhood falls short of its mark due to introducing a dozen or so characters and only getting a few of them to stand out. However, if you're coming back to the series annually you're probably in it for its other two modes, multiplayer and zombies. In both instances, they innovate in fun ways. At times, it does feel like the whole package benefits from the simple timeline swap. If you gave up on the franchise's small maps and repetitive story structure, WWII doesn't do enough to make you want to come back. It remains true to itself, for better or worse. For anyone who still plays the games with glee every November, Call of Duty: WWII is a better-late-than-never return to the series' roots.

I can’t help feel (that word again) that Call of Duty: WWII is a definite improvement in the series, and I can only hope that they will choose to remain in this time period. Now that Sledgehammer Games proved they are up to the task, it’s very likely they will continue with some great releases. The community was not expecting this kind of quality from the franchise, especially after the declining trend of the previous titles, but it’s definitely a nice surprise and worth checking out, especially if you’re a PC gamer.

Please don't listen to the 0-3 reviews, and equally please ignore the 8-10 reviews, they're total bull.I won't go too in depth as to why I don't like this game I'll just list a few points I think are most important.Everyone is raving about war, I can understand why people like it but for me dying 10+ times is infuriating and pointless, if I wanted to play a purely objective game mode is play battlefield who actually have a player base who will play the objective.Zombies is good at first but very very boring and too complicated to play more than a few times for me.Campaign was pretty good to be honest.The multiplayer is the core to this game and I hate the new class system it's restrictive and honestly ruined the game for me, I prestiges all classes just for the weapons then changed them all to mountain. Spawns are terrible, maps are terrible and theres 9?! There's literally 3 decent maps. If you buy Call of Duty games every year, there's no reason to pass on WWII, which is a quality installment in the long-running franchise. The single-player portion was surprisingly good, but with the exception of the new War mode, the multiplayer was not to my liking. The developers wanted the multiplayer to be more rapidly paced, but it lacks balance because the Airborne division is incredibly overpowered. The Nazi Zombies mode is fun, as always. WWII is a good break from the science-fiction mechanics of the past few releases in the series, and it's a worthwhile purchase since you're bound to sink dozens of hours into it.

Call of Duty: WWII is most definitely a more than decent entry to the franchise. The return of boots-on-the-ground gameplay is certainly welcomed and it’s good to see Sledgehammer Games take a little risk and try out some new features.

There's no denying that in the moment, the single-player campaign, the multiplayer modes, and Zombies mode are satisfying and create a well-tuned shooter experiences defined by super-high production values and polish. Take a longer view, however, and you're likely to feel more than a little ennui over the setting and a bit let down by a game that feels like a corporate decision rather than a passion project. World War II defined the course of nations and the fate of millions. Call of Duty: WWII misses the opportunity to find its own, unique or emotionally compelling journey through the conflict. It is a mechanically solid, visually impressive shooter bolted to a story we've seen too many times.

This game is buggier than road kill. Snipers quick scoping in close quarters without taking time to aim, because the aim assist for snipers is ridiculous. it has the potential to be so much fun too. That's what makes playing it so frustrating.

A welcome return to the origins for Call of Duty, with an immersive campaign and a classic multiplayer. The new Zombi mode is the one that feels more improved and a step forward, while multiplayer could have used a bit more of innovation, but it's still highly enjoyable.

Now-a-days if I buy a shooter it's mostly for the Campaign play.I would say this is the best COD campaign to date, but unfortunately that's a rather low bar set by a series who clearly focuses on the multiplayer aspect. I had fun with the story which took me around 9 hours to play through on regular difficulty. I'm a little surprised to see that such a huge franchise not only fails to push the envelope on graphics/emersion/sound, but doesn't even seem to meet the expectations set by games like Battlefield 1 and Ghost Recon Wild Lands. Granted BF1 may have been ahead of it's time, but it's also a year old, so my biggest gripe with WW2 is the unmistakably inferior gameplay. Most notably, the first person movement, it still glides along way too fast and sporadic very unlike true POV movement should be. Cut scenes where normally a game gets to flex it's graphic muscles, still lack. There is definite mismatching of mouth/words, choppy movement and "game" feel. But it's a review and I'm mostly pointing out the flaws, I did enjoy it and don't regret $60 purchase.Multiplayer- Come one guys, there must be SOMETHING you can do to fix this. Unless you are a habitual COD or other FPS multiplayer gamer, the multiplayer is simply no fun, and actually quite irritating. I don't blame the kids who are scoring 30-2 in team deathmatch, I DO blame the creators for not correcting the problem. There are definitely ways to create lobby's either manual or auto where players can play with similar K:D ranges as themselves. I don't want an "I suck" lobby, I don't mind scoring low, I just want to play and have some fun after $60 and only a 9 hour campaign. I've logged about 3 hours of online play at the time of this review, and in team deathmatch/domination play I'm averaging about a 5:20. Simply no fun and pisses off the rest of the team. If I could rate the story and multiplayer separate I'd say 7 and 1. Even the war mode, which is nice they don't show my huge amount of deaths, the gameplay isn't much more fun since I'm still being shot in the face every 6 steps.I'm not sure what was different, but while BF1's campaign was a better single player experience, they also seemed to write a multiplayer experience that was accommodating for the "Dad" players like me. I think after a few days I was close to a 1:2 average and 1:1 on good days, not a selfish goal for online play. Shallow story combined with historic inaccuracies and very buggy multiplayer gave us a game that leaves a bitter taste in stark contrast with big expectations. War Mode is a bright spot and is currently the only thing really worth playing, but there’s still hope that the game might improve over time with patches.

In terms of bringing old-school Call of Duty up to modern standards, Call of Duty: WWII does fairly admirably, but at the same time every end of it feels like something is missing. The campaign is a tour and spectacle of the terror and intensity of the conflict as the Allies fought their way into to the Eagle’s Nest, but the forgoing of nearly all outside perspectives in favor of an all-American campaign feels narrow in comparison to previous COD outings that have tackled this subject matter. Likewise, multiplayer is as tight as ever and War mode is a solid addition that we hope to see built upon in all further Call of Duty content, but the hub feels tacked on. Zombie Mode is still Zombie Mode and fans will find a lot to discover and challenge in the new scenario, but the stark tones might put off the more lighthearted fans of the mode in its previous incarnations. COD: WWII is far from the worst of the series and players will find a wealth of well-crafted moments and design here, but a few too many oddities and omissions keep it from being the best that Call of Duty has ever offered.

Call of Duty: WW2 is refreshing thanks to its slower pace, historical weaponry and thematic divisions. However, this game does not really reinvent the wheel, especially when it comes to the single-player.

As a whole package, Call of Duty: WWII has a little something for everyone to enjoy, but that has been the story of this series for a long time. No, this homecoming is far, far better than the sum of its parts, a true return to form in practically every respect. It feels alien to be looking back on a new Call of Duty release as anything other than enjoyable yet unremarkable triple-A fare, but here we are. Call of Duty: WWII delivers on all fronts: compelling and heartfelt in its storytelling; imposing in its sense of scale and spectacle; and unremittingly addictive in its gunplay.

Many people thought that changing the setting for this Call of Duty: WWII would be great. Maybe returning to historical events is not a bad notion and the new COD is an always slick shooter, but the game is also short on new ideas.

The campaign production values are amazing as always, with excellent acting and motion capture, huge set pieces, and a fair bit of variety. And of course, WWII shows serious dedication to multiplayer with the new headquarters social hub, the excellent new war mode, and a gritty co-op Zombies mode. Whether you're interested in campaign or multiplayer, Call of Duty: WWII is the complete package and a must-play first-person shooter this holiday season.

There’s something here for everyone, as it feels like almost three separate games based on what you prefer to play. Sledgehammer Games has become a great storyteller with their (mostly) exciting campaign, solid multiplayer that keeps you hooked as you level up and earn Supply Drops, and a Nazi Zombie mode that’s sure to have you and your friends scratching your heads trying to solve its mysteries. They could have played it safe, but they weren’t happy with the status quo, which is where Headquarters and War spawned from, a great multiplayer addition to the series, and one that I hope stays going forward. It’s time to get the squad back together and get back into some intense World War II action as Call of Duty is indeed back and this year’s entry is pretty much a ‘must play’ for fans of the series, and fans of video games alike.

Call of Duty: WW2 is the best Call of Duty in years. Bombastic story, killer grounded multiplayer, and a dark and scary Zombies make up one of the most complete and enjoyable Call of Duty experiences in years.
