A POP ALBUM VIDEO GAME
Sayonara Wild Hearts is a euphoric music video dream about being awesome, riding motorcycles, skateboarding, dance battling, shooting lasers, wielding swords, and breaking hearts at 200 mph.

As the heart of a young woman breaks, the balance of the universe is disturbed. A diamond butterfly appears in her dreams and leads her through a highway in the sky, where she finds her other self: the masked biker called The Fool.

Travelling through futuristic cities, dark forests, and electric deserts, The Fool sets out to find the harmony of the universe, hidden away in the hearts of Little Death and her star crossed allies; Dancing Devils, Howling Moons, Stereo Lovers and Hermit 64.

This game flows with grace, it is not punishing with your mistakes, and the overall experience is not just sensory but emotional. The story can be interpreted differently by each player in the details, but the overall message is one of overcoming a hardship and moving on, which is relatable by almost anyone. This game is to video games what Interstella 5555 is to movies. Short, but I found myself coming back to it for an hour of feel-good gameplay. It does what it intends to do perfectly, and that is why I give it a 10 out of 10- because I cannot think of a way it could be a better version of itself.

I beat the game in a little under an hour and there were some levels that I felt would have been fun if they were not so short such as the night drift level. The music is by far the best part of it.The game has a handful of fundamental UX issues that REALLY take away from the game and prevent it from being one of my favorites. It's still something I would recommend but it's not on the top of any lists. The game tends to break your momentum a lot in a few ways which make it so much less enjoyable. One of the major ways it does this is having you sent back to the level select between each level. There are some more minor ways that it does this kind of thing and it just constantly takes away from the experience. The game is certainly a good experience but it could be SO much better with some UX changes and some more thought in the game design and level design.Despite all that the art style and the music really pull this game ahead. It may not be my number one pick of 2019, however, it's still on the upper side of the list. With the issues I had complained about it would be a contender for the top spot.Edit:So after playing the game a bit more, I was able to get over the UX issues and it becomes a lot more fun after a playthrough or two. The UX issues should still be addressed as they certainly took away from my initial enjoyment of the game and I am sure they did the same for others. But once you've played a bit the game certainly grows on you a lot more.

Sayonara Wild Hearts is a music game with elements of arcade, mobile games and with an overload of neon and 80s vibes. This game fueled my imagination, helped me see what is possible, feel the music, feel passion, feel a game in the gami-est form I can imagine. Boy! I can't get enough of the glorious music and awesome, fast paced, trippy levels. You feel awesome if you're mastering the levels after getting close to be overwhelmed and amazed while playing them the first time. My game of 2019. I love every second of this game, every level, all details. It's polished to the moon and back and I can only recommend to play.
