You’ll probably be pleasantly surprised by the majority of Dustoff Heli Rescue 2. 35 missions may not seem like a lot, but should you wish to grab all the available stars and dog tags, then you’ll need to invest a good few hours of gametime into what it brings.

Dustoff Heli Rescue 2 is a fun arcade experience that packs a great deal of replay value. With some questionable and slightly frustrating design choices put to the side, the game delivers on its promise to keep you engaged and entertained from beginning to end.

Thankfully Dustoff Heli Rescue 2 is as close to the original Choplifter as you can get, and whilst it suffers with a few problems I still ended up having a great time with the game. There are a number of missions for you to tackle in the game and they’ve done a brilliant job of making each mission feel considerably different and in a way very exciting. I will say though that some levels can become very difficult and dealing with a number of hazards can be a frustrating affair at times. Thankfully the controls hold up really well and don’t cause any more frustration, so if you make a mistake it’s down to you and not the controls. In order to play new levels you will have to unlock a number of stars and getting these stars can be a testing affair. They do however keep the grind interesting by throwing in a number of unlockables for you to sink your teeth into and this gives the game quite a lot of replay value. Most of the unlockables in the game are pretty decent, but I was a little disappointed with the weapons and the main reason for that is because every weapon pretty much felt and reacted in the same way. The presentation side of the game is something that I didn’t expect to enjoy as much as I did. Visually the game has a Minecraft feel to it and I think this particular style works very well for the game. The sound design also delivers in a number of areas and the different sounds definitely add a touch of immersion to the game. At the end of the day Dustoff Heli Rescue 2 is a simple game to get to grips with and this simplicity makes the game accessible to a number of different gamers. They do a very good job of easing you in and the tutorials leave no stone unturned, so you go into the game with a lot of confidence. There are a few niggling problems here and there but the game delivers a lot of nostalgia so I kinda forgot about them and in the end it does more than enough to get a thumbs up from me.
