Ever wondered what life would’ve been like if the Nazis had won WW2? Well thanks to MachineGames’ Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, now you don’t have to! This action adventure first person shooter is the eighth in the Wolfenstein series and the sequel to The New Order. Set in a 1961 alternate reality version of the USA, it follows the exploits of war veteran William ‘BJ’ Blazkowicz and his efforts to bring down the Nazi regime.
Now if you couldn’t tell from the plot summary, there is an element of fiction to the narrative and it doesn’t stop there. Some of the weaponry you can wield, you’re more likely to find in a galaxy far far away than 1960’s America but what this game lacks in realism, it makes up for in pure enjoyment. With the ability to carry an unlimited amount of weapons and switch between them at any time, this game is never short of action. Oh and most of them can be ‘dual wielded’ meaning you can use two at the same time for maximum carnage! Is it unrealistic – yes, does it make it any less enjoyable – hell no! Quite the opposite in fact!
It’s not just all about running in head first all guns blazing though. Using stealth and the cover system (in use in the Wolfenstein series) is key to completing some of the hardest missions. All in all it’s a fast paced, high action game with a strong narrative that’s definitely lived up to the hype of its predecessor – what more could you want?!
