The blocks move together, so anything one of them does, the other does as well. Your goal is to press a bunch of buttons, but the catch is that you can only press the buttons in pairs, simultaneously, one with each block. Once you have triggered all of the buttons, a pair of exits appear that you must enter simultaneously. Thus, you must manipulate the blocks such that you can do this. The game has relatively few mechanics, but it makes solid use of them. First off, when the two blocks collide, if there’s only a thin surface between them, momentum will be exchanged between them. This means that they will oscillate back and forth, or, if you space it correctly, they will both bounce up and down at the same time. While the blocks move together, it is possible to break their parity by moving one against some surface that they cannot move through while the other has no such barrier. This causes the two to be offset from one another, which allows you to solve many puzzles – but it has the catch that, due to their misalignment, it is no longer possible to exchange momentum between them without fixing their offset. In addition, there’s a small number of other mechanics – platforms that you can manually raise/lower and move left/right, walls that become solid after going through them, walls that can only be travelled through in one direction, walls that disappear a second or so after touching them, as well as abilities that can be triggered to reverse gravity, cause the two blocks’ movement to be mirrored in opposite directions from one another, and blocks that shift the entire level 90 degrees. At first, these mechanics are added one at a time, but by the end of the game, they are being frequently combined in levels, making for clever new puzzles. The game is pretty straightforward, but the levels can be quite difficult in some cases; often, you need to make some essential insight in order to solve the levels, and typically, this can be worked out logically. Some of the levels can be solved in multiple different ways, and there’s even secret bonus levels accessible only with an additional difficult challenge on one of the levels out of every set of 10.The game’s difficulty felt appropriate; each set of levels ramped up in difficulty, and the level sets ramped up in difficulty over the course of the game. There’s 120 levels in this game, and it will probably take you about 18 hours to complete. All in all, it felt rather decent to play. However, like a lot of games like this, it is hard to really be wowed by it; the mechanics are simple and fun enough, but the game will probably enter my memory as yet another puzzle game that I barely remember playing. That isn’t necessarily an indictment of it, though; it was fun enough. But it isn’t the sort of thing that reaches anywhere near the heady reaches of games like Portal or The Talos Principle; it is a fairly simple indie game with no plot and simple graphics, intended to accomplish exactly what it set out to do and nothing else.

Beyond the reset confusion, it’s hard to find any flaws in this game. The puzzle concept is a lot of fun, the visuals are just about perfect for a retro styled game, the 8-bit synth audio experience is on point, and it manages to stump you without overtly frustrating you – a crowning achievement among puzzle games. Give Deleveled a go, I highly doubt you’ll regret it.

Although I enjoyed my time with Deleveled, it definitely has its frustrating moments. However, I still recommend it to 2D puzzle fans.

The game is careful about guiding the player through new gameplay concepts without ever burdening them with text! before rigorously challenging their understanding of what they've been taught, and the stages rather quickly turn mind-bending as a result. I've found that solving each level is uniformly rewarding; rather than being the exercise in frustration that I've experienced with other puzzle games. There are no cheap tricks: what you see on screen is what you have to work with, but that commitment to simplicity belies a rather significant variety in level design; especially at the price point it's being sold out. Those puzzle genre fans will find a good time waiting for them in Deleveled. The soundtracks do fine but aren't super catchy or award winning, but there are some very solid tunes with enough variety to keep it from ever bcoming stale. The visuals are simple but get the job done as there's enough subtle flair that makes the game quite beautiful. Especially with some of the more intricate background designs. Ultimately, I think the simplicity appropriately emphasizes what the focus of this game is: you work against the level progression, and the lack of visual distraction is actually quite welcome as the puzzles get more challenging, and more rewarding to solve along your journey. Hard to be disappointed in this fun game at a low price of admission on your Xbox One.

It's actually a super original concept that bringsDeleveled isn't just one of those basic puzzlers involving squares, and strange patterns. It's actually a super original concept that brings something really fresh to the puzzling genre. The idea is really simplistic. To a point where it is kind of hard to write a super extended review about it. It is basically Get to switches or buttons what ever you want to call them with the top and bottom blocks. It is really easy to explain , but not as easy to master. Some of the layouts can really confuse you, and test your mental capacity. The main reason there is no jump button. The blocks move based on momentum. You really only use the left stick to move them across the platforms. The jumping is done by the blocks crashing against the floors below them. If the blocks go off that floor, and hit each other it's instant failure. If the blocks don't line up, and have a large bounce between them more than likely it's a fail as well. There are some puzzles where jumping isn't a key factor so it's able to still win, but for the most part you will need to keep the momentum going. There are 10 different worlds adding up to a whopping 120 levels. So at 7.99 Deleveled is going to keep you entertained for some time. You would think that it would start to feel repetitive, but each world introduces a new mechanic that keeps it fresh. You may start to feel you've got the hang of it, and have it mastered and then they throw a new element at you. They even throw some secrets, challenges, and bonus material at you as well. Even when you do finish it , and start to know your way around it you will want to complete the challenges and try to beat each level without death. I could see speed runners wanting to do this as well, as race for times on it. It really feels like one of those games that people will make super competitive, and battle awhile for times. I can see the world record speed and no death videos popping up on Youtube already. That is exciting to me when a game knows how to keep the player coming back even after they have finished it. That is a special development team, and a special game in my opinion.I couldn't finish this review without covering the sights and sounds of the title. Yes it isn't much to look at. It looks quite simplistic, but don't let that fool you. Anyone one remember "Thomas was Alone"? It was a game about just blocks that was really quite special. "Deleveled" is quite special as well. I'm not saying it is on level with "Thomas was Alone" that was a really special game to me, and maybe one of my top 100 games of all times. It was such a heart warming story, with top notch narration. Maybe some the best voice acting in a game ever. Deleveled might be one of the best puzzlers ever though. It is really special as in it delivers a really original concept. I've never played another puzzler like it, and if you know of any like it let me know. It was super unique to me. You aren't going to care at all what it looks like when you start trying to solve its challenging puzzles. That alone won't keep you entertained though, the music is going to grab you as well. It is super addictive, and fun. I was hooked on hearing the next song so many times that it kept me going. I can't put into words just how fun the soundtrack for this game is. As soon as it starts you will notice that, and to the very end you will be humming and nodding your head along.
