I remember playing it on LAN at the gaming club with my friends, I remember playing in from home on 30kbps Dial Up all weekend nights with pings around 300. This is by far the best multiplayer melee game I have played. These days there are great alternatives like Chivalry, but this 3rd person game mechanics are just so well done that I can't help but compare everything else to it. The dodging coming from it's Unreal Engine coupled with precise hit detection makes it the most skill based melee combat I've seen, without crazy combos you have to remember and be quick enough to perform - you just need to swing your weapon through your opponent's body and try to avoid their blade. And you can also throw a huge hammer at their heads. I know people are not too fond of its re-release on Steam but it's still the same game and it is still great, the only issue is online player base.

The entire game is there. Even though Steam is pushing the multiplayer aspect, the single player game is available. Everything from the original is available. I have not found any new content. However, I think there may be additional multiplayer maps and items. In normal Steam fashion, there are achievements to be acquired. You still cannot escape out of the very long intro to the game. This was one of the major complaints when Rune was originally released. Fortunately, with the more powerful computers, it won't take quite as long. If you have a moderately spec'd gaming PC or laptop, feel free to put the graphics options as high as you can. The game uses original textures and does not increase polygon counts.I thoroughly enjoyed this game when it first came out. The single player is a worthy play through. The multiplayer is a challenging and brutal up close combat. If you liked knife/axe wars in Team Fortress or other shooter games, this one will fit in nicely. It is disturbingly satisfying to take out an enemy with their own arm (especially if they've been pwning you).
