Winner of the Game Critics Awards and Gamescom 2017 Best RPG, Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom is finally here. Building on the success of the first instalment (Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Which), Revenant Kingdom follows the story of Evan Pettiwhisker Tildrum, the boy king of Ding Dong Dell. Set hundreds of years in the future since the Wrath of the White Witch, King Evan and his companions Roland (an older man from another world who is transformed back into a youth) and Tani (the daughter of Batu – a boss of air pirates) must seek out and build a new kingdom after being overthrown from his own by the mouse tribe (Evan is part of the cat tribe obviously!). Evan is also joined by elemental creatures known as Higgledies who act as his guardian angels at times and help him defeat his enemies.
The loveable characters, fantastic visuals and charming story line make this a really enjoyable game to play. It’s certainly an upgrade on the much-loved original with a real focus on enhancing the narrative between characters and the gameplay itself. Gone is the turn-based combat, upgraded to real time action combat that’s set in the open world as opposed to separate battle arenas, providing a much smoother and varied gaming experience.
