One of the most approachable and enjoyable 2D fighters I’ve ever played, Phantom Breaker: Omnia has the potential to be great, but nullifies the effectiveness of its battle mechanics by trying to be too accessible, which ultimately restricts the best action to the multiplayer modes.

Phantom Breaker: Omnia surprises by offering solid content and robust gameplay. It brings, at the same time, simplicity and sophistication in its mechanics that distance itself (a little) from the more conventional style without reinventing the wheel. There are a few inconsistencies here and there, but overall, the game is enjoyable, fun, and very charismatic.

Phantom Breaker: Omnia brings strong old-school vibes and it's good in terms of gameplay and characters. It is too much old-school in terms of single player and multiplayer content, and that's not very positive.

With its low barrier of entry for controls and special moves; Omina is easy to pick up and just moderately difficult to master and with its rollback netcode for online multiplayer when you need a break from some of the bigger anime fighters, I recommend checking out Phantom Breaker: Omina.

Phantom Breaker: Omnia has addictive gameplay and a shocking amount of depth. The blend of simple attack inputs and advanced fight systems creates a beautiful blend. Aesthetic issues like inconsistent character art are easy to overlook if you're just here to fight some friends - but controller input issues and a command list buried five menus deep are big blunders that I doubt anyone could easily overlook.

Phantom Breaker Omnia is a fighting game from ten years ago and you can see it in every part. Although narratively and technically not interesting, it has heart and originality. The gameplay, accessible to all and well layered, saves the game.

Nostalgia and respect for previous games in the saga (it even has a connection to PB: Battleground). Characters were redrawn and look amazing (no aliasing anymore). The 3D effects have been tweaked and look good. Two new characters "Maestra" (in Spanish means Teacher) who uses a greatsword and Artifactor who uses a "flying shield". The Omnia style grants 4 power bars so you can combine them with combos and feel like you're in a Capcom VS Series. Behind the anime aesthetics and cheap cliches, there are some great stories waiting to be read. 690G (or more) easy archivements.The bad:In the arcade, the AI ​​is not only advantageous but also tricky (don't be surprised to see how round 2 they are already doing counters, recharging energy, dodging powers, making precise guard and turning around almost finished fights. Follow the error that your own character is paused when activating a power which gives enough time to the opponent (human and AI) to block, dodge and even counter. The execution timing of powers and hitbox is erratic in some frames they enter, in others nothing happens and you only spend a power bar. The new characters do not contribute much "Maestra" is very similar to Mikoto feeling like another Mikoto clone/skin with minimal changes (remember that there is also White-Mikoto / Shiro-Mikoto as a playable character) and Artifactor although he has a beautiful design, he is the classic character who has attacks from other characters using various weapons from other characters. Overdrive was nerfed (for a good reason). Flat backgrounds and you see that in the world of Phantom Breaker is empty and desolate, there is no NPC or lineup character in the background at least goofing around, walking in the background or supporting/watching the fight. The menus are more than generic.The Meh!:The story mode is fine, although it transforms the game into a visual novel with some one-round fights, but there is no challenge mode to test your skills (to at least know that you master some of the game's mechanics, that the CPU will not hesitate to use them to turn a round around, there are some challenges in the stories of the Extra characters but not in all). All the product placement was edited out but curiously the Bullet Soul poster is still there in a stage preview. In the intro they make it look like **** is one of the bad guys (he's not the best character or the most charismatic but he's not the bad guy). I play at low volume because the voices in Japanese get irritating after a while and the voices in English, although they don't bother, some don't relate correctly to the character. I would like to see these characters in a VS Series like Capcom's with double screens, aerial combos, characters bouncing everywhere, shooting lightning and powers every two times three, at that level of madness it's the Phantom Breaker. The ending memes are hilarious and will make you smile. The guest characters Kurisu Makise (Steins;Gate) and Rimi (Chaos Head) return but I have not seen thanks to their respective brands... if they realize they can claim copyright and delete them

Phantom Breaker: Omnia is a cacophonic mess, and if you’ve got local friends and want to play a janky anime fighter, then this is literally the best game of all time. The lack of basic quality-of-life additions found in modern fighting games, as well as aged and clashy sprite work almost feels lazy when every other addition improves the experience. It makes me question why the game wasn’t rebuilt entirely to start. The only way this game is remotely feasible online is through using Parsec on PC, as the game will not be getting rollback netcode. Despite all of this, I really enjoyed the game and had a total blast playing. Probably due in part to being able to play as some of my favorite fictional characters and I hope I’ll be able to play it with some friends down the line, as well as 100% the title. But I think I’m going to be one hell of an outlier with this experience.

Phantom Breaker: Omnia is a long-awaited release of a dormant niche fighting game franchise that many players will be jumping into for the very first time. It's the best first impression you'll get for this fighter, but it's also one that can be overwhelming and hard to sift through for those not completely ready for it.

If you are a fighting game fan you probably won’t be able to look past the floaty controls, loose game flow, and flimsy mechanics. It’s lacking basic quality of life, and all this stuff adds up. If you’re looking for a solid introduction to fighting games and enjoy anime, you’ll probably at least find some value here. I think there are much better introductory fighting games that offer smoother game flow and better spectacle to the players, and probably for cheaper. Simplified mechanics aren’t inherently a flaw, but I think Phantom Breaker: Omnia makes the fatal mistake of over-simplification. Maybe the Nintendo Switch port is just of subpar quality and the other consoles would have provided a better experience, but that just goes to show that if you do want to play this game you should do so elsewhere.

Phantom Breaker is an interesting fighter that finds a niche in a somewhat crowded genre. The use of character styles and chain-based combat gives the game its own identity and provides an additional layer of strategy in fights. The omission of a tutorial and move list is baffling and is a barrier to mastering mechanics. Characters are well crafted and their personalities are shared in the game’s story, however, the roster itself lacks variety. Despite its originality on the stage, some design issues halt Phantom Breaker: Omnia from competing with its competition.

Phantom Breaker: Omnia isn't a bad fighting game. The fighting seems deep at first but quickly turns chaotic with plenty of moves that don't look like they connect and a roster that looks more generic than impressive. The presentation is OK with decent music and graphics that look a touch underwhelming. The modes are numerous, but those who will want to play online will be disappointed at the lack of rollback netcode. The Switch is already blessed with a bevy of solid fighting games, so the only reason to grab this one is if you really want all of the fighting games that the system has to offer.

As a casual fighting game fan, I am drawn to the type of experience Phantom Breaker: Omnia has going for it. It’s very low commitment, not the type of fighter where I feel I’m going to have to invest day after day to be able to land those epic combos and spectacular specials. That’s certainly an option for those who want to make a serious go at it, but I’d wager, like most other fighters that attempt to simplify the fighting game experience, this one will likely remain favored by a more easygoing audience than those who destined to stand atop the podium at EVO.

Phantom Breaker: Omnia is a really interesting anime fighting game with an eclectic cast of characters, even if some of those characters’ art styles look strange and out of place. An interesting and easy-to-understand fighting system also means being able to specialize any given character with the game’s three systems and further boosting playstyle variety.

It’s a shame that Phantom Breaker: Omnia doesn’t have rollback netcode, because that’s where most hardcore fighting game fans will perhaps be getting their fun out of it. There is still some joy to be had though, and for those who simply like to play against the CPU or another human via local versus, there’s very little to complain about. It may not be a property you’re familiar with, but if you’re a fighting game fan you’d be wise to check Phantom Breaker: Omnia out.

Even with its smart gameplay and its complex and fun systems, Phantom Breaker: Omnia can't really compete with some of the best fighting games around, due to the lack of rollback netcode and disappointing lack of modes. Seeing it finally come to the west is still good news, and we hope a decent community will form around the game anyways, but there are better options out there for fighting game fans at the moment.

Phantom Breaker: Omnia brings the game to western countries for the first time. However, it also brings what seem to be vestiges of old and outdated game design that work against it. While the fighting mechanics might be easy to understand, every character feels like they play the same way and the combat is so unintuitive it feels like you're just in a button-mashing contest. It works as a novelty and not much else.
