While there’s no doubt that graphically things have been pulled back a bit from my top-notch graphics card I was impressed with the look and performance of the Switch version… though as always portably the sacrifices are a bit more pronounced. Whether solo or with others online or locally you’ll be tackling some old-school mummified enemies of various kinds, looking for secrets, working out puzzles, and generally being a badass in the classic Indiana Jones-esque sort of manner. While this is a shooter without a doubt the pacing is much slower than you’d normally find, with a focus on accuracy, making use of a wide variety of traps that are pretty well everywhere, and your occasional special skill that can get you out of a jam. On top of the action a highlight for me is the running commentary from the classically styled narrator who reinforces the older period things are taking place in and injecting all sorts of funny commentary on different going on throughout. Strange Brigade is a fun and exciting game that’s much better experienced with friends than alone. It does sacrifice graphics for performance and, although that’s not a bad thing, it would have been nice to have seen it not looking so dated.

All in all, Strange Brigade is a solid romp that runs very well on Nintendo’s limited hardware. If you and a few friends are looking for a good cooperative diversion to blast through on the weekend, then you can look no further. If you’re hoping for a true successor to Left 4 Dead on the Switch, temper those expectations a bit. Otherwise, come in for the zombie and mummy hordes, and stay for the absolutely endless alliteration the narrator provides. Also, each hero’s special ability is just over the top and cool. My personal favorite being a lasso of doom that vaporizes anything in front.

I would say it's a 1920/30's set, mix of Doom 2016 gameplay (in that you traverse levels to get to kill rooms) and Left4Dead (the co-op nature) all with the backdrop of Indiana Jones like tomb raiding. It has various locales and its very well rendered. Graphically detailed and a very solid framerate too. There's a variety of enemies from basic mummies to centurion mummies, giant scorpions and scarab swarms. There's plenty of hectic battles with overwhelming numbers of enemies. The narrator is fun and gives out plenty of sarcastic jibes in places. I played it in solo mode as I usually play these kinds of games and it was great imo. I personally loved the puzzles solving to gain access to more treasure or weaponry and so it becomes a bit of a collect-em-up, which I love. Then you get to more kill rooms and its full on blast fest, with a required mentality of old skool Gauntlet games trying to minimize enemy numbers so you can bottleneck them or run around so that they follow and clear a path to a super weapon chest, then it really becomes fun. All in all I would recommend this game, it plays well, has puzzles and collectables and DLC too. Only marked down a little because it can get a bit repetitive in places (a bit like Doom does), and that it doesn't have more outlandish set pieces to really wow the player.

This is one game that was definitely designed with multiplayer in mind. Think Sniper Elite: Nazi Zombie Army, with mummies and minotaurs instead of goose-stepping undead, and you're pretty warm. Add a touch of Indiana Jones and Lara Croft, and a sprinkle of Monty Python-esque humour and you have...Strange Brigade.Overall: a wee better than Zombie Army, and substantially better than a wet fish to the face. Pros: the game looks really good and it is dripping with atmosphere. I absolutely love the 1930's Egyptian feel. The Narrator who speaks throughout the game, is charming, witty, and refreshingly funny. The enemy variation is GREAT! I cannot say enough how I loved the different enemies and bosses. The game felt fresh every level. Levels were different enough to keep me engaged. I had a great time playing co-op with my brother and that doubled the fun.

No regenerating health, learn the enemies movements and weak points, and actually have fun within the game levels as provided.If your tired of open worlds filled to the brim with fetch quests, if you are disillusioned enough to know that "Battle Royals" are more boring versions of death matches, or if you want loot boxes that can be opened by pressing square rather than using your wallet, then strange brigade is for you.The basic structure of the game is simple, walk a linear level, which has some cross sections, kill enemies on the way, open chests and find other loot, get to a large area and kill a couple of waves of enemies (using guns, skills, and environmental traps and hazards). Simple and sweet. Progressing in the game gets you: new enemies are introduced in different areas and in new levels. You can purchase better guns using loot (better stat versions of the starting guns), and you can also find runes which give your weapons special properties (life steal, ricocheting bullets etc).There are 2 main draw backs that I can think of... game length and no split screen. The campaign isn't very long (10 hrs), though the extra modes will pad out some more play time. But the biggest gripe I have with this game is... NO COUCH COOP... Sadly, you will have to sit it out solo, or go online with randos if you want that coop action.Puzzles, I have read in other reviews, to be a big problem with some people... Though I will agree that they are very simple, laughably so... BUT they are QUICK, very quick: shoot a couple of symbols, get your loot and go on the the next shootout... I fail to see this as a problem, they don't take you out of the action for long, they give you a brief distractions while you look for the correct combo, and you are off and on your way in no time to do put the dead back in the ground. Yet games like Uncharted have puzzle which are just as basic (But that being a Big Budget Game, the plebes be like: OOOOhhh its flawless!), but it isn't considered a big deal because it looks so pretty...In the end... If you want a Michael Bay blockbuster, you wont find that here... If you want a campy old school GAME, well... I'd say, tighten yer britches, ol' chapp, and enlist into the Strange Brigade.

In this co-op game you will find a great fun adventure with comedy, puzzles, banter and high jinks. But even with all that, the game falters and stumbles to the side with its high price tag, DLC, loot being shared between all players but picked up by only one, the very lack of players in the multiplayer sections, and a rather short campaign.

I enjoyed the horde-level like ending of each mission and the fact that you're able to go straight back into the battle at the latest check-point is great if you need to leave.I easily and honestly give this game 10/10 but that's maybe because I love the kind of movies that this game represents and am really intrigued by ancient Egypt so it's maybe just the perfect game for me... my only disappointment is that I've finished the campaign but looking forward to any future updates they bring as the game-play and game engine is solid!This game is on Game Pass right now which is the only reason I gave it a go, I would never have known of it's existence without gamepass.

Strange Brigade is a solid recommendation for anyone looking to dig into some old school third-person shooting wrapped in that Left 4 Dead campaign style with an added bit of 1930s distinct flavour. Strange Brigade isn’t a stand out title, it’s most likely not going to be on any Game of the Year lists, but a game doesn’t have to be innovative if it can capture something fun, and Strange Brigade does that. Not only is it a decent looking title that isn’t too demanding to run on a PC, but it takes its theme and runs with it confidently, offering a bloody good time with friends blasting through an Egyptian themed world that I don’t think I’ve been able to do in that setting since Serious Sam 3: BFE.

Also I've yet to complete the game (for reasons that will become apparent).As a fan of Rebellion games particularly the sniper elite series I was looking forward to this Strange Brigade, although a departure in style for the developer the premise to this game has Its got tons of potential.I'll start with the negative: The game-play mechanics are not the best, aiming for example can be tricky especially as the enemies tend to duck and bob as they shamble towards you, even with the aim assist on it makes little difference. Although there is fun to be had here, setting up a trap to destroy a load of enemies the game soon gets repetitive, every so often you'll get locked in an arena type area to face off against wave after wave of enemies. There is little in the way of variety, and sadly there's no way of playing to your favoured style (no stealth option for example) its all guns and bombs blazing or nothing. One more particularly annoying aspect is he clunky controls especially the melee attack which often fails to connect. Finally the lack of health potions is extremely frustrating, I have spent most of this game playing on very low health with little chance of surviving the level, I feel the balance of this game is a bit off, at least in single player mode.On the positive side: The graphics are ok, the game's narrator is excellent, funny and perfect for thefeel of the game. The puzzles can be fun and the game rewards you for exploration of every nook and cranny.I accept this game was designed primarily to be played in co-op, and the single player mode wasn't as well thought out as it could have been, as a result this game can get too frustrating to fully enjoy, and sadly there are no difficulty settings to play with if you get a bit stuck.Like I said this game as a lot of potential and maybe in co-op its more balanced , but sadly for me this game ultimately disappoints.

Playing as one of four characters in a 1930s setting, players can play either solo or co-op as they explore and battle around Egypt against an ancient evil.Armed with pistols, grenades, shotguns, rifles, and machine guns, players must batter endless waves of supernatural enemies who are determined to stop you no matter the cost.Thankfully you can give out a ton of damage from punches to your arsenal, as well as special crates that allow players to purchase additional weapons for a limited time that can really help clear things out.There are also numerous traps which can be triggered and it is very satisfying to watch a horde get cut to shreds in a blade trap or impaled and roasted with others.Players will be able to upgrade their weapons as well as increase their ammo supply at various checkpoints along the way.Players will also have the option to solve puzzles to get additional loot as well as access to other areas of the map.The characters also have a magical amulet which allows them to open various objects but also allows them to collect energy from dispatched enemies and use it against them when a sufficient amount has been collected.The levels are very engaging and include tombs, dig sites, market places, and other locales which also have plenty to keep players engaged.Rebellion has announced that a 5th playable character will be available at launch and there are at least three other players coming down the road.There is a big difference in character play as I enjoy having the rapid-fire approach of a Machine Gun but some may find the single shot rifle or a thunderous shotgun more to their liking. I found the shotgun to be a devastating weapon but having to reload after two shots makes it harder when playing on your own as you can get overwhelmed fast.The variety of enemies is good as undead walkers do make up the bulk of the enemy force but there are Mummies, Pirates, and armor clad guardians who take a bit of damage before they go down.The game also has an interesting feature in that there is an announcer who narrates the action and chapters with witty quips that gives the game a sense of the old-style action serials of old.Players looking to take a break from the campaign can play a Horde mode where enemies come in waves and players must use gold to purchase access to other areas and weapons. There is also a score mode where players have to race through a level causing as much mayhem as they can along the way.Strange Brigade is a very fun game that once I started to play I could not put it down. I actually completed the game solo and now look forward to playing the campaign with a team so we can try other tactics and explore other areas.The graphics and sound of the game are solid and it moves along at a very crisp pace which allows players to have fast action and smooth movements.I am really looking forward to see what DLC will follow as I absolutely love this game as Strange Brigade is a winning and fun adventure that is not to be missed.4.5 stars out of 5

I wasn’t expecting a huge amount from Strange Brigade, but what I got was a really enjoyable experience both offline and online. This was a pleasant surprise, as generally I’m not someone who would usually play online if I can avoid it. The fact that even I preferred playing online speaks volumes about Rebellion’s efforts in making a game that’s best played in co-op. There are a few things that could have been done better, but nothing that can’t be overlooked. This is one of my favourite multiplayer games in a very long time.

Rebellion’s new co-op shooter is overall solid and enjoyable, although the fun doesn’t always come from what you may expect – collecting rare figurines and even Hathor’s Ladle (yes, that’s an artifact!) can be more gratifying than shooting hordes of the dead. The game is definitely a league apart from similar titles, and its unique and distinctive 1930's feel contributes to making it fun for anyone.

I really enjoyed my time with Strange Brigade. It was both fun and exciting to see what the next level had in store for me, and having some buddies to play it with made it even more fun. Even if you don’t have friends to play it with, the random joined player can’t really mess you up and playing solo isn’t a bad deal either. While some of the levels can get a little long in the tooth, it was a fun ride that I think any action shooter fan will enjoy and get a lot out of even for only 8-10 hours. Give it a shot. You may even chuckle at some of the narrator’s jokes.

Whilst certain types of puzzles are repeated in every level. There is such a variety of puzzles that they never get boring. In fact, sometimes the familiarity of a puzzle is welcomed.The main issue I had with Strange Brigade was that starting out the controls felt extremley loose. This is something I got used to over time and it became less of an issue. To begin with, it was a taxing experience but I soon adapted.On top of all this outside of missions, you can buy new guns. Upgrade the ones you have with magical relics found in levels. These relics add massively powerful attributes to your guns such as freezing monsters, setting them on fire, breaking armour and life steal.As well as the story mode of the game there is also Horde mode and Score Attack. two modes I have admittedly not tried by the time of writing this review simply because I have been so absorbed in the story.Overall ThoughtsStrange Brigade is a breath of fresh air in a time of dark, serious games. Not only is it fun but there is a fantastic and complex game beneath the humour which is rare to find. Every aspect of the game is beautifully crafted.The Story is intriguing and feels like a real archaeological adventure. The characters are well defined with there own unique traits. Level design is so big, sprawling and twisting that you can easily get turned around. One thing I loved was when playing a level back through. I often forgot how to open a door to get to a certain puzzle because there was that much to remember.Strange Brigade allows me to relive all those childhood Indiana Jones fantasies with my dry adult humour intact. The presentation side of the game gets a lot of things right and both the visuals and sound design make the gameplay a very immersive experience. I thoroughly enjoyed the gameplay because there are quite a few different elements in play at the same time and these elements combine together flawlessly. There are lots of weapons and lots of enemies you can use these weapons on and I’m pleased to say that defeating these enemies never got boring. The puzzles that are present in the game are pretty creative and they do a good job of breaking up the usual gameplay. Sometimes the shooting mechanics in the game didn’t feel as smooth and responsive as they should have been. It can be a little repetetive when played on your own so I do recommend that you play the game with others. Does Strange Brigade do enough to get a recommendation from me? All in all I’ve been following Strange Brigade’s development quite closely over the last few month’s because from the moment I first saw it I was intrigued by its uniqueness and it looked like a game that was right up my alley. Thankfully after sinking a number of hours into the game it’s quite clear that Strange Brigade has had a lot of love and effort placed into it and when the game gets into full flow you end up having a fantastic experience. A thrilling adventure game that is sure to please, Strange Brigade does almost everything right. There were too many things I liked about the game to mention (graphics and sound are also top notch). This isn’t Rebellion’s first third-person shooter, and the growth of quality has increased with maturity. The Egyptian theme is everywhere, from the menu system to the excellent narration. It’s as if you were playing an action movie, with the brigade seeming to have their own personal agendas that happen to coincide with saving the world. After the credits roll, you’re more than likely going to go back to the menu and continue playing.

Puzzles seem designed to slow you but never halt you and thus they aren't that interesting. The same can be said for repetitive objectives and visuals. It reads like a laundry list of problems, and yet it remains a lot of fun anyway thanks to strong enemy variety and a frantic pace to the action. If you're looking for a co-op shooter that doesn't demand a lot of you other than good aim and a few good friends, Strange Brigade is a smart choice.

Strange Brigade is the rare title that manages to construct completely satisfying single- and multiplayer experiences in the exact same space. In this age of cloned games, I look for games with a difference. This is such a game. If its anywhere like the snipe series this will be tremendous fun and long game.

Strange Brigade is a solid third-person shooter that doesn’t bring anything fresh to the genre besides its charming, over-the-top campiness which makes the game shine and not take itself too seriously. The gameplay is nothing new, but everything is executed seamlessly, and the game is relatively quite enjoyable minus a few frustrating hordes of inconvenient undead.

Whether tackling it solo or with a group of chums, it's a title very much geared towards repeated playthroughs, which should be enough to give fellow relic hunters, Nathan Drake and Lara Croft, a run for their money. Strange Brigade is Rebellion's dynamic and content-rich new IP. Although Strange Brigade doesn't shake TPS genre up, it's well executed, shootings are enjoyable and a wide variety of enemies and puzzles. With its impeccable artistic style, Strange Brigade is interesting and pleasant enough to give it a chance.

A season pass promises new characters and campaign missions. I can only hope they also bring along much needed variety to the gameplay.

Strange Brigade, with its pulp magazine taste, is a good action co-op to play among most demanding titles. Unfortunately, the amount of content at day one is limited, holding back the score, although Rebellion has announced additional campaigns and new characters to expand the game after launch.

Strange Brigade definitely took me by surprise as it's one of the most fun-filled cooperative online games out there. The amount of variety makes the gameplay constantly enjoyable and working together with friends is super-satisfying.
