Octopath Traveler

Know somebody who might be like this game?

Summary

A role-playing game from the Bravely Default team is being developed exclusively for the Nintendo Switch. They have brought a new world to life through a mix of CG, pixel art, and "HD-2D" visuals.

Storyline

Embark on a vast new role-playing adventure as one of eight travelers, all with their own origins, paths, and goals. Where to begin? Who to team up with? Where to go next? Only you can decide.

Each traveler can use a distinct Path Action, a specialized way of achieving objectives and interacting with people you encounter. The warrior can "challenge" people to a duel, whereas the dancer can "allure" others to follow her, even into battle!

The best thing about this game is the secret/true ending where all 8 stories are combined and the characters share an ending. The difficulty of the game is enough to challenge you, especially because of the final boss, and you will need to understand each class/profession. Finally, we recommend that you complete all the secondary stories, to unlock the true ending and prepare for the last boss.A game that when you complete it 100% (all the stories and the true ending) you will love.

A good retro JRPG. If this game had been released 20 years ago it might have been considered a mild classic next to other Square games. ItA good retro JRPG. If this game had been released 20 years ago it might have been considered a mild classic next to other Square games. It has an interesting combat system based on pairing characters with sub-jobs, and finding and exploiting weaknesses for enemies. The challenge of the game is inconsistent. Most of the game past chapter 2 is too easy. Some of the the end-bosses make up for it though by being quite difficult. Also like most JRPGs, the dialogue is overlong, mawkish, and reads like it was written for 12 year-olds. I almost have to deduct a point just for the endless bloviating filled with after-school special moralizing. The characters in this game just won't shut up, and take every opportunity to pontificate with trite dialog.All-in-all, Octopath Traveler successfully recreates the gameplay of nostalgic titles such as Cronotrigger and Xenogears, but doesn't capture the story-telling that made those games truly great.

On paper, this game should be a strong 8 to low 9. Only rating this as 0 b/c no way it deserves an 8.5 user score. One of, if not the best OSTOn paper, this game should be a strong 8 to low 9. Only rating this as 0 b/c no way it deserves an 8.5 user score. One of, if not the best OST I've heard in video games in general. The graphics are trendsetting while still paying homage to the old JRPG ways. Despite this, so much is done wrong. Key things. I don't play a JRPG for a linear and story I'm thrown into. I wouldn't pick up a traveller to see a new story. This game needs a remastered + remaked ASAP. Full voice-acting, more in game artwork (if the game was themed around those fantastic drawings, imagine how much better this game would be), portrait models and a more thought out and interesting stories. Also it's extremely confusing on what to do - I feel like the game has no main quests/story. Why am I picking up other travellers and seeing their prologue too when I can just do that picking them at the start? If I was picking them up, why can't there be any unique relations/dialogue things. Many QOL improvements needed as well - random combat events are annoying af and makes me want to stop playing - I think cut it out entirely or maybe in game monster sprites - boost the exp rate/hp which would make the long waiting in combat more bearable.

Tremendously beautiful. Turn-based combat RPG with a love for the genre more than evident, in a game designed to captivate you: music,Tremendously beautiful. Turn-based combat RPG with a love for the genre more than evident, in a game designed to captivate you: music, enchanting HD-2D stages and its 8 stories in which, whether you like it or not, you end up entering. The only downside may be the cutscenes, which use the same game scenario, sometimes you can even see a chest opened by you during a story flashback, which is a bit disappointing.I do not put 10 for this reason.
