Wildlands is the tenth instalment in the Ghost Recon series and the first to feature an open world. And not just any open world, according to Ubisoft it’s the largest they’ve ever produced. They’re not lying either, it’s huge! Made up of pretty much every type of environment you can imagine.
You’ll find yourself as a member of Delta Company, First Battalion, Fifth Special Forces group (what a mouthful no wonder they had to come up with a nickname) aka the ‘Ghosts,’ who are a fictional special ops US Army unit.
The setting is Bolivia in the year 2019. It’s become a narco-state and the world’s largest producer of cocaine. The drug cartel Santa Blanca is becoming more and more powerful and has caught the attention of the US government. When a DEA agent based at the US embassy in La Paz is targeted with a bomb and then kidnapped, tortured and murdered it’s the final straw and that’s where you come in. Lead by a man known only as ‘Nomad’ the ghosts are sent in to take out the cartel which, as you can imagine, is no easy task.
The action-packed game features a day/night cycle and a dynamic weather system so you need to think tactically when attempting to complete mission objectives. Will you attack during the day when you have greater visibility but are easier to spot? Or will you move under the cover of darkness when some guards could well be sleeping? Play solo with three AI team mates or cause mayhem with up to three friends in multiplayer – the choice is yours.
