In order for an RPG to be an enjoyable experience the game has to be interesting and rewarding because otherwise you will lose interest quiteIn order for an RPG to be an enjoyable experience the game has to be interesting and rewarding because otherwise you will lose interest quite quickly with the game, and thankfully on the whole Dungeon Rushers a new tactical RPG on the Xbox One gets this right most of the time. It does however have a few niggling problems included but the main thing is that it gets more things right than it gets wrong. One of the most important aspects in a game like this is its combat and this is an aspect that Dungeon Rushers has done really well. The combat has a good amount of depth to it and the variety the enemies have keeps things fresh and interesting for a little bit longer. This is important because the game can become repetetive after a while because it doesn’t have lots of variety present in its generous content package. Even though it does get repetetive I still found myself returning to the game though because when the different mechanics combine together you do ending up having quite a bit of fun. Another thing they’ve done very well is that they haven’t made the different mechanics complicated so knowing what to do is easy to grasp. By implementing this easy to pick up and play style it means that everybody can enjoy this game and the frustration levels never get too high. You will however get stuck every now and then and the difficulty curve can be a problem at times, but there is a generous amount of upgrades to help you along the way. The only problem I found with these upgrades though is that the best ones were hard to get and I didn’t come across them many times during my playthrough, which is a shame. I was however able to easily look past this and something that played a big part in making me look past this was the game’s story. I must admit that I wasn’t expecting much from the story so as you can imagine I was pleasantly surprised because what you get is a decent and funny tale that in a way makes the gameplay even more of an enjoyable experience. The presentation side of the game also enhances the gameplay somewhat as well. Visually the game has a nice look to it and the accompanying sound design is simple but effective at the same time, which is great. At the end of the day fans of tactical RPG’s will enjoy what Dungeon Rushers has to offer and on the whole it’s a pretty decent addition to the genre. It may not the best game I’ve played in this particular genre and it does suffer with a few technichal issues but in the end it does more than enough to get a recommendation from me.

If you are looking for a true dungeon experience that offers significant challenge and great depth or even just a classic style game to enjoy what made these style of games great in the first place, then this is definitely not it. All technical difficulties aside, this should be far more than what it is for what it claims to be.

For the most part, I really did enjoy my time in Dungeon Rushers. The game is funny, has solid combat, a crafting system, and fully customizable skill tree for the whole party. If you’re looking for something you can just jump in and out of, it’s certainly not a bad game and it’s at its best in bite sized gaming.

Dungeon Rushers doesn’t do much to break the mold, but it certainly does enough to justify its generous price tag and a recommendation. Though with that said, if it’s gameplay depth that you seek, look elsewhere. The game does indeed become repetitive before its conclusion and there’s a few technical issues within, however, if you can overlook that, there’s heaps of challenging and endearing content to get through.

Dungeon Rushers may evoke fond memories of the Hero Quest board game but it doesn’t manage to be anywhere near as involving. Still when things are going right it’s a hugely addictive game, with simple gameplay based around risk and reward and some tremendously entertaining dialogue. Nevertheless the story is non-existent, the gameplay basic and repetitious, and nearly every stage you’ll be forced to replay old dungeons to grind your characters up a level. The level editor is the surprising highlight, and we actually found it more fun to make dungeons than play them.
