However, visits to the planets are repetitive and without much variation, the stretches of the visited planets are very small and without diversity. In addition to the fact that no matter how many people there are in the crew and if they were alone on the ship, there is no interaction with the other crew members and they completely ignore signs of infestation until the attackers attack, forcing you to always take care of everything alone.A nice idea, but it needs to improve a lot in execution and AI of the other trupulantes.

I haven't experienced any crashes or game breaking bugs at all in about 100 hours of play.The game itself is like a series of mini games wrapped up in one fairly neat package. The main objective is to find a suitable planet to colonise, but in order to do so you need to achieve a set of conditions that are determined on a case by case basis for each potential genesis candidate you find.To meet the conditions you will have to gather resources which can be done in a few different ways which keep the game fresh and interesting.On default difficulty the game is quite easy but if you increase the difficulty settings a bit it becomes quite challenging.It's a flawed masterpiece. The various mini games are simple and repetitive but combined keep the game interesting. There really needs to be better documentation on some of the mechanics as it took a bit of learning through trial and error for me to figure out some parts of the game. I'd also like to be able to rename turbo lift floors and beaming stations for convenience. It's exclusively single player but it is really begging for multiplayer and if they ever release a version with online co-op or PVP then I'd sign up to that in a heartbeat.I'm really pleased I found this game. It's definitely got a lot of replayability and I can see myself coming back to it in the future despite having already completed the main cycle several times over.

I found this game by chance looking over the digital “Black Friday” sale and it’s description and subsequent trailer looked interesting. I’d say that the high 60’s Score that the game gets across the board on Metacritic are somewhat fair, but I think a lot of the bugs have been patched after it’s launch. This game is a pure 10 for me. I’m tired of every game being a “Souls” game. Especially the indie games. I’m tired of the “collect all this stuff” massive sandbox games. GAO has a super in-depth spaceship building mechanic that has you searching for materials on planets and in debris/wreckage. While I found this unique it’s so familiar and simple to pick up that it’s my new go to game to zone out and have a good adventure as a space captain. If you are into any of the Sim style games and “space crew management” with “invaders” and your own “clone factory” sounds fun then check this game out. Human models aside, the graphics are good overall. They even boarder on great when you are planet-side and the atmosphere of the game holds up if you are a Sci-Fi fan.

First thought as rogue-like, Genesis: Alpha One brings a lot of interesting management elements. Thus mixing design, action / FPS and strategy in the way to reach its goal (to find a new planet and to colonize it), it proposes a large number of different directions and a beautiful variety of situations. Beginners in rogue-likes may be a little bit lost because of the not-so-clear indications on how to proceed, but if they manage to go beyond frustration and a technical level below average, Genesis : Alpha One might deliver some good experiences.

The game quickly loses steam, even though at first it seems fun, and its retro-futuristic design is charming throwback to fan-favorite movies of the 70s and 80s. Unfortunately, the monotony inevitably leads to boredom as the game has nothing to challenge you with except to repeat the same few actions over and over.

Everything in Genesis Alpha One ultimately boils down to being over-ambitious. I appreciate the attempt and see something great beneath the surface somewhere, but in its current state it’s just too rough to recommend. With more assets, more things to do, and shortening the grind of finding resources and blueprints, it might be worth building a spaceship and breeding a clone army. For now, it looks like humanity’s mission to repopulate is a failure.

Genesis Alpha One is a game that combines a number of different and in some ways unique genre’s together and whilst some games may have failed by doing this Genesis Alpha One shines bright because of this. The main reason why it shines bright is because each genre present feels equally important and when you combine that with the decent amount of content available to you you’ll find this to be a game that you return back to time and time again. For reasons I do not understand those jobs were unable to be automated by a space faring species. Your clones must manually scan planets, manually take care of plants etc... This would not be a problem if you had enough clones to go around. But you do not. And you must manage every aspect of their activity constantly and only from very specific rooms. For example if you finished collecting the materials around the ship and no longer need clones in the beam room you must go to the refinery and use the console there to assign them to work at refining things. They do not go about doing needed tasks like in most of this games (Rimworld for example).Then there is the part where you are descending onto planets to gather resources, plants, biomass and intel for new things to build. However this whole business gets old really fast. Remember how a species able of intergalactic travel does not have a smart enough AI to manage plant cultivation... well they can't automate mining either. So you must click hold some ray to a rock to collect stuff from it. Time and time again. While random aliens spam around to attack you. The whole area is the size of a sports field. It has hardly any detail. Some rock formations here, some grass there... The very messy graphics do not help much either as the area around is even uglier.Maybe it is because I played through SOMA a few days ago, but I can not help feeling a bit of unease when playing the game. You are a clone, on a ship inhabited by other clones. Nothing wrong with that but the said clones have 0 life. I do not much care about voice acting but I wish i could at least work on their appearance to at least simulate some personality.The human clones look like cheap plastic mannequins. The alien ones make no sense. If the purpose of Genesis was to expand humanity in the universe how does cloning aliens achieve the purpose!? The game says that alien DNA is used to enhance the human one. But the product is described as being of different race and appears to be as far away from humans as you could get.You get no overall information regarding your ship. No information regarding your crew. The ship looks bad. The alien worlds are just open boring space. Your crew is made of nothing but mindless clones. The enemies run towards you in a straight line. 0 inteligence. 0 life.

By trying to be all things to all people Genesis Alpha One loses any sense of identity. There is some really interesting ideas at work, and cool aesthetic in one portion of the game, but other areas feel underdeveloped.

Genesis Alpha One is a good combination of strategy, action, Tower defense and roguelike in a single experience. Although it is not as balanced as we would like, its proposal is fine.

Genesis Alpha One is a tremendous roguelike that rarely holds back. Its many systems are well balanced, its plethora of unique objectives remain fresh, and its random generation solidifies its already impressive variation. There’s room for minor improvements, and there’s some slight visual blemishes across the entire board, but this takes little away from the constant uncertainty that the game relays at a tense and frequent rate.

Losing progress in a roguelike is meant to entice you to hop back in with new accessories to change your next run, but Genesis Alpha One doesn't have the mechanics in place to make these variations interesting enough to experiment with.

The game works within its microverse but it has a tendency to get locked up in its gameplay loop. When nothing is happening apart from routinely harvesting ore, it takes persistence to keep the expedition going on. I can imagine a real space travel Genesis Alpha One portrays in its video game terms being rather uneventful. Heck, you wouldn’t even want anything unexpected happening but being safe and sound even at the risk of getting bored. So, as odd as it may sound, uneventfulness is the game’s biggest virtue. Otherwise, you’d be desperately running and gunning around corridors until you run out of ammunition and crew members and start your trek all over again.

Genesis Alpha One, once it grabs you, is a hard one to put down. Dripping in atmosphere, exploring and building your own space-ship and then visiting strange new planets has all the wonder you could hope for. The added tension of wondering if your crew has been infected by some sort of alien parasite – and then watching as your ship slowly becomes a scene from sci-fi horror film, is exhilarating.
