But I certainly didn't expect it will turn out to be a weird, braintwisting and utterly unique masterpiece. Courtney Hopes performance als Jesse Faden (the main character) is spot on, perfect voice acting and I love Jesse as a character. The game has great story telling with humor and lots of suspense as well as masterclass world building (documents and audio recodings). Not to mention the amazing graphics and the very unique art style (reminds me of Stanley Kubrick movies with all that geometry, lighting contrasts and 60/70s interor and technology). There is clever level design, detailed decoration and realistic enviroment. The fighting system is really cool, the combination of superhuman powers and shooting with different kind of weapons mix quite fine and lead to exciting fast-paced-battles. The sourroundings react to your actions really nicely (things break, explode etc.). Overally Control has a really well made atmosphere with build up suspense, psychological horror elements and firghtening enivorments. But it manages to never get too scary, just the right amount. I really liked the insane attention to details (adding so much additional stuff like very long handwritten texts or forever ongoing voicelines add to the world immersive feeling). The ashtray maze level on its own is a gaming masterpiece, one of the best video game missions ever. The length of the game is just right, for people who really liked it Control even offers two quite good DLCs. In addition to that I have to mention the flawless programming: there is an impressive high quality of effects and physical behaviour of objects, I never encountered bugs or graphical errors. The sheer amount of documents, audio recordings etc. especially the ones that are linked together shows me Remedy really put a lot of effort and love into this game. What I have to criticize is that raytracing looks stunning on the PS5 but feels weird and too irritating since it produces a stutter and blurring when moving the camera. Another minor problem is that enemies are too repetative and mostly the same (except the mold zombies which I think feels like a nice hommage to TLOU). Fighting parts always feel the same wave style, there are no tactical aproaches and only rarely different situations - I wish for the sequel to improve in this aspect. Another improvement for a sequel could be to move the weapon form choosing to the directional buttons of the controller, this would make it possible to choose from more different weapon forms fluently. You find weapon mods and personal mods too often, they really stuff in the inventory and are mostly useless since most are weaker than the ones you already have. The translation of the documents or subtitles into german is sometimes quite poorly, I started with english audio and german texts but soon switched to both english since a lot of the humor or cleverness of the texts is lost in grammatical errors or obvious google translator mistakes. One thing that set me off was that you sometimes instant die when falling off a cliff, this ruines the game flow. Personally I think the ending felt too rushed, it would be better to leave the player a break before the final fight - I was confused and surprised to find myself in the final battle all of the sudden. Overall control is a really outstanding game. It shines with its creativity and innovative ideas. The only big flaws for me are that I personally can't use the raytracing mode because it makes me motion sick and that the enemies get too repetative after some time. Still its very uniqueness and amazing setting, story and world design make it in my opinion a 10/10 masterpiece.

You're pushed to change different weapons and powers during each combat to face different types of foes. You also need to move, jump, fly and dash really quick to dodge the countless projectiles on the screen. The amount of destruction in every combat is such that when you end with the last enemy and you realize that every single part of the scenario is fully broken by the fight you can just laugh and say: boy that escalated quickly! It reminds me a lot to a Matrix shooting scene. The story and main character are great, specially her amazing thoughts. The side lore with the numerous possessed items is quite fun.The downside is the optimization of the game. One of the worse I ever seen. The graphics are always blurry, the voice is completely desynched. Wall signs, texts, character faces are super blurred most of the time. There are many crashes when the screen is full to moving objects. There's even a boss spawning too much objects that you need to change a lot the game and Windows configuration if you want to end it without crashing. My computer is quite new and executing more demanding games without problems. So I checked and the internet forums are full of people with the same problem, then: super bad optimization. The game difficulty in my opinion is not well balanced. There are super simple fights and others with hundreds of hazards that can one shot you.For example the last fight is easier than the average while other random combats throw you several waves of exploding things that you cannot avoid in a narrow path.

Impressive visual, tight controls and a original story will keep you entertained for many hours. The side quests are not as interesting as the main story, sometimes feeling like a waste of your time and with lack of creativity. The main story is short but interesting and the battle variety keeps the fights fresh. The Ray tracing technology feels interesting but not as amazing as I expected. A great game that deserves a shot if you find it on sale.

Well, before re-selling a game hiding behind "next gen" pretexts, you'd better repair the said game before.Otherwise, this is by far the best work of Remedy. The X-files ambiance is neat, the sound work is nice, graphics are good too, especially the light work which is clearly great. The fights are quite like Quantum Break with improvements, more versatile powers and smoothness to manage them. The thing could globally have been even greater with better lypsinc (really weird at times) and better voice acting overall.

Control's combat offers more possibilities than previous Remedy games, especially Alan Wake. However, Control doesn't stand up to Alan WakeControl's combat offers more possibilities than previous Remedy games, especially Alan Wake. However, Control doesn't stand up to Alan Wake with its storytelling. The story is harder to grasp than Kojima's games are. That happens because the game does not start from the beginning and the lore is being told by hundreds of dull collectable logs. The world is very destructible which leads to a massive amount of particles which lead to frames dropping below 10 fps on base PS4. This is one the worst performances I've ever seen.Apart from the combat improvement which is a welcome innovation, Control fails to surpass Alan Wake in any other aspects. Absent characters, short play time. Control tries so hard to connect with Alan Wake, it almost feels like Remedy tries to "fan-trap" fans to buy Control with its DLCs.Control is apparently Remedy's best selling game since Max Payne, yet they gave this game for free three times just this year. Something I can't understand.
