For gamers who haven’t purchased a new Madden title in a few years (and refuse to spend time hunting for a new console) this is a solid, thorough sports sim that still brings a wealth of gameplay to the table.

Madden 22 takes some leaps in certain modes such as Franchise, but takes some gigantic steps backward or maintains inconsistent levels of gameplay in others. While Face of the Franchise loses much of its “underdog story” vibe, Franchise has taken steps forward, while for every MUT improvement, there’s a new on-the-field annoyance. Another year stuck in place, then, but there’s still fun to be had for those looking to score plenty of in-game touchdowns – just don’t expect any huge yardage gains for the franchise as a whole here.

That being said the game mode that gets the most attention gets worse every single year. Everything is dependent on animations. Now I quit playing head to head 2 years ago because cheese and meta imbalances. running the same code since 07. Solo battles have turned to a rage fest as players with 5 less speed are now faster than you. I can’t do it anymore it’s terrible. Save your $$$$Now solo batid
Madden NFL 22 makes the same mistakes the franchise has had in recent years and its successes are not enough to reverse the score against.
A new year, a new part, but it is not really groundbreaking. The game has too few innovations and improvements compared to the previous part and the game also suffers from technical defects. In addition, the performance isn’t optimal on PS5. But credits where credit’s due, the improved Franchise mode is a great step forward, but corrupt savefiles are a shame though.
Positives: better than madden 21, franchise mode is improved (thanks NHL team), the game can now in fact boot up and play, you might not havePositives: better than madden 21, franchise mode is improved (thanks NHL team), the game can now in fact boot up and play, you might not have players on the field but the game will in fact load now, breaks normal laws of physics, best at being the worst (never been a real problem though), backyard football is in fact back with 0 penalties a game, there's a reason "madden logic" is a term and its back and exceeds other maddens, in franchise it gives everyone an opportunity to play every position even if your a stubborn coach and expect Aaron Rodgers to only play QBNegatives: Gameplay is at best the worst its ever been, what is a referee? (I've never seen one before), see positives
If we have to compare Madden NFL 22 to one of the two quarterbacks on its cover, the latter is more Tom Brady than Patrick Mahomes: he becomes thinner and more complete over time, but still idles like his last years. The game is running out of steam from a technical point of view, and the difference between the next-gen and the PS4 / ONE versions is not so obvious on the visual, especially as the online and solo bugs are still also common. On the other hand, Madden does not fall into the trap that made Opus 21 a failure, namely to give a second youth to Franchise and Career modes via cool additions (Momentums, coaching staff talent tree ... ). For the rest, we will wait for the real "slap" episode that the new generation of consoles deserves in the years to come.

The addition of the momentum bar gives a new gaming experience to Madden NFL 22, but it's not an adjustment attractive enough to think EA Tiburon did a solid job. Graphically we have a game worthy of the next generation of consoles, but in practice it fails. It's time to offer a title with better physics instead of default animations.
Madden NFL 22 is another Madden game, with not many new features to warrant a new price label of $59.99. If you do not like NFL Football, you will not like this game. While known NFL commentators such as Rich Eisen lend their talent to this entry, it is wasted by being overshadowed by nameless voices called ‘coach’. Ultimately, if you own Madden NFL 21 and don’t NEED to play online, you could possibly skip this entry.
If you haven’t picked up Madden in a few years, there’s nothing glaringly wrong with this year’s release and I would recommend it. On the other side of the coin, if you’re a diehard and you play every year and might even have the free next gen release from last season, I’d say this year is a safe skip and just download this season’s roster.
I have been a subscriber to "Origin Premiere" and then "EA Play Pro" since their debut. I have always thought it was a good deal since II have been a subscriber to "Origin Premiere" and then "EA Play Pro" since their debut. I have always thought it was a good deal since I typically purchase the yearly Madden, and I would get to try out any games EA put out throughout the year. I have canceled my subscription.Madden 22 is such an utter disappointment in so many ways. The graphics, if updated, are negligible. The franchise mode interface is exactly the same, except it clearly copy and pasted the UI from NHL 21 and simply changed the text for NFL. Lazy.Glitches and bugs galore. I have, several times, had a player get injured and the game lock up and now allow me to substitute another player in or keep the injured player in the game. I have to force "crash" the game with alt+f4. I have had several instances of the game simply closing itself both mid-game or in a menu.In franchise mode, I was playing the Buccaneers that week, and the player to watch was Tom Brady. Pretty reasonable. Until I looked at the stats that were highlighted and it was tackles, sacks, and tackles for loss. Tom Brady plays Quarterback and is 45 years old, EA. I don't think he sees many snaps on defense anymore. The last point, I suppose, was announced. "Current gen" consoles will not have the "next gen" features of Madden 22. Okay, somewhat reasonable. The Playstation 4 and Xbox One (even the "X" variant) are nowhere near as powerful as the Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. However, I did not assume this would leak into the PC version of the game. My computer is more than twice as powerful as any console available. You're saying it can't handle your "next gen" updates? Squiggly lines for routes and some cutscenes? Really? Okay, so your logic is that not every has a powerful computer. Hardware detection is pretty commonplace in most games. Even simpler, there is a "Settings" menu that already exists in the game. Yes, you put that there. It would seem pretty simple to have a selection asking if you would like to implement the "next gen" elements with a warning that some PCs may not be able to handle it.I just find it very hard to believe that one of, if not THE biggest AAA game developer in the world can't put together a team that can functionally assemble a simulation NFL game. You have had the exclusive license since 2006. You have a monopoly on anyone who would want to work on this type of game. Let them do their job, EA. I do not blame the developers, I blame the publisher here. Madden has clearly turned into nothing more than a yearly cash grab for the higher ups at EA.Pathetic.

Please explain how a company cannot make time for this when they 1.2 billion last year on MUT alone? The game is the exact same copy and paste from Madden 21, and Madden 21 was awful as well. The franchise mode has virtually no updates and you can see beneath the new skin the game is running the old model. They just pasted new colors on top of the old model and called it a day. No physics based engine when football is primarily physics based. The scenarios are few and lackluster, the most interesting being; Eagles signing Colin K and benching Hurts; Khalil Mack retiring during his prime by game 3 from the bears. The exact same celebrations/animations/commentary/cinematography as always. The game play is somehow worse, defenders stand around like deer in head lights, receivers will let balls fly off their heads. WR's will catch the ball mid air to only volleyball it 25 feet down the field for an interception. You can tell all around 5 minutes went into this mode. Forget FOF, go watch a youtube video for 15 minutes of a play through and you will probably have a better experience. Receivers do not populate, auto sets difficulty to rookie, jags will draft you but call you Trevor Lawrence. The cut scenes Resident Evil 1 on the PS1. Nothing you do matters at all, the choices and outcomes are entirely predetermined. The entirety of the game itself is predetermined, the animations, the catch rate, the engine itself is not made for football. I'm very happy to see the 4 billion spent well, hats off to you guys
Madden is a billion dollar franchise that has grown content. Thanks to its exclusivity deals, EA takes zero risks and fumbles each year providing us rehashed versions of previous entries. Madden NFL 22 is no different. Meager improvements are outweighed by series fatigue. Instead of focusing on giving us polished gameplay mechanics and an improved Franchise Mode, EA's focus is divided into unwelcome modes like Face The Franchise and The Yard leading to an overall incomplete and broken experience.

Literally Madden 21 with more glitches (somehow) than ever. It’s a disgrace that EA is the only company able to make an NFL simulation video game.

Gameplay is slightly better. I’m afraid this is the best EA can do with this engine. It’s always going to be buggy no matter how nice it looks and what they implement. New interface looks decent and some improvement to franchise. Long way to go before they have the same depth other sports games have. Face of the franchise and the yard are a waste of resources. Ultimate team is an even bigger cash grab this year. It’s pay to win. Wait for the game to be free to play if you have gamepass. Or buy it on sale. Not worth $70. And ultimate team isn’t worth your time or money. Update It’s worst then I thought. Franchise doesn’t work. Modes that no one plays get updates while franchise is ignored yet again. Worst madden ever released. If they didn’t have the exclusive rights madden would become nba live.

This game has not improved since they switched over to the Frostbite engine. There are more bugs than the entire cast of A Bug's Life. Gameplay is animation based so the events through a game are scripted. This game really should be a free-to-play game since they make most of their money through MUT (Madden Ultimate Team) anyways.EA really doesn't care about the football community. The NFL also needs to be help accountable for exclusively licensing their brand to this company.
Madden 22 has begun to address some major issues, and while it hasn’t fixed or updated everything, the dynamic on-field abilities and improved game modes make the future look a little brighter for the franchise.
The gameplay is still far from perfect, and I’d be interested to see how FIFA develops its machine-learning AI and if that would be accessible for Madden in the future. Hits can be brutally nasty using the Hit Stick and seeing different tackles, catches or sack-evading animations will leave you impressed.
Madden 22 is a significantly better game than Madden 21. The gameplay is smoother, franchise mode has more layers and MUT will remain a powerhouse. However, while each of the three areas deliver on one had, they each have a drawback. Also, modes like Face of the Franchise and The Yard fail to deliver in a way that moves the needle. The good outweighs the bad overall, and you’ll likely enjoy Madden if you’re a fan of the series. Still, it feels like we’re one year shy of delivering the kind of complete Madden release that really breaks new ground for the series.

There's still near 0 player logic. Blockers that give up on blocking, safeties not playing correctly against top tier receivers. This feels like another copy and paste year yet again for Madden. Save your money and wait for 2k to come out with their football game
It’s clear more time with next-gen hardware has paid off. Madden NFL 22 looks and feels like a step back in the right direction for the series. The core gameplay remains largely unchanged but almost every mode in this Madden experience sees a noticeable bump. Everything from the drastically improved facial animations to a robust new feature set in Franchise mode, Madden NFL 22 quickly erases the stench that Madden NFL 21 left at launch.

I have played madden since the Sega era. I dont understand how you can take features away and never build on top of them. The release of this game was broken. Defense can not defend commentary on FOTF did not make sense. Online head to head is horrible players do not appear sometimes. I am excited for the franchise mode with update coming. But before this game was released there should have been hold themselves accountable and stand on their Integrity and say we can not release this game, it is not ready I can not take consumers money for such a broken product. If this game stays how it is I will sadly never buy Madden ever again! I have forced myself for several days to play and try to have fun but unfortunately I can not. EA has a year to entertain me if they do not I will not play and save my $100 for another game. I give it a 1 because it is a game but nothing as I had expected.
All in all, Madden NFL 22 is ultimately disappointing. Even after all these years, it still feels like EA is coasting on its exclusive rights to NFL simulation football.

Gameplay isEA once again proves why they should NOT have the exclusive NFL license. Minimal changes to all game modes including franchise. Gameplay is horrible with the same animations that have been in the games for multiple years now. Just a sorry excuse for a Football game and another waste of $60 :/
With those yearly grievances aired, Madden NFL 22 is still a worthwhile pickup if you were on the fence. There's nothing that's painstakingly new in this year's release. However, next-gen technology elevates gameplay with more realistic player movements, while home field advantage is, finally, exactly that. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go draft Tim Tebow as my starting tight end.

However, there is still just so much wrong with this game. They copy and paste, but, do so badly. The game is sluggish, and it's do in part to errors like having the last several years background animation under the current animation. Hard to describe in a comment, but I'm sure you can find a video on it. Madden does the bare minimum, even the franchise interface is copy and pasted from the EA Sports NHL game. They did more this year because of how badly they were called out last year with a .2 user score. You can't create a team. There hasn't been new relocation teams for several years. It's just bad. On top of that, the developers mock and belittle customers. They block users that voice they don't like the game. EA sports will ignore critical responses.I just don't get it. I think the developers are lazy and don't care about the game they produce. I wish they would get some passionate people to work on their staff.

Zone defense is easily beatable player do not know how to shade routes correctly you can easily expose they same coverages over and over again and no adjustments are made. It is still completely animation dependent, a CB can be well behind a ER anf then morph into an animation. Where they are all of a sudden ahead of the receiver picking off the ball. Unlike titles like fifa and 2k madden simply does not feel like football it feels like a game where if you play madden well not football but madden you will dominate but if you utilize true football knowledge the game is simply not for you.

I always find a message within the selection of the Madden cover athlete, and in the picks of Tom Brady (arguably the greatest quarterback of all time) and Patrick Mahomes (arguably the most naturally gifted QB of all time), the message felt like a dual nod to Madden's age and enduring legacy as well as the promise of a bright future. However, even with the new stuff, I can't shake the sense of sameness in the experience of Madden NFL 22. The love of football keeps me playing, but there were no moments that made me think, "OK, we are in the next generation." That holds the series back while other games have passed it by. It looks like another year where "the leap" will have to wait — if it ever comes at all.
Madden NFL 22 injects some much needed improvements into a series that was dangerously close to growing stale. Coupled with some big changes to core modes, Madden NFL 22 elevates itself into one of the best from the long-running series.
