I also encountered a bug that made it unable to move my character and had to restart at a checkpoint. The whole game felt like it was targeted at a younger audience.The game is a walking simulator with easy puzzles and collectibles that piece together the backstory something that i generaly dislike in games and that for me artificially drags out the playtime. I prefer games that explain their story through normal gameplay and doesnt hide it behind collectibles.On a positive note: I liked the art style and music and the beginning of the game had me interested.

I'll begin with the bad: Some of the other reviews have mentioned experiencing several glitches throughout the game where their followers would get "stuck" in places, forcing a restart. I have experienced this as well, but only once. I found that if you actually wait for your followers to finish their animations, then you shouldn't have any problems. The second thing is that the beginning may seem slow for some (it did for me). This does *not* mean the beginning is bad, by all means - but the more you play, the better it gets! The last thing that I would consider somewhat negative is the ending. Without spoiling anything, the ending is definitely... interesting, and perhaps confusing to some. It wasn't the worst I've seen in a story, but it sure did leave me wanting more and feeling somewhat incomplete inside (sounds cheesy, right?).Now for the good. It's a story game, right? How's the story? The story was awesome! I didn't know what to expect going in, but despite the slow beginning, it still managed to hook me from the very first scene, and kept me guessing during my entire playthrough. Whenever I would take a break from the game to do some "adulting", I would just sit there and wonder what was going to happen next. The gameplay is great as well, and fitting for the type of game. Throughout the story, it gives you 2-3 dialogue options in its many, many conversations, allowing you to choose what option you think is best. If also offers several chances to make your decision between two (and sometimes more) "major" choices, which will determine the way your story will unfold, and while the general plot is the same in the big picture, the devil is in the details. The decisions you make will determine what type of ending the story gets. I saved the best for last: the voice acting. It is brilliant in this game! The young men and women that played the voice of the game's characters made the entire story so convincing, believable, and smooth. I actually had goosebumps during some of the scenes near the end! Between the voice acting, the solid plot, and the ability to make my own decisions really made me grow somewhat attached to its characters.All in all, the game is great. I got it for free during Xbox's "Games With Gold" in September, but I would definitely tell someone to pay the $20 for the game if they asked. I will most definitely buy more games from Night School Studio if I ever see them in the future.

The music throughout the whole game is amazing and really makes the game a completely different experience as one time you could feel happy and not worried and then complete tone switch also the ending is very good as it does rap up with things also with a kinda telltale ending showing the choices you made. The only thing is the *continue timeline* at the end could have more reason to play as it is very repetitive as not enough changes are made to keep the player playing. But overall fantastic game and is worth buying even the price is a little high for the time span it offers.

I even love the painterly background.If you get to play this game, don't play it once and then stop. Play it again right away. The supernatural stuff you saw during your first playthrough "bleed through" to your second "timeline" and the story goes deeper still. Not to mention that you can get multiple endings based on your play style. ;) Those hidden trophies are there for a reason.I just love this game so much despite the massive bugs I got, but I'm a full time video game tester, and I attribute most of these bugs to my mac just being too slow. I don't generally game on my mac so it's forgiven. Give this game a try, it's a diamond in the rough.

And the most important thing is a conversation system that brings to life lived-in characters actually talking to each other instead of struggling to emerge from a turn-based dialogue game. No, it feels, as I said, like Oxenfree’s writers had written themselves into a corner, and figured a mostly unexplained offscreen resolution was the only way to get out of it. If you’re able to overlook that and focus on the first 95% or so that’s highly satisfying, you should still go for it, since the journey up to that point is extremely well-done, but if you want any sort of closure, be aware before you go into it that this game’s ending is going to drive you nuts.

For players who click with these characters, Oxenfree offers between four and six hours of walking around and listening to them hash out issues in their lives. I congratulate the developers on the quality and production of the dialogue, but as a whole, Oxenfree is a weightless slip of a game that left no lasting impressions.
