Northgard is one of the prettiest titles in the genre, and with a very addicting gameplay loop, players are sure to spend several dozen hours to it.

Had probably around 20 hours worth of gameplay if I’m not mistaken and the campaign was good. Controls are really good on switch! Cons - online multiplayer literally has no switch players and you’ll be waiting ages to play a game. Maybe they should let us cross play with PC players? Really disappointed with the lack of players online. Other than that buy this game on sale I got it for £12.50! Highly recommend!

I absolutely loved the campaign to recover the horn was fun and couldnt stop playing to see where it ended up, With most games like this i gave it a 9 because i feel like they could have developed more campaigns to play in this style without breaking any kind of budget.

I thought it's important to mention where I'm coming from, and that I'm not hardcore into RTS games.Northgard looked pretty simple in that regard (in a good way), kind of what a strategy game would look like on a Nintendo switch.Well, the problem is that it's mostly about defending your base from wave after wave of enemies landing on your island. Even with the upgrade system, it gets tedious after a while without variety. Like for example you taking the fight to the enemy, or setting ambushes at sea. Overall, I didn't finish the game, it was fun for a short while, but if you are not much into the basic premise of the game, there isn't much else that will sustain the interest.

I don't think mirror matches should be a thing in an RTS. 8 different clans should be the very least, 12 (for example) would problably be wiser to at least allow some flexibility. I am waiting for the base game (DLC excluded !) to contain a decent number of clans to change my red score into a green score and write a more extensive review. Until then, the red score is a sanction for asking 5 dollars for one single new clan !

Northgard is a great RTSThe game main focus is on colonizing new territories and resources balancing, although you need to fight for almostNorthgard is a great RTSThe game main focus is on colonizing new territories and resources balancing, although you need to fight for almost every territory against creeps or other players.There are 11 clans, 5 of them are DLCs with most of the clans have same units.Mainly, the differences between the non-DLC clans is the bonuses and special abilities (some clans have unique units / buildings).The DLC clans are more different one from another and from the non-DLC clans, by having unique mechanisms like own resources, slaves, sacrifice system and etc.The game skirmish has a lot of customization options and with the maps being generated randomly (map starts undiscovered).There is only 1 campaign, shared by the 6 non-DLC clan, with a total of 11 missions.There is also a conquest campaign, where you choose a clan from all the 11 clans, and you have 11 missions, usually like skirmish but with special rules, and you get bonus for each mission (the maps are generated randomly).

I think that's a good amount of time for a single session but also short enough to drop in and out and not forget where you are. I only experienced graphical issues towards the end of games where the map was full and there was a lot going on. Aside from that I have no complaints and I am happy with the £10 I spent in the sale on this game.If you like Civ games but want a shorter game with a more RTS style then this is the game for you.

If you are a fan of the RTS world, then you’ll get a lot out of this epic adventure, with hundreds of hours of gameplay more than possible.

Northgard is perfect for those looking for a quick real-time strategy experience and also for those who want to try this type of games for the first time, although its bad design of the HUD is a negative point. Beyond that, Northgard would need a little more depth, variety and game options for the most veteran players.

Northgard on the Nintendo Switch may be an indie game but that doesn't mean it's not an ambitious work. On the contrary, this immense real-time strategy game offers an almost endless value with its colossal exploration and empire-building mechanics and with an exquisite presentation and a perfectly crafted handheld experience, Northgard is essential for everyone who likes a good, enveloping RTS and anyone beyond that circle as well.

Northgard certainly is not a bad game by any means, though I felt myself wanting it to be more of a game. Whether simplified for console release or not, I found myself craving more depth throughout my time in this Norse world.

I love what they've done with this side of it.Unfortunately performance on the Switch is disappointing. Low frame rate when moving camera, stutters, and there are no shadows, not even blob shadows! This is pretty sad in my opinion as the game has very simplistic graphics and I believe the Switch could easily handle it if it were optimised well.Developers Shiro Games were were reasonably quick to patch some of the crash issues but they are yet to do anything to improve optimisation, and a few crashes still exist. (I've experienced crashes on both loading and saving games since the patch.) They seem eager to gather feedback from players and improve the game.On the flipside, I was really disappointed in how Shiro have been constantly advertising the new Northgard Conquest content update... but never mentioned anywhere that this update actually would not be available on console versions. It makes me sad that they were not open in their advertising about Conquest would be available, and show so little consideration for players who have been made to feel left out. (Yesterday they tweeted, "So who's enjoying Conquest so far?" Well, obviously not console gamers...) And unlike the performance issues, they don't seem very responsive to questions / comments about this issue on social media. It seems possible that the console versions will never have the same content as on PC.Overall it's a fun game, but it's cheaper and has more content now in the PC version, and as I've mentioned the graphics are terrible on Switch. You may wish to go for the PC version instead, although I'm opting to keep mine as I prefer to game on Switch and I'm hoping that in future the game will be improved with the same content as on PC.

Northgard is a fantastic, well put together title. I found it to be challenging enough to keep me at it, but not over the top and unbalanced. Vikings conquering, smashing, and crushing enemies is a lot of fun! Get this game if you’re an RTS fan, it’s a must-have.

Those with the patience of a Norse war chief will no doubt feel right at home in Northgard. There’s an impressive amount of granular detail to get lost in, allowing you play to your strengths. The visuals are nice and colourful, and if it gets its hooks in, you’ll have a title to play for a long time yet. But fiddly UI, unclear systems and a slow pace will likely put off as many as it attracts.

Northgard is a great RTS that finds its place between newcomers and veteran players. To lead your vikings to the victory is a real pleasure, and when you start building and conquering, you won't want to stop playing.

The game is an amazing top down strategy game that has you run your own tribe and fight other tribes to death. I got some massive nostalgia trips playing this game because it reminded me of classics such as supreme commander 2 for the Xbox 360, the controls of Northgard are quite simple to learn it only took mew about 1 game and 20 minutes to get used to them. the multiplayer is amazing on this game allowing for up to 4 friends to battle it out and destroy each other in a fun and strategic way. This game has much to offer in such a small game I can genuinely see myself playing this game for another 4-5 hours easily and still having fun. So I highly recommend you get this game if you are into endless fun with your friends.

I have a while to go before I could definitively say whether people should buy it or not, but the concept and what I have played so far point in the right direction.
