Nier: Automata shares the post-apocalyptic setting of the original Nier, taking place after the game's fourth ending. Characters such as Emil and minor characters from Nier will appear, while other characters from both Nier and Drakengard 3 are mentioned. Aside from this, the two games share no direct story connections. It will also retain the dark atmosphere and branching story paths common to the Drakengard series as a whole.

UI is a mess. it is like early PS2 era games. Old, cluttered menus deep in other menus. Combat is button mashing while having no idea what is happening in the screen. Oh and saving and famous game restart and watching aaaaaall cutscenes and tutorials after each death in game prologue. Those guys in Platinium really hate gamers. :D

It was my first Nier experience and I was blown away. Although the graphics aren't up to par to what we're used to on AAA games, it more than makes up for it everywhere else. The gameplay is stylish and addictive, the music is amazing, and the story is a wild ride that needs to be experienced by everyone. It is very well paced and the story keeps you guessing until the end. There are multiple endings so just when you thought you were done, it opens another path for you. The only negative I've encountered are some minor glitches in this game that randomly happen but don't ruin the experience for me at all. I have heard that the YoRHA Edition has more glitches so do look into that before deciding if you should buy the standard edition or the YoRHA. This review was based on the standard edition.
