Eleven child survivors band together after the attack and board a gigantic tank known as Taranis - a relic of an ancient but technologically-advanced civilization - in order to travel across the dangerous landscape and rescue their families who were taken prisoner. The Taranis houses a super weapon called the Soul Cannon which is capable of immense destruction at the cost of a crew member's life, with the main characters having to choose when and whom to sacrifice in order for the group to reach their destination.

Like Darkest Dungeon and the like, you have to balance long-term upgrades, short-term benefits, and character morale to progress. Makes victories all the more satisfying when things work out. Also, awesome world-building! Plays like an excellent resource management game and enchanting visual novel together in one. 10/10 must buy!

Fuga: Melodies of Steel is a balanced cross between an RPG and a strategy game. The tale about a group of kids who acquire a weapon capable of changing the course of war is spun with sensitivity, imagination and charm. It’s a unique experience that takes you back to the era of the best handheld turn-based RPGs.

In a medium that’s so happy to turn war into a frivolous entertainment, it’s rare to see a game actually engage with the realities of war in any meaningful way. You might not expect it from the cute character designs, but that’s exactly what Fuga: Melodies of Steel does, and with remarkable success: weave a harrowing but ultimately hopeful story about the destruction that war leaves in its wake and the desperate lengths people will go to to save those they care about.

Fuga: Memories of Steel is a turn-based strategy game that is unlike any other one I have played. The story is incredibly deep and a lot more serious than you would expect a game with cats and dogs to be. Definitely worth checking out if you like RTS games mixed with RPG elements.

Overall, Fuga: Melodies of Steel is a charming, beautiful, and challenging game that shows just how determined a child can be in the face of seemingly impossible odds. The love these children have for their parents is truly unstoppable.
