It is a pick-up-and-play swinging action puzzler, with most levels taking less than 20 seconds to complete, but you will likely play many levels 20 times or more if for no other reason than to get a faster time. When you fail, you are back at the start in about a second. The art style is surreal and simple. We picked this game as part of a bundle, so for about $2 it is very competitive with other bargain titles.

It is a very repetitive and simple game without a whole lot to really offer. It tries to appear like it has heavy Vaporwave influences, but I struggled to really see any traces of its influence throughout the game. If having an occasional dolphin and some neon lights constitutes as Vaporwave then I guess this could technically count? The levels all feel the same, the overall tone and look of the levels never changes enoigh and there are no new mechanics introduced throughout the game. Repetitive gameplay and level design doesn't mix well when you're repeating said levels countless times just to beat them, yet alone go for a better score. I got bored within about one hour of playing, and can't see myself going back anytime soon. This feels more like an IOS game than an actual indie game.

Verlet Swing’s appeal is going to be based on how much patience you have, if you really enjoy challenging yourself or crave climbing leaderboards. You’re going to need to persevere through a lot of frustration if you want to even get close to completing all 100 levels, but my hats off to you if you’re able to do so; at least the soundtrack is upbeat and doesn’t wear out its welcome. Sure it’s got some really out there visuals and is the definition of abstract, but patience is a virtue, and absolutely required to get through Verlet Swing.

Verlet Swing is reasonably priced considering there are a fair few hours of gameplay to be had here. It has a distinct style and provides enjoyable, easy to play, hard to master thrills. Patience is definitely a virtue with this game, but you could do much worse, so make sure you swing by and check it out sometime.
