I have seen a lot of people online saying how they liked Fran Bow but didn’t like Little Misfortune due to the lack of puzzles. I canI have seen a lot of people online saying how they liked Fran Bow but didn’t like Little Misfortune due to the lack of puzzles. I can understand that because I have the opposite reaction for the same reasons. Fran Bow was a puzzle game that had a fantastic narrative while Little Misfortune is just a narrative game without the puzzles. I disliked the puzzles in Fran Bow so Little Misfortune was basically giving me what I enjoyed from Fran Bow and leaving out what I didn’t. The art style is great and carries onto the credits which is a unique one. The voice acting is fantastic. Both Misfortune and The Voice. There are moments which are sad, funny and in between and they nail all of them. Misfortune has a interesting accent and way of speaking which is a mix of child and adult. There are a lot of points which are pretty macabre, to the point where I surprised the developers took it as far as they did but was glad they did. The nightclub full of hamsters comes to mind. I don’t think the game would have grabbed a hold of me the way it did if they had of held back. The music was also very interesting as it made me think of an Eastern European disco and a cyberpunk synth type of vibe. There isn’t much in terms of “game play” here. Most of the game is you making choices and interacting with the environment to proceed. I don’t say this as a slight against the game because the story was great. Had the story been bad then the game would have fallen apart because there was nothing else to hold it together but luckily it was good. In regards to choices when The Voice says that there are no good or bad choices, just consequences, they mean it. It made me think of the episode of The X-Files with a genie who when granting your wish would always find a way to warp what you asked for in a way you hadn’t expected. For instance a person asked for a boat and got it but then realized they would have to pay docking fees, maintenance fees and taxes on the boat that they hadn’t thought of and thus they couldn’t even use the boat that they had asked for. There are a lot of things like that associated with the choices you make in Little Misfortune so don’t try to over analyze it, the Voice will find a way to turn your choice bad regardless and I have to say that was a sadly realistic take on things from the developers. I was left with some questions such as just how Morgo was defeated; who was responsible for what happened to Misfortune; what role we the player played seeing as how the Voice talked to us as well but overall enjoyed myself. The middle part of the game had some stretches where not much happened in the story but it got past that.I played Little Misfortune on Linux. It never crashed on me and I didn’t notice any bugs. There was an option for V-Sync; PostFX and resolution. Alt-Tab didn’t work. You could manually save whenever you wanted and there were 3 save slots available. You could also just use the auto save feature if you wanted. You can’t pause or skip cut scenes. The game ran great with no drops in frame rate.Game Engine: UnityGraphics API: OpenGLSave System: Manual and AutoInput Used: Mouse and keyboardGame Version Played: 1.0Game Settings Used: V-Sync and PostFX on; 1920x1080GPU Usage: 0-57 %VRAM Usage: 685-1219 MBCPU Usage: 3-8 %RAM Usage: 2.2-2.7 GBFrame Rate: 132-144 FPSIf you are willing to accept narrative over game play then Little Misfortune has a lot to offer. A great story; voice acting and art style. It has it’s limitations and leaves some questions on the table but overall I came away impressed. It is equal parts cute; macabre; sad; and funny. There is a demo available for those who want to try it first. My Score: 8/10My System:AMD Ryzen 5 2600X | 16GB DDR4-3000 CL15 | MSI RX 580 8GB Gaming X | Mesa 21.1.2 | Samsung 970 Evo Plus 500GB | Manjaro 21.0.7 | Mate 1.24.1 | Kernel 5.12.9-1-MANJARO | AOC G2460P 1920*1080 @ 144hz

You play as Misfortune Ramirez Hernandez, a little girl with unfortunate luck. Following her new friend, Mr. Voice she sets out on an adventure to find eternal happiness, which she intends on giving to her mommy. For every action, there is a consequence and Misfortune is about to learn about this cosmic law. Mr. Voice sets Misfortune out on her first quest, to leave the house. She then makes her way through the streets of her home town Openfields, and then out into the wilderness of Sweden. You control Misfortune left or right, and make decisions for her along the way. Every choice you make has bearing on the overall outcome of the game. You sometimes control Misfortunes' hand in mini-games like at the beginning when you fix the vase you knock over. Lastly, and maybe most important is you bring glitter with you, so you can sparkle everything unhappy, and make it happy. The voicing is wonderful, and the commentary during the game ranges from cringy to just the right amount of snark, and you will find yourself smiling if you enjoy darker humor. Little Misfortune is an enjoyable game and will do great in the collections of those with slightly darker tastes.

One of the best and most unique games I've ever played! I don't know why critics scored it so low or maybe I know! Because we're in the timeOne of the best and most unique games I've ever played! I don't know why critics scored it so low or maybe I know! Because we're in the time where people enjoy useless games like Fortnite and can't seem to understand gems like Fran Bow or Little Misfortune! Period.

Right now, Little Misfortune is at the top of my personal list of bitter disappointments of 2019. I would have overlooked many of its flaws, if it were just a pilot episode in a series. Alas, this is a finished product.
