Mario Party Superstars

Know somebody who might be like this game?

Summary

Calling all Superstars! Mario Party is back with 5 classic boards from the Nintendo 64 Mario Party games. Frosting meets flowers as you race to get the most stars (and sabotage your opponents) on the Peach’s Birthday Cake board from the original Mario Party game. Or watch the countdown that unleashes Bowser Coin Beam and hold onto those coins on the Space Land board. The tides can turn quickly in Mario Party, so stay vigilant, partygoers. This and all other modes can be played online, too!

Storyline

Try your hand at a Superstar collection of minigames from throughout the Mario Party series. Whether you are saving up coins for stars in board game mode or practicing in free play, there is nothing quite like being the last one standing in Mushroom Mix-Up or Shy Guy Says. All minigames are played with button controls, so you can stick to the Joy-Con controller or bust out the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller or a Nintendo Switch Lite system.

With a great collection of classic mini-games and a surprising level of challenge, even for experienced players, there’s plenty to love about Mario Party Superstars. While it can be unfair at times, the randomness of the game keeps emotions high, spicing it up for everyone and making each new game fresh.

You're not even "lucky" if you land on one because there's just so many of them! As a result, everyone always has enough coins to buy stars and items. Other than that, the game feels great!Local multiplayer is lots of fun. You'll definitely have a good time with all those minigames! Surprisingly, online works pretty well (considering the bad reputation Nintendo's online service has). There's some lag now and then, but at least it's playable. The stickers are also a nice touch! The design is amazing, although I wish there were more boards. Don't get me wrong, having 5 boards is definitely an improvement from the last entry. However, I believe that 6 boards would be ideal. I also wish the characters wore different clothes depending on the board, like in the original series. As a matter of fact, the content is somewhat lacking. For example, I've found it way too easy to reach max level and collect all the items from Toad's shop. Once you've collected everything, there are basically no more ways to spend your gold coins.Hopefully we'll get future updates with more content, such as boards, minigames, stickers and other unlockables... oh, and less lucky spaces!Overall, excellent game and perhaps the best Mario Party entry, IMO.

With Mario Party Superstars alongside Super Mario Party, the Nintendo Switch has two different but great series installments. While Superstars would benefit from more boards, it’s a charming nostalgia-laden trip with far-reaching multiplayer appeal for family and friends of all ages. It’s also replayable as ever, with online play, achievements, and unlockables.

But once I realized it was about the original good mini games and game boards from the N64, GameCube and all other Mario Parties, I had to get it! The last Mario Party I didn’t even buy because my distaste for the one on the Wii U was so great. The fact that Nintendo was kind enough to bring this back is awesome! You have control over which games you play how many turns on a game board, if you want to play online or offline. I’ve played all the boards and even a few of them twice now. I’ve only been playing offline so I can get good at those games again before I even think of going online and playing with people!
