Each level has a quality level-design and a unique theme, the gameplay is excellent, the music is excellent (thanks, Favid Wise), and the difficulty is present and well balanced. Even the water levels aren't annoying. Admittedly, some buddies are still missing, but the game stands on its own.

This game has some tough checkpoints like Donkey Kong Country Returns, but the gameplay is polished and the courses are amazingly detailed. I also loved the two player mode in this game more with Funky Kong, where you can now hover without needing Diddy on your back. Possibly one of the best 2D platformers ever made.

Probably the best (not favourite, but best) 2d platformer I've played, just ahead of it's predecessor in Donkey Kong: Country Returns. That being said, I can't give this game a 9 because the controls are pretty annoying, and it's not the games fault! The game is only available on switch (obviously, it's Nintendo) so you should expect the controls to be pretty bad. DK and the pals themselves move smoothly, especially in water which was a nice surprise, but the actual buttons I'm not a fan of. I think this game would work better the way PS4 and XBOX games work, each button has an individual function instead of 2 different buttons both doing 5 things at once...

Perhaps it's the irritating and repetitive sounds, the terrible soundtrack, clumsy controls, floaty physics, or the insulting price tag. Dust off your Super Nintendo and original Donkey Kong Country cartridges of you want a *good* game. If you want to get rid of hard earned money and play an imitation of what was once a good series then this is for you.

I grew up playing the first Donkey Kong Country on the SNES, so I might be a bit biased because of all the nostalgia attacks. I also lovedI grew up playing the first Donkey Kong Country on the SNES, so I might be a bit biased because of all the nostalgia attacks. I also loved Donkey Kong Country Returns for the original Wii, but I love Tropical Freeze maybe a bit more than that one. If you're a completionist and want to find every secret like I do than this game will challenge you. I've only played up until world 3 and both bossfights I had were really challenging (but not frustrating at all) If I have to nitpick I would say that I would've loved a sprint button since the originals on SNES had them if I'm not mistaken. Sometimes I try to make a jump but because DK feels so heavy to control if you don't roll before a jump or walk a little bit before your jump, you'll fall straight to your death. All in all a beautiful game that captures the classic games to a T
