Summary

Set against the backdrop of the Sengoku Jidai (Warring States) period from the 15th to the beginning of the 17th century, Shogun: Total War is a real-time tactics and turn-based strategy game with a strong focus on historical authenticity.

Players assume control of a daimyo (leader) of a contemporary Japanese clan and attempt to conquer the nation and claim the title of supreme Shogun, the undisputed military ruler of Japan. The gameplay consist of two parts – a turn-based Risk-style mode on a 2D campaign map of Japan where the player must recruit, manage and move their armies, conduct diplomacy, trade, espionage, sabotage and assassinations.

This 2D map however ultimately serves to provide context for the 3D real-time battles that make up the main part of the game and occur whenever your army crosses into enemy territory or two opposing forces meet on the campaign map.

Storyline

Japan 1542 - A nation divided by warfare. One determined warlord will master the Art Of War and lead his Samurai troops in a brutal quest to unite the country. He will rise to become Japan's supreme ruler. He will rise to become SHOGUN.

The sense of gaming experience is so overload in this one. On that day this games captured my mind with atmoshpere and ambience. 9/10 easily.

a great real time strategy game that has huge scale battles of epic and cinematic preparations. Great to just sit back and watch the cinematic battles pal out. Also incorporates some light empire building that is solid but nothing innovational.

I started with this one and played every Total War game since.Won't give it a 10, because the game isn't flawless and even for 2000 is a bit limited in strategic options (no fleets, pretty insignificant castles etc.), but I give it a very well-earned 9.

Wow, just wow, this game is REALLY good. Of course its lacking some of the features of later total war games (such as battles being playableWow, just wow, this game is REALLY good.
