Game Summary

The United Kingdom might not always conjure up images of wide open roads suitable for racing muscle cars. In a country that's well-known for narrow country lanes, jam-packed motorways, and traffic jams up and down the nation, fans of the racing genre might not find much appeal in trying to race on British roads. However, Forza Horizon 4 takes to some of the UK's most ideal scenes to create a racing game that goes completely against what anyone might expect of the little island.

Forza Horizon 4 is set in some of the most picturesque locations in the United Kingdom. These include the Cotswolds, Lake District, the Scottish Highlands, and the English moorlands. Here, players aren't going to run into any issues trying to overtake one another because there's no urban sprawl to contend with. Instead they're going to be zipping around stunning scenery that showcases some of the best Britain has to offer.

The Forza series has always been known for its graphics and Horizon 4 is no exception to this. It is based on 4K technologies, so will make full use of a compatible display to show one of the most visually stunning racing experiences that a fan of the genre can enjoy. What's more is that its graphics will go through the four seasons just as drivers would expect in person. Snowy Scottish Highlands are in full glistening wintry details and touristy cottage districts are at their beauty-peak in the summertime. It's certainly something that should be experienced for its simulation aspects rather than exclusively treated as a racing game. Freely touring some of the best locations at the best times of year will certainly provide eye candy and visual treats to remember.

Like other games in the series, Horizon 4 is based on in-game currencies that allow drivers to upgrade their vehicles and driver characteristics. These are awarded by completing races, performing tricks, and unlocking predefined achievements in the game. Players will need to choose how they spend their money wisely as there are over 40 different vehicles in the game and each vehicle provides a slightly different driving experience, which is visually and technically noticeable when racing through the British scenes. A lowriding muscle car will perform far differently than a Range Rover, but an all-terrain vehicle will be far more appropriate for tackling dirt tracks than concrete roads. It's up to players to understand the mechanics of their vehicles and make informed choices.

Forza Horizon 4 is another excellent title in the series and already has been the recipient of several awards including both Game Critics Awards and Gamecom Awards' Best Racing Game of 2018. It was also nominated for the highly prestigious Ultimate Game of the Year in the Golden Joystick Awards. Racing fans are certainly onto a winner with this one and won't falter adding it to their personal library right now.
