With a great amount of variety and choice, Last Dream: World Unknown is an RPG Maker game that deserves to be celebrated. The game is here to remind us that old school RPGs can still be fun, but it also brings back memories that we don't always want to admit — that some parts are best left in the past. Regardless, if you love the NES and early SNES days of turn-based combat, I highly recommend this game. Otherwise, the archaic dungeons, awkward world map navigation, and the basic plot might put you off.

The world is bigger, the NPCs have much more (funny!) personality, the mapping is very well done, and the battles are bigger/harder/more complex. A superb sequel to a terrific series!

I have no idea how long this game goes - the Steam page says 45 hours of main-story content and 25 hour of additional content... I know I won't finish it that fast. I chose to play on "Hard" which I find very rewarding. This is just an outstanding game with many fun surprises and amazing music. Why a 9 and not a 10? Certain puzzles are way too hard. I'm a smart person and I had to resort to reading the Strategy Guide (like, a thousand pages of Guide - seriously) to figure out some of the last puzzles. That is a relatively small complaint given how awesome this game is. An excellent buy. Get Last Dream, too!

Last Dream was fantastic because it recaptured all the best elements of classic RPGs. Last Dream: World Unknown takes everything one big step up and elevates a classic yet highly refined experience into a marvelous joy. About 40% into the game is a surprising new experience (I won't spoil it here) that isn't even hinted at on the Steam advertisements or elsewhere. It's odd to bury such quality deep into the game, but I think that reveals something of the mind of the developers. They apparently want to delight Players. They did for me and if you enjoy classic-era (~SNES/N64 games), then I really think you will love Last Dream: World Unknown.
