Hmm I admit I was surprised with the variety each racing track has and this did bring a little bit of enjoyment. There’s a solid amount of unlock-able items you can obtain during your time with the game which in turn does give the game some replay ability. There are a few unique and interesting aspects that make it different from certain game’s in the genre which was a nice touch. There is nothing that stands out in both the visuals and sound design and this did make the gameplay lose a bit of fun and enjoyability. The weapons you can use against other racers are very lacklustre and fail to pack a punch. While the racing physics can be fun at times there is a lot wrong with them as well which means the fun quickly turns into frustration. In terms of modes and content there isn’t really much for you to get to grips with and it’s made even worse by the lack of variety. When you think of kart racers you automatically get Mario Kart in your head because without a doubt it’s the king of the kart racers. That being said there are some very good alternatives out there as well, unfortunately Rally Racers for the most part isn’t one of them. Don’t get me wrong it isn’t the worst kart racing game I’ve ever played before and it does offer a unique spin on things in certain areas, but in the end it just has too many shortcomings that ultimately hold it back. For me the biggest drawback of this game is its racing physics. Racing never feels fluid and you never feel like you have full control of the vehicle which is very frustrating to say the least. Another thing that frustrated me was the lack of weapons available to you and the weapons that are available are very lacklustre, which was of course very disappointing. In terms of content there isn’t very much for you to get to grips with and even though there is a nice variety of tracks to race on that’s pretty much where the variety stops. At the end of the day then Rally Racers doesn’t do enough to get a recommendation from me because the fun and enjoyability is short-lived and the shortcomings are quite evident which makes returning back to the game time and time again a difficult prospect.

Rally Racers seeks to mix up the kart racing formula and actually presents some fun ideas but core gameplay is lacking just enough that the game doesn't quite fulfill its potential.

The overall racing experience falls flat on its face primarily due to the cheap and nasty in-game physics that make the vehicles handle like trucks.
