I’m pretty sure we’ve run out of superlatives when it comes to describing the GTA series and I’m absolutely sure of it when it comes to describing the fifth instalment - GTA V. Situated in the fictional state of San Andreas (aka Southern California), the open world format allows you to explore the city of Los Santos (aka Los Angeles) and its surrounding countryside, causing mayhem and destruction wherever you go.
Now GTA has never been for the faint hearted or the easily offended and GTA V is no exception. In fact when it comes to sex, drugs and violence it pushes the boundaries further than ever before (especially during one extremely intense torture sequence – just WOW!). Trust me the PC brigade are going to lose their minds over this!
GTA 5 actually reminds me of a famous quote by W.C. Fields – “I am free of all prejudice, I hate everyone equally.” That is certainly the case when it comes to who gets targeted by GTA 5’s satirical storyline. It literally takes a swipe at EVERY type of modern day American, including ironically, gamers – fantastic!
The story follows three main characters which really improves the narrative of previous GTAs. Switching between the characters you take control of either Michael (a retired conman in his 40s), Franklin (a gangbanger that hates the gangbanger stereotype) or Trevor (a guy who’s just bat sh*t crazy). The visuals are stunning and the missions are more intricate and cleverly thought out than ever before with the big heists the climactic main events. So basically, what I’m trying to say is (if you haven’t already worked it out), that GTA V is really really really good!
