Summary

Interplanetary is a turn-based strategy artillery game based on a hard scifi setting. It offers players an interplanetary battlefield where they can develop their home planets and use massive artilleries to wage war.

It's an arms race of interplanetary scale, with each planet developing increasingly powerful railguns, missiles and even beam weapons. Sometimes, the greatest foe is the unpredictable planetary system with its treacherous gravity wells. Mind your surroundings, use them to your advantage and blast your enemies back to the stone age.

There are some good ideas at the core of Interplanetary, and you're initial time with the game will be enjoyable. However, the weapons phase of the game is a poorly designed exercise in frustration that will have you soon giving up on the game.

Interplanetary is a game with some great ideas and it does manage to create a central problem that will be very hard for gamers to solve perfectly.

Rocket science, orbital trajectories, and gravity wells are a terrible milieu for guesswork. It’s like a bunch of kids on a merry-go-round hucking rocks at each other, and then setting off fireworks at each other, and eventually shooting guns at each other. All the while the merry-go-round goes round. Did you miss?

If you have ever been at the least bit interested in projectile motion. This game's physics are highly dynamic, yet it simplifies the mathematics into an understandable visual representation as it incorporates planetary orbits (albeit circular) which you must fire your projectiles from and to, as well as the velocities of your projectiles and the gravity and its effect of each passing planet on your projectiles. **You have to do some forward thinking however as the planets are stationary when you are planning your bombardments but will continue in their orbits as the Action Phase commences adding many near hits and misses and moments of "Ooooo it is going to hit!!!!" followed by "WHAT THE @#$%?!? IT WAS SO CLOSE**2. If you enjoy sci-fi wars' of worlds. Colorfully and beautifully rendered solar systems that you get to destroy with projectiles, missiles, lasers (not on the heads of sea-bass), and even tamed asteroids...3. If you enjoy strategy games, whether playing solo versus the AI (settings range from newb to Einstein in their ability to predict the motions), or with and against other sentient beings you wish to annihilate. Even though the tech tree may not be as expansive as a Civilization game, Interplanetary allows for differing strategies from the start of each game. Do you hide and turtle up for the late game, or build quickly and start bombarding immediately, or somewhere in between? In a manner that is not overwhelming, there are resources to be managed and intelligence to be gathered and countered that all factor in to establishing your strategy for planetary destruction.4. If you remember the days when developers were of the PEOPLE and want to encourage future development of games uninhibited by corporate driven profit ideologies! Unlike most games today released for an exuberant price followed by further skin systems and nonsense that requires further pocket diving, Jolly Roger gives a game from the days of old. ***JOLLY ROGER PROVIDES AND ENCOURAGES (if you are comfortable in doing so) BASIC TOOLS FOR MODDING*** I have played the game less than a day but already looked at the potential for tweaking the game play and appreciate the ability to do so as it allows for future potential of varying game types and experiences.Overall, this game might not be completely polished in its UI or spell checking, but I do give it 5/5 for what Jolly Roger gives you in Interplanetary's bang for its buck. I highly recommend it to you and your friends to play together and believe you will find yourselves addicted once you get past the initial learning curve (which isn't that steep and can be passed after your first game).
