Summary

Set in a fictitious continent reminiscent of the 1930s, Valkyria Chronicles depicts Europe divided in two and ruled by two super powers: the Empire and the Federation. The Empire has set its sights on invading a small neutral country called Gallia, situated in the middle of the two superpowers territories, in an attempt to secure invaluable natural resources. Within this struggle a hero named Welkin, and his fellow soldiers of the Federation's 7th Platoon, are fighting back against the invasion and the Empires attempts to unify the continent under its power.

During the ensuing war the Federation discovers that the Empire possesses a secret weapon, known as the "Valkyria" - an ancient race with special powers thought to exist only in legends. With this new discovery the fate of the Federation's ability to turn the tide of the war, and the hope for a better future, hang in the balance.

Beautifully rendered battlefields: Players explore 30 different environments, using unique terrain features to gain advantages in battle.

Storyline

In the year 1935 E.C., the continent of Europa is dominated by two superpowers: The autocratic East Europan Imperial Alliance in the east and a commonwealth of loosely allied democracies known as the Atlantic Federation in the west. The economies of both powers depend on a precious multipurpose mineral called Ragnite. Its growing scarcity results in the Empire declaring war on the Federation, sparking the Second Europan War. The Empire uses its military superiority to quickly put the Federation on the defensive. Emboldened by their progress and momentum, the Empire decides to invade the neutral Principality of Gallia in order to seize its rich Ragnite deposits.

When Imperial forces launch an attack on the Gallian border town of Bruhl, Welkin Gunther, son of late Gallian national hero General Belgen Gunther, is forced to fight for his life alongside the town watch captain, Alicia Melchiott. Together with Welkin's adopted sister Isara and using Belgen's prototype tank from the first war, the Edelweiss, they escape to Gallia's capital, Randgriz, and subsequently join the country's militia forces. Welkin is given the rank of lieutenant and assumes command of the newly-formed Squad 7, with Alicia acting as his non-commissioned officer. Initially, members of the squad question Welkin's qualifications due to a lack of combat experience; however, he quickly earns their trust and loyalty with his tactical genius. Welkin and Alicia soon become romantically engaged.

Excellent game. The combat is turn based and very tactical, hard enough to force you to think, but not hard enough to be frustrating. TheExcellent game. The combat is turn based and very tactical, hard enough to force you to think, but not hard enough to be frustrating. The plot, despite having a lot of cliches, hold its grip on you from the beginning to the end. The characters are very likable, and before you know it Squad 7 will be your family too. It took me 30h to beat the main campaign, without rushing it and ignoring the skirmishes. Highly recommended if you're looking for a turn based tactical combat and a good story.

Valkyria Chronicles is a good strategy/RPG that blends different gameplay elements together with an enjoyable outcome. Its story wraps up themes about war, friendship and racism, while its comic-style graphics age well, and its music is memorable. SEGA also delivers a decent port with all previously DLC included.

What are you doing!? Buy this game now! It's really, really good! This is a title that gives me hope for the future of ported PC games. It'sWhat are you doing!? Buy this game now! It's really, really good! This is a title that gives me hope for the future of ported PC games. It's just that good. It's got everything to it; a solid story, meaningful, memorable characters you wanna save and keep alive... and even date, exquisite gameplay, and an art style that's filled with much love and soul. It's got the problem of Anime characters being young but seemingly having experienced the world over and much more, but it's got way less of that, and angst, compared to the dull characters you'll find in most later Final Fantasy games. The soldiers in your team have wonderful stories behind them. The only gripe I have is that the turn-based RPG gunfights have poor ballistics and unexplainable misses. But these faults are minor as this game, by some miracle, got so many things right, it's a classic. What happened to Valkyria Chronicles 2 and 3 is a travesty that needs to be corrected. Great games like these should not be bound to their platforms. PORT THESE GAMES TO PC SEGA!

Valkyria Chronicles game is a tactical and story-oriented RPG in Japanese style, which features a unique combat system, beautiful visuals and also some annoying problems with controls. But you definitely won’t be wrong if you give the game a chance.
