HyperParasite

Know somebody who might be like this game?

Summary

HyperParasite is a relentless rogue-lite SHMUP adventure. It's the 80's all over again. Only this time, the human race has more than an obnoxious pop culture to contend with. With World War III nearing its demise, Earth only just begins to catch its breath when it is threatened by yet another menace. Unlike the preposterous mullets of its inhabitants however, this one's invisible – a parasitic organism capable of making hosts of unsuspecting human beings, consuming what's left of their souls and wreaking unfathomable havoc. And it's spreading. With a vengeance. Martial laws have been declared to make way for a global hunt, battle-hardened law enforcers have made allies of the most degenerate of criminals, while the rest of the world is paralysed with paranoia; yet who can be trusted? Who can see it, let alone destroy it? That's for them to worry about. For you are the enemy. You are the organism with a mission. You are... HyperParasite.

Hyper Parasite is a very challenging rogue-like game that features a lot of cool ‘80s inspired characters and a cool mechanic that has you playing as a parasite taking over different host bodies to survive. The game might not look great but is still addictive to play.

HyperParasite is a good concept that is broken down by a low level of product testing. The inability to save the game as you progress through the stages and repeatedly return to the very beginning with the same boss irritates. Local co-op and minor problems with management spoil in theory an interesting project that you can try, but only if you are a fan of the genre, and all the other games have already finished.

Hyperparasite is a blast to play. The sheer variety of characters, each with their own style to learn, kept me coming back hour after hour. I liked the look, the endless references, and the multiple routes through each level. If only the developers hadn’t been so hellbent on making it into such an uphill slog I probably would have finished it! As it stands, it’s just too unfriendly to players and I can’t recommend it.

HyperParasite is a frenetic and colorful twin-stick shooter within the roguelike genre, and the shape-shifting mechanic it's a satisfying twist. However, it's a better shooter than it is a roguelike, with repetitive level design and a slow and punishing progression system.

Exterminate all humans in this funny, compulsive, frenetic rogue-lite classical shooter set in a crazier version of the Eighties.
