Great game, good story, meh graphics and controls but that's to be expected with a game this old. Recommended, but it's challenging.

Intro:* This review is based on the updates of the game featured in the Remastered version (2018)* If it wasn’t obvious, this reviewIntro:* This review is based on the updates of the game featured in the Remastered version (2018)* If it wasn’t obvious, this review doesn’t take into consideration the impact that the game had on the industry or the internet in generalPro:+ The first half of the game is near perfection+ Huge amount of possible and viable builds+ Starting class is just a “starting point” and it doesn’t preclude anything in the rest of the game+ Absolutely amazing level design and areas interconnection in the first half+ Various weapons’ moveset+ Good game balance+ Really good lore+ Good division on the amount of mandatory and optional areas and bosses+ Extremely good cohesion between gameplay and narrative+ Beating adversities awards the player with souls, shortcuts or good equipment+ Incredibly balanced combat system+ Most of enemies’ moveset is clear and they have both the possibility to be learned by heart and/or to react by instinct+ The game can be faced through many possible paths+ It is possible to beat every boss and area both by pure skill (even at level 1) and by farming becoming over-leveled+ Good world and environmental design+ The game allows for a way to recuperate lost key items due to bugs and also to return to a safe place (in case of bugged geodatas) by using an item or by exiting and re-entering the game+ Visual clues for every trap+ Possibility to cooperate in order to face areas and bosses with other players or, if played offline, NPCs+ Features in-game the possibility to play offline+ Finishing NPCs quests in different ways leads to different rewards+ Great attention to detailsCons:- One of the worst tutorials I’ve ever seen in modern games, with many important information completely missing- Most of the second half of the game is extremely bad in terms of level design (with basically no interconnection between areas), enemies and bosses- The lack of a weapon evolution tree makes pretty complex to know what you need to obtain a certain power up of a weapon- Ordering in menus is by category and alphabetically, but based on japanese names, thus not making any sense in other languages- No possibility to pause the game even when playing offline- No possibility to save and reload as you want- The game doesn’t give clear path directions to new players- Inconsistencies in what a button does in the different menus- Sometimes, hidden affordance- Some actions don’t have a good feedback (like the crow’s nest)- Some geodatas really suck (I’m looking at you, Great Hollow)- Understanding how to enter the DLC without a guide is an extreme challenge on its own- NG+ starts automatically after defeating the final boss- Some characters’ quests have terrible triggers, which may lead to losing their entire quest- The effect of certain items is not disclosed anywhere, not even in their description- A few but annoying bugsMiscellanous:* If it’s your first Souls-like, it requires time to understand the mechanics and how to play well and proceed in the game, because even though it looks like any other action game, the truth is that it’s in a totally different category of its own.* No difficulty settings, but it’s mitigated by the possibility to make the game easier by farming/grinding or harder by playing with certain self–made challenges* If played on computer, there is the possibility to use mods to fix certain problems of the game and enhance the experience

I have beat Dark Souls so many times now, but it's a very good game. When I first got Dark Souls, I was amazed by how many things you couldI have beat Dark Souls so many times now, but it's a very good game. When I first got Dark Souls, I was amazed by how many things you could do, the places you could explore, the hoard of enemies you could slice through. Plus, Dark Souls isn't like some other games. When you play the game again, enemies get stronger, and even with my armor and weapons, it can be challenging at times. But when I defeat a boss, it's like I just got 10 achievements at the same time. I also find it interesting how the B button is select and the A button is close. In most games, it's the other way around. Good game though!
